Absorber Replacement Bilstein B4

Just changed my absorbers today at Chu Seng Auto Repairs Pg.

My car is a E90 2006 325i with 89700km.

Total cost:-

(i) Absorbers- Bilstein B4 ( from Munich Auto SegambutMrSiew)

(F) RM350 x 2 = RM700
(R) RM270 x 2 = RM540

Total = RM1240

(ii) Parts OE from Auto Bavaria Pg

Front
31 33 1 094 749 - Protection Tube RM20.83 x 2 = RM41.66

Rear
33 53 6 767 334 - Rubber Buffer RM69.58 x 2 = RM139.16
33 50 6 771 738 - Guide Support/ Strut Support RM45.94 x 2 = RM91.88
33 50 6 771 737 - Strut Support RM57.44 x 2 = RM114.88

(iii) Parts OEM from ChuSeng

Front
31 30 6 775 098 - Absorber Mounting (CPB brand) RM98 x 2 = RM196
31 33 6 771 352 – Damper ( Vaico) RM68 x 2 = RM136

Total = RM332.00

( I purchased Absorber Mounting and Damper from Chu Seng as OE prices were too high ie RM535 pp and RM101 pprespectively)

(iv) Labour @ Chu Seng RM300 (inclusive service tax)

(v) Alignment RM50

Total Cost Summary

Absorbers RM1240
Parts RM720
Labour RM300
Alignment RM50

Total RM2310

AB quoted me a total of RM7323

Parts RM6023
(OE Absorbers RM1329(F) + RM906(R) x 2 = RM4474 + Other OE Parts = RM1549)

Labour RM1300

( Lee Motors/Tian Siang/Wearnes gave me almost similar quotes)

My cost was 1/3 of the official dealer price.

Normally it would be ½ but in this case the official dealer pricing was quite high for absorbers, absorber mounting (F) and labour which totaled RM6844 by itself.

I must say I am very happy with my new absorbers and am very satisfied with the research and enquiries that went in before the purchase. It was quite a learning experience.

Hope u find this info helpful.

Thks. Herbert. I'll keep that in mind during my next ATF change. I am a bit concerned about my gearbox. Where's the best place to do a rebuild in Klang Valley. With all the software nonsense, I'm am a bit concerned whether the guys in Pg are equipped to handle it. Gearbox can go any time and we should be prepared. My E36 325i lasted until about 150k km b4 giving way. Of course it only costed me RM4k+. My E90 has done abt 90k km. I'd be happy if survives to 150k km too. Anything after that would be a bonus to me. Based on my driving/use, 60k km would take me another 4 yrs @ 15k km per year. Btw how much would a E90 gearbox rebuild cost?

Done my mechatronic rebuild for my ZF6 HP19 at Mscope Batu Caves. Cost me nearly 5k. No experience with the gearbox but it should be in that region too.

Don't think any workshop including MScope has the capabilities to rebuild the ZF6HP19's mechatronics though they are the only one who has the ZF equipment to diagnose/code ZF auto transmission. Most probably they replaced your mechatronics with a reconditioned one.

They told me the recondition unit will have the communication issues with your EMS and CAN BUS as the system will not recognize. What they did is just changing all 7 solenoids in mechatronic module.

That's what I thought i.e. they replaced the 7 solenoids at the mechatronics module . I did that for my e60 and bought the new set of solenoids from Bomin Auto for RM1,500.

My car is a 2006 car registered in 2007 and has currently done about 93450km.

I have travelled 10k km over the past 1 year since getting the car.

I must say I've enjoyed the car.

Hopefully, I continue to enjoy my drive next year.

This year I had 4 big ticket expenses ie tyres, gearbox oil, absorbers and air con which totaled RM9960 or 78% of my expenses.

I got the car for RM100k and had budget RM10k for repairs, so the expenses incurred is acceptable.

I did alingment and balancing at Neuton for RM64 today.

The boy did a good job. Car feels better. Front tyre wearing faster than rear.

I think some people go thru 2 sets of front tyres for every rear set?

Also discovered one of the screw/tyre nuts missing. Got to get replacement. Any idea how much AB charges for 1 tyre rim nut?
