Lost control on the raining day!

I was not only controlling my machine, I was in control.

Thats the moral of this story....learn and push your ride (whatever you ride) to match and NOT exceed your own experience and ability but before that, understand Newton's Laws on Motion and Gravity, under and oversteer, road conditions, car maintenance, tyre condition etc etc etc.......

Thank you.

well said from the master himself.....

Okow, i bet u turn your steering damper FULL ON for this one...yes, i heard abt this bike's reputation too....;)

Just curious: would DSC prevent or quell aquaplanning?

No.

Story time:
I was doing warp speed in the dry when i hit a wall of heavy rain on a run down south one afternoon. Ok, so its wet and i lift a little and continued on with lights and wipers on. 5-10 minutes into the storm and my DSC starts flashing wildly. I dont feel much else except i already knew i was aquaplaning at that speed. Car was not sliding or fishtailing. It was amazingly straight and true. So i slowed further until the DSC stops the dance. Speedo indicated 140km/h. Ok, this is insane. So i got back to reality and plodded with more confidence at 110km/h.

praise the Lord that everyone who met with an accident is safe and talking about it now....

i met with one 3 weeks back as well... took a corner to fast, stepped on the pedal and the next thing i know i was already driftin and next thing i know i am parked on the middle divider... safed many mishaps like the street lamp was removed from a previous accident, that particular 30 m did not have large trees in the middle of the divider, no much traffic, did not skid over to the opposite direction.

bend my rims, tore some bushes, broke my fan, punctured my radiator and caused an hefty bill... among all thank God nothin happened to me and my fiancee...

i was using a 16'' with 205 55 Falken Azenis ST115 used up 60%. during my drives in the highways, i used to push the car on the corners... now since am shaken... will take a while... upgrade rims and tyres to 18" 225 40 Dunlop DZ101. feels much better on the corners and also stand still pick ups.

cheers...

Oh yeah, my DSC is now on the blink. I'm rediscovering the pleasures of a RWD car again.

Watch it... wider tyres may be good when it is dry but when it is wet, it is recipe for aquaplaning. Been there before too. That is why now I am sticking to narrower tyres.

thanks for the advice mate...

any idea what will be the ideal speed on a wet road for a 18'' 225 40 series?

If still want to drive fast during rainy day..always remember this technique...
"slow in ...fast out"..during cornering..

No Jules, mine was the first ever batch that didnt come with a steering damper...that was the scary bit! Suzuki rectified it much later and sent one over - foc
People thiink I was mad to ride it that hard but hey, I had fun as knew my limits.... which were way below what my bike was capable of and at the same time treating my machine with great respect.

The chances of aquaplaning is greater at the sides of the h/way. Assume that you are on a 3 lane h/way, you'd be safest sticking to the middle lane. Roads are built that way and gradually tapers off on the sides to ease excessive water build-up, hence allowing it to flow off into drains.

What is "wet"?
Slightly damp? Drizzle? Rain? Tropical storm? Running water? 1-inch pool? Tyre manufacturers can show that some tyres can even aquaplane at 60km/h. What i'm trying to say is that there is no fixed formula or answer to your question. So rule of thumb is drive slow. (Then again, whats "slow"? To M Schu, 140km/h in the wet is slow...)

General rule of thumb and optimally in combination with some basic car control training.... "If it doesn't feel right, it's not right"

veli the true.... i will usually keep to a speed in which i have my full steering "feel". if it ain't there, i will slow down until i find it back.:D erh, do i make sense?

true is true... basically that is what i also do...

searched on the net for materials on recommended speed on wet road but takda...

i guess how wet and how fast or how slow all depend on the car setting and ultimately depend on the captain himself...

however car setting is veli hard to measure... using wider tyres are not advisable for wet road, how wider is wide? fixing performance suspensions for the car is recommended for stability and handling however since there is lesser room space between the tyres and the body, again not advisable for raining season huh...

mmm morning wish list:

1. 1 touch button for car setting to be for wet road and another button for dry road.

Demon,

Wouldnt that take the "fun" element away if everything is "programmed"?

Driving wouldnt be that "exciting" anymore.....the sheer driving pleasure would be gone, although I do agree it would do heaps for safety but then people wouldnt be gaining experience to counter react nasty situations....oh....I forgot, by then I presume that there wouldnt be any nasty situations.....car your wouldnt allow that....it does not compute.

Nice quote. For cars it should be....

"You will never know how fast you can go.... until you go off-road.:D "
