Can someone please let me know if it is worth adding the radio booster? May I also know if the booster is going to be internally concealed or will it have to be mounted somewhere on the dashboard? I'm totally clueless!!

Not for the long run. Reception is bad. Booster is concealed.

By the way, this should be standard when you buy your Jap spec car. Even without asking, my salesman told me the booster will be FOC. They fixed it up for me so I am bearing with it while looking for the CCC change.

i bet your salesman also told you that the radio would work PERFECT with the booster...that was what my salesman & many others i know did. nobody would expect to pay 300k for a car and not being able to listen to the radio...!

Actually my salesman was quite good, which is why I ended buying 2 bimmers from him!

He did tell me reception would not be good, and that it is just a stopgap solution. He recommended another guy to fit the DVD changer/FM Tuner modules, but I found his solution not attractive, hence looking for the CCC now.

But even if salesman did not tell me, I already knew radio reception was going to be a problem with Jap cars.... thanks to the good people here in the forum! So I have no complaints in the sense that I went in with eyes wide open.

Why lack of oomphh? Yeah, the radio thing is bad, but at least I get to enjoy TV while stationary!

lack of ooommpphhh.. cuz mine is a 525i m54,wish i had bought the 530i instead.just can't swallow the rm30+k premium..

the radio thingy is just abysmal.. dunno why BMW made the whole thing so complicated, its just a goddamn radio for god's sake.they should've made the radio tuner modular..

CCC cost about RM9k...

I know it has been discussed before but most audio workshop offered an interface + reverse camera (Eclipse) + Garmin Gvn53 + CD/MP3/DVD/FM tuner for less than that... I heard from a lot of Bimmers that it' worth the money... but the question is "is it viable to go for CCC conversion"???

Ooooo, from the way you phrased your statement, was as if it was a Jap-spec specific thing. That's the same regardless of Jap-spec or local. I think the 525 is still a pretty potent vehicle, especially in M-Sport form. I have the 530, pulling power is great, but maybe not as sharp around corners due to the "only" 17" tyres and standard suspension.

First you have to determine if your Jap-spec CCC has the AUX function. If not (like mine), you would have to upgrade the software first. And I have heard that more often than not, upgrading the software might lead to you frying your CCC. The thing about the CCC change is that you get to use the radio and satnav as BMW meant you to, not through a secondary screen on the iDrive. Again, up to each person's personal preference.

well,i guess in isolation the 525i is adequate.. its just that for me,coming from a 390bhp saloon,the 525i seems like a limp d*** la..forgive my french haha..

supergripen bro, power is relative.... if you're coming from a 390hp machine, then nothing short of the GT-R will be enough for you

ess530i... absolutely agree with you!

hi guys,

m not sure what is this CCC thingy...is that the computer chip board??

i took my car, a 525i Japan spec in Jan this yr and have installed d alpine 222...radio reception is better with booster...but only certain frequencies like 94.5 but 988 and 101.8 is not clear at all.
have also upgraded d software...can't remember d version but d screen is silverish in colour. so far so good.

Yeap...those who were thinking of doing the CCC conversion...there are five units in stock now so better hurry up before he goes out of stock again

I just had my CCC upgrades last week on my 545i, it was the best thing I did. The radio is amazing and using the navigation from the correct screen and by the idrive is fantastic. I wanted my car to be as per the factory as possible, why pay so much for a car and not have everything working.
