I actually did mine back in 2008. If you read my recent previous posts, my problem started about a month ago when the said CCC conked. So nothing new for me, just that I got it done up. Back in 2008, cost me RM10K+ to get the entire thing done. This includes CCC, 8-disc DVD changer, media interface + installation/labour.

Pros: you get to see things the way BMW intended for you to see, e.g. local radio channels, SatNav via iDrive, CD drive (which supports MP3 - most important to me! :)) in place of the Jap-spec MD player
Cons: stupid BMW SatNav CD is woefully outdated, even though I am using the 2010 latest version. Lots of places still not included. Also cost of doing up the whole thing

By the way, if you just want a new local CCC, it should cost around RM4K+ only now. But it's not just simple plug-and-play, you also have to get someone to do the proper programming to ensure you get all the features working properly with your car (according to Freddie Obermaier). Freddie also says the LCI version CCC (i.e. with the shortcut buttons) is also compatible with the pre-FL versions.

So assuming your car is already specced up properly (i.e. with SatNav, even though Jap-spec - meaning you already have the GPS antenna, iDrive screen compatibility and SatNav interfaces), it will cost you about that much to get local radio + SatNav going. No need DVD changer and media interface.

With the introduction of the new F10 5-Series, everything about E60 has gone down in price! Last time I asked on the LCI head and taillamp, it cost more than RM12k! Recently it cost approx RM8k but it's still out of budget for the moment :D I'm waiting for them to drop further!

But like you said, for RM4k we only get local radio station & SatNav (with not-so-up-to-date-map)... no DVD or USB! In fact, I was contemplating on whether to change the CCC or add interface... and chose the latter in the end! I'm a happy man now... coz I can put thousands of songs into my USB, plug into my Kenwood player and sing along to my fav tunes!! :top: As for Garmin, it still has its flaw coz the voice system doesn't recognise or mispronounce the road name. My recent trip to Ipoh and I wanted to go to old town area of Ipoh for a cuppa white coffee, the MalSingMap didn't know that most roads have been changed to one way so I ended up using my own logics and sense of direction to guide me there! And for those who want to install reverse camera, you won't be able to do so without the interface (which have to be bought separately if you change the CCC) and therefore cost you more!

Thanks bro Alxy and Thule,

I hope I had made a correct decision. Initially, I thought to replace an entire CCC will cost me 8 to 9k so I placed an order to fix up multimedia interface yesterday before I read your post. I am going to install 2 camera and DVD player (as I am impressed by Thule's picture :) ). I dont border SatNav cox I always use an external 7" GPS with up to date map.

For DVD player, I may fix it at the existing CD Changer location and move the CD changer magazine to laggage compartment (where e39 is). For radio, some forumner comment radio module will be fried if perform re-program so, I will temparary use a booster.

Next thing will do... change the RFT tyre.... very noisy!

bro thule, no more selling ur E60 plan? hehe...good to have u here again

Bro thule, to be honest, if I do it now, I might just opt for the setup that you chose too. When I asked back in 2008, that same setup was quoted to me around RM7K+. But it's not so much the price and setup but the fact that the guy offering it to me did not manage to convince me of his product and services. I just felt more comfortable with Freddie.

BTW, I also asked about the LCI thing with Freddie. The tail lamp is now around RM2K+ only from Hella. It's got the built-in module already so you don't need to mess around with some other 3rd party gizmo. But for head light, still need to add the LCM.

So now.....LCI taillamps........tempting! racun racun...hehehehehe

Oh also, I must mention that I bought one of the rare Jap-spec cars that already came with PDC, so I didn't need the reverse camera

Yeah.. I remember you telling me that your E60 came with PDC (a rare breed indeed :top:) actually I'm referring to those who probably want to install reverse camera rather than PDC (price difference is huge!) LOL! But I understand your situation bro... if I were you, I would have done the same back then coz I would not dare to hand my car to those who does not sound knowledgeable. That's why I'm glad that I met Peter (it was by coincidence too!) of CV and he convinced me to do all the setup. I was practically there for the whole day (and next day too) to look at how they worked... impressed and convinced!

What? the tail lamp already comes with built-in module?? not those taiwanese module right? coz the end result is not nice as I'd seen one which looked like shit~ for RM2k++... I can consider upgrading the tail lamp first and then eventually change the headlight!

Yup! As per Freddie. It's from Hella. In fact, when I was there, he was doing up an M5 that did the entire LCI conversion (including head lights) for around RM10K. Looked original. But I didn't see it with the lights on, so not sure if it'll look as good then. But I do know that Obermaier's customers are a pretty fussy lot, so must be some minimum standard of quality for Freddie to use that.

Try it out and let us know the results! :D

My car then was 2004 model, without the AUX function. Guy told me he MIGHT be able to reprogram the CCC, but if fried not his problem. That was the major factor that scared me off. You know la.... just got the car few weeks suddenly a major component KO....not something I wanted to risk then. Now? I don't mind giving it a shot! :)
