meen, this is the guide for your E38. Hope some of the picture help.

The wiring circuit from the general module. (pin out is 20). You dont need to tap from the interior lamp.
Since you mentioned that you dont have the footwell lights, it would be best to tap directly from the General Module.

Here is the picture of the general Module. It is located behind the glove compartment.

Thx Jarance.

I did mine already. Just tap the wire from the interior light at the roof, as nearer and didn't mess much. And to light up the smd i just tap from the headlight itself. Managed to make the wiring easy for me if i need to remove my headlight later. I'll post the photos in the other thread later.

Tq again bro :)

Believe you can buy the CCFL ballast from WRC Lamp at Sunway. Mine also CCFL and faced similar problem but since I installed it from WRC, they gave me free replacement.

Jarance, what is the price for e39 SDM LED?

dont know for e39 but the last time we bought the SMD LED for E46 under GB for RM200 lar.

I think there is a forummer by the name of harith selling it for RM210.

btw, original E39 headlamp are completely sealed if I am not mistaken..

Herbert's headlight is from the aftermarket brand, so can be open and replaced with the SMD, if i'm not mistaken..

Even the Hella brand, we still can open the headlight cover, but a bit massive work la..

And i did open one headlight, the original Hella with the amber signal cover...very hard to open but managed to with the housing breaks. Then we found that somebody has previously use the 255 or stronger to glue it...

yeah I remember now. it is DEPO but he prefer the other name "cheepo" with VCO added for long lasting effect.

Yeah, Herbert's one you can mix with coconut oil to get better effect.

Yes, my headlights are Depo and it has served me well & fine since I purchased it 2 years ago. Plastic cover is still clear and shinny. Why? coz I applied VCO on the surface. Anyone want to try VCO?

Whoever broke their CCFL ballast should consider converting to LED, well worth the investment. Less part, less headache.

I'm thinking of installing this on my E46 as a daytime running 'Angel Eye' light, will it last as long as the after market audi type daytime running light?

I'm using my angel eyes as DRL for almost a year now, still as good as new. Mine is from umnitza.com which has lifetime warranty.

change to SMD lar..

Hehehe ... i'm still thinking about it. What i like about the CCFL it has a nice glow to it while the LED's a bit to bright for my liking.

mine was also in the headlamp housing lar and it is also busted.

That's how my broken inverter looks like ... change several time already :(

The shop i got it is: Unstoppable Autosport, 16-1 Jln PJU 5/4, Sunway Damansara. Phone# 03 6140 7070. Last that i check about few months back, the name of the shop has changed but I think they are still carrying the items. Try your luck enquiring there.

Thanks bro for the info :top:

The wiring looks clean and simple bro :top: ... Agree with you less part less headache hehe

beemer, if the LED is too bright, you can add a resistor in series with the supply to reduce the current/brightness.

Or a variable resistor so you can change the brightness at will
