PWM is short for pulse width modulation

sure? I thought it was "People Want More" - joking..

For control of lights and electrical equipment, sometime we use
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) or PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation)

cythomas83, yours is quite new, can't you go back to the seller for a warranty?

I'm not sure what bro Yazmeen meant, is it resolder only or replace the LED?

Need to check again but I think all are ok if not there will be a discontinuity in the ring. And mine is wired to turn on all the time.

I am contemplating fixing either an LED or CCFL on my E39. Any suggestion where I take do it and the cost involved?

Between LED and CCFL I would say LED since it is brighter and more reliable. CCFLs have ballast that frequently breaks (from others experience) and need to be hidden/mounted. Also no fading out on CCFL.

Cheers

Alex, go for LED. It give less problem. I think the market price is about RM220 without installation.

Just for you, you can come to my place to fix it..

Alex,

I am also thinking of changing my CCFL to LEDs. Problem with CCFL is the electronic ballast as over time, the heat from the engine basically damaged the ballast and have replaced 2 ballasts over 24 months.

Jarance, install for Alex & me too. Thanks.

Jarance,
Just got home from dinner and engagements and now only going thru the forum. Saw your reply and Thanks a lot for the offer, but mine is a E39, the cover is diff from E46, it needs to be heated to open it. Can you do it? If can, perhaps one of the weekend I can pop over to your place to have it done....
