Thanks for the reminder but I can't seem to be able to copy the list and then add my name to it with my iPad. Still learning how to use it. Appreciate if bro can help put my name on the list.

Dun worry, I got so much free time on my hands, I've done it for you :) Welcome to the forums! Friendly place this one :)

There seems to be so many supporters for 520d for obvious reasons but is there any reason someone should consider 523i instead? I am new and not sure if i am missing something here because 5231 is more expensive and as far as i can tell it has an extra active integrated steering only which is really not much.

ming, 523i also has adjustable air-conditioning at the back seat. Engine sounds great from outside. From afar, ppl will know u r coming

ming, frankly speaking, if you had an option to get rid of the integral active steering, you should. I added the option for my giant of a car, the F02, but it can really cause you to misjudge the steering & make the whole car feel artificially jerky at low speeds - so much so that I end up making minor corrections to put the car back on track whenever I park the car. Wife hates it.

So, when it came to the 6er, the first thing that I unticked was the sunroof. The second was the Integral Active Steering. The test drive car (the coupe) didn't have the IAS, and it was a much better drive experience than the convertible which had the IAS.

Just my 2 cents worth.

actually i hate IAS too. When i put in sport mode, it will reset itself when u restart the car. That is utter irritating.

Thank you wobbles and DJH. I am truly struggling to find a reason to buy a 523i over 520d. I dont really care about engine sound. I am driving a very old car and anything should sound better than it. Problem is the 520d does not come with 5 years warranty which i feel could be crucial. Can anyone remember if BMW ever offered this 5 year warranty before in the past?

5 years warranty or 5 years BSRI?
I believe any manufacturer will come up with something to entice buyers. This is quite norm as market is saturated

You're welcome, ming. Whichever model you end up deciding upon, I reckon you'll never regret getting a 5'er. Honestly, so many accolades have been printed about it - best exec car in its class, best this, best that - and frankly, it looks MILES ahead better than the competition's square, boxy fugly look. The 523i has the venerable N52B25 - tried & trusted, forged in the heat of many battles, smooth as a baby's bottom due to the balancing of the cylinders (read the caption below for details)

wikipedia said:
An inline six engine is in perfect primary and secondary mechanical balance, without the use of a balance shaft. The engine is in primary balance because the front and rear trio of cylinders are mirror images, and the pistons move in pairs. That is, piston #1 balances #6, #2 balances #5, and #3 balances #4, largely eliminating the polar rocking motion that would otherwise result. Secondary imbalance is avoided because an inline six cylinder crankshaft has six crank throws arranged in three planes offset at 120°. The result is that differences in piston speed at any given point in rotation are effectively canceled.

The 520d is a 4 potter, and while the engine may not have the smoothness & refinement of the N52B25, it nevertheless trumps it in frugality.

Either way, you'll not be disappointed.

Just on that note about the inline 6, I have this additional comment to make: you never know what you're missing until you tried an inline 6. I'm not a big fan of wails and howls (ala Ferrari, Maserati or Lamborghini styled exhaust notes) - I don't really like to announce to everyone of my impending arrival, so the timbre of the exhaust note doesn't give me a hard-on as much as some. I'm however, pretty particular about how I want my ride experience to be (shudder-free). How I want the power delivery to be (smooth, silky) and how I like the feeling of ample reserves available at my command - the N52 in its various forms & displacements can deliver that experience. It never seems to run out of breath at every-day speeds of driving, and you'll learn to appreciate just how quiet and subtle the car is, at idle. None of that shuddering or clicking over that can sometimes plague diesels or 4-potters. It's a very very refined experience.

Again, just my 2 cents worth :)

You're most welcome - it's just an honest personal opinion, that's all. I'm glad you found it useful :)

I also avoided the IAS. I think the Sports Automatic Transmission is a must..

I used to drive the competition's square, boxy fugly models including both inline six and V8s. Even then I quite enjoy the torque, response and driving experience of the 520d 4 potter. So fun I have already done more than 7k km in just 5 weeks! And such a good FC. Tested the 523i before but.......

If i am not mistaken it is 5 years BSRI and warranty or 100,000km.

Dude, if I'm not mistaken it is 5 years or 100,000km BSRI only. The warranty still remains at 2 years. Do check with your SA to confirm. However please be careful of the answer he/she gives you! Sometimes the SA will give you wrong information as some of them are not really well-versed in their products!

Of course thats normal for salesman. But when I know how much they earn by selling BMW. I would say pathetic for a premium brand
