Update

Hi guys, a little update on the project.

After a quick demo to officemates they commented that the glare is too much. An idea from Jarance is that to tilt the screen to not reflect directly from any window. So I've decided to to tilt the screen down to mirror towards rear seat instead of rear window. Visibility increase tremendously. Current orientation.

Also reverse camera and GPS mouse arrival. The reverse camera is going to be installed during CNY break, planning to include a manual switch so that it can be used when not in reverse as well  The GPS mouse uses SIRF III chip and has magnetic base. Locking time is good, planning to put it behind the instrument cluster.

Also bought a supposedly anti-glare screen protector to replace the factory one. This is originally made for Galaxy Tab. We'll see how good this one works, the protector is quite milky (promising).

How much for the anti-glare? Where did you get it? and does it work? I think all of us are keen to know..

The anti-glare screen protector is for Samsung Galaxy Tab, I got it at the local phone shop as they also sell the Tab now. It is listed at RM39.90 but manage to get it down to RM25. Haven't install it yet, need to cut it to size first. Will update after installation, maybe this weekend. Is that too long a wait? let me know.

Tab is an android device rivaling iPad. http://galaxytab.samsungmobile.com/

Screen protector result

Guys, applied the screen protector but not with good result I must say. The layer spread/diffuse the light that hit it causing the glare to be worse, I think. Check out the pictures below. I'll use that for now anyway. So much for anti glare screen protector.

OMG!!! You are amazing! With that you dont have to plug your car to a computer to check the fault! I hope you willing to help others to install that to their car.

w00t. How I wish my E36 was OBDII

masCh, I'm not familiar with E36 but from the round connector there is the equivalent K line that is also used on the 16 pin OBD. Can't we just get the converter and read from it, it is ISO 9141-2 compliant..

geoffreylee, exactly because there is already a computer in the car :58:! I'll be glad to assist anybody undertaking this..

Cheers

masch, I dont think E36 can get live data from the ECU.

Even some E39 and E46 also cannot read Live Data. It depends on the type of ECU installed in the car.

Jarance you're evil, now I can't spend the rest of the day without researching on how to do this..

I was initially referring to those who wanted to install a computer in their car. :ridinghorse:

ha.. ha.. The only program that I find that is wince5 compatible is a "Check Light" It comes in Russian and English.

When install in my DD player, it shows in Russian but in English when I use wince emulator on my Win XP laptop.
Cant seem to default it to English.

I have already got the USB driver for my scanner for "Arm Processor" from FTDI website.

Lazy to try so many things to do R&D so you do it lar.. LOL

Got to have a HLG unit to R&D, care to lend me one..? I tried to do the search as well, it is revolting with so many DD unit around the world nobody is upgrading (hacking) it for OBD.

Hey there, thanks and welcome to the board. The OBDII interface installed in the car is a generic one. It essentially accesses one layer of information advertised by the car to comply to OBDII standard. It doesn't have the capability to access other modules other than the engine and transmission.

If you want a more thorough diagnostic capability which accesses all modules, try looking at the group buy for bmw-scanner that's currently running here http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?40554-GB-for-OBD-II-Scanner-for-E46-E39-E85-E83-E38. Or if you want to have something like the workshops would have, look here http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?40618-EasyDIS-44-and-INPA-working
