bro....you need manual steering rack for e30.
you will also need the steering column shaft which is longer.
also the pulley (single belt) as this pulley do not need to run the PS pump.

i have all these if you want ....

all these was taken out of my previous e30 which came with ori manual steering rack.i retrofitted the powered steering system after finding that my wife's biceps became almost bigger than mine...

However, I had expressed a few times power steering failure before on my E30.....and the manual effort needed during parking is herculean.


Now on E36 PS convert but i still prefer the E30 steering feel..... just sharing my experience. Why I changed? to get good used E30 racks is like stricking lottery and its very expensive now.

PS Change to E36

I am not against the change as the reality is not many have the choice not to.

In my case, I had 3 PS failures ( ori, replacement 1, replacement 2 ) and i just got fed up! One reason is the cost and more so the time of running around looking for a e30 ps rack......i took the easier route of modding. Modding is also not cheap.....but gives me the peace of mind. ( touch wood! )

If I had the choice, i would retain the e30 ps only for the sake of keeping the car as original as possible. From the steering feel wise, I also do detect that the E36 feels a bit more vague compared to the E30 ori unit but then its my hands.....

So you decide what's best for you.....n good luck!

Roger that! Thanks for the feedback and I'll proceed with the e36 mod and revert with my feedback... My E30 rack is fine but thing is it feels a lil too light for my liking, was hoping the E36 mod would provide me with a wee bit more feedback. No qualms about retaining the originality as long as it's from BMW heheh!
