hey guysneed some advice la. my e90 died this evening in the flash flood. car has been towed to Ingress, awaiting their report tomorrow. remote still works, meaning could get in and out of car. carpet a bit wet meaning water got inside but not much. tow truck driver advised not to restart the car.question is what damage to the car is to be expected in this case?thanks for any advice.

Hi,

If you drove your car thru the flood and eased off the accelerator the water would have been sucked into the engine chambers and welded the cylinders. Getting a new engine would be cheaper then doing an overhaul.

Regards.

Oh my...that's the worst i can imagine! sorry to hear that bro!

Look on the bright side, lotsa cars down in Singa island having the problem. Would you mind telling us the location that the flood took place? Just need to take note of it.

does insurance cover this?

Not unless you added natural disaster (flood, landslide etc) cover. Wait for the Ingress report - it may not be terminal.

thanks guys. keeping my fingers crossed. doesnt the car have a engine cut off sensor in cases like this to prevent damage?

so I can't get movie ticket for Inception in 1U actually save me from the flash flood la.

Sorry to hear about the car, bro. Hope your engine & electronics survive. With so many reports last year of flash flooding, I chose to exchange insuring my windscreen for specific flood protection - if i remember correctly, about 0.5% cost of insured value...sigh...why can't we get proper drainage?

Wow! Could have happen to me.. 1U open car park quite raised up. The bus terminal is at an even lower level, if that flooded, the lower ground car park also flood lor?

If car just submerge, without engine running. Very important to cut the battery supplies. E90 easy because got a big fuse terminal slap over the battery, I think can shut the power from there rather than removing terminal which require a size 10 wrench. Normally car suffer from this need to replace all fluids and that alone, no less than RM2k, before attempting to crank the engine again.

If car is driven over still water/flood and engine die, Opps! piston would have seized because water may have sucked into the combustion chamber through the air filter inlet. con rod can bend, piston can break into pieces, cam shaft can twist.

Anyway, good luck!

Normal insurance do not cover such act of nature, unless u buy separately. Can try claiming from MPPJ or the building management. My friend's MPV was hit by a falling tree on Jalan Sultan Ismail, in front of Sheraton Hotel, he managed to claim from DBKL.

Damn man, I hope it's not hydrolocked. Did you try to start the car atleast once? I hope not.
Good luck. Yesterday rain was pretty crazy

car was driven thru flash flood. wasnt too high according to my wife. will update u guys when i hear from Ingress.

guys

thanks for the concern. now i need to have a back up plan in case i send out the car instead of doing it at Ingress. Any recommendation for reliable workshop? Probably overhaul and not engine replace.

thanks

sorry to hear about ur predicament man ....looks like gota make sure to park high up these day ....scaryyy

the problem is that our bmw's air intake inlet is low compared to the japs'. so a relatively low flood would also be a problem, despite smaller cars being able to go thru.

furthermore, flash floods are unpredictable and unexpected. by the time it happens, its too late to back out. Best to not even go out if its raining very very heavily.
