Dropped by at the SC few days ago to enquire about possibility of decoding ASSSo the SC personnel explained to me that to do this, they will have to call and get the code no from Germany. Then they will basically have to download and reprogram the whole car again, only changing the part concerning the ASS. The whole process will take 4 to 5 hours. Now I have just picked up my car hardly a week ago, and so far am quite pleased (touch wood) with the car ex factory. If I carry through the ASS decode, will there be any risks of any other programs going astray? The ASS is currently only a minor irritation to me. Thx for any advise.

As the decoding will be carried out by the authorised dealer, don't think there will be any risks. If and should there be any, believe the dealer concerned will rectify it.

After I did the ASS recode, Jennifer Lopez would start singing instead of the BMW gong if I didn't wear my seat belt... But she eventually went away. I'm sure it's fine...

Just do it.
It should be done for free.
Ingress wanted to charge me RM200 for it.

I fired of an email to BMW Voice and Ingress called me back and said it was free ^^

Thanks for all replies.
My concern was purely based on my readings of how `sensitive' the electronics of the f30 can be.
Omnitech, yes I'm getting it done for free. And Herbert, thx for your vote of confidence.
Now dw, that is quite naughty of you. As long as its J Lo, and not somebody like Whoopi Goldberg, I'm OK with that.
Better if they appear on the screen too....he he.

I did my ASS re-programming yesterday.
And guess what??
My I-Drive went dead.
The Customer Service told me, something about virus attack on the motherboard.
It sort of re-boot itself every 2 to 3 mins.
Thus they have to order a replacement from Germany and it will take 2~3 weeks.
I am now driving without I-Drive meaning, no ICE, no clock display on dashboard, no active day-light driving, just plain automobile.
Not even the CD is working.
I did ask, Is it the re-programming that causes it. But they don't know.
They just order a new replacement.

I think it is not worth re-programming. Just remember to 'off' it at every start up will be sufficient.
Not worth the trouble.
And worst, yesterday was my b-day.
What a birthday surprise!

So sorry to hear abt your predicament Keriski bro.
So my hunch was right after all. Something has bn bugging me abt it....this incident confirms it then.
I hope the SC will be able to resolve ur issues bro.
And if its not too late , Happy Belated Bday...

Your hunch ?

I am afraid Keris problem seems to be an isolated case. Or most likely a case of the SC not knowing what the heck they are doing .

I know quite a few bros who have had their ASS changed to the "Last Saved Mode" and their cars are working fine.

Furthermore, this "upgrade" is an authorized service bulletin from BMW global.

I doubt they would make a service bulletin unless they are very confident that they can update the setting without compromising the car.

Just my 2 cents.

Dont want the wrong information going around :)

Yup, mine works just fine after coding the ASS to 'last user setting' at Ingress months ago.

Bro Omnimech,

Pls don't get me wrong on the OP. I wanted to get rid of the ASS altogether also, but then realised that it is not something that I have to live with as it can be turned off everytime I start the engine so....only a small inconvenience.

Plus the fact that I have just picked up my UDM, you just want to enjoy the car right? No time for any worries bro. I know that Keris's case might be one off, but it is still a possibility, right? No matter if its the SA, SC or whoever's fault.

Just table the facts, if it happens, it happens. Let everyone make their own choice. Fair???

I am not saying one should or should not do.
I'm just relating the trouble and the depression feeling of not being able to enjoy my ride after reprogramming ASS.
If one can live with it, like Beatle say, "Let it be".

I just want to enjoy my ride.
If Auto Bavaria management is reading this, please, please please air freight in the replacement.
Cheers everyone.

LOL..all my bros, the ASS is supposed to be the extra innovation that BMW has come up with. It is an irritation to almost everyone, however, like any change, psychologically we all tend to oppose. But if it doesn't come with the car and available at extra cost, i can bet many would wish to buy and install it. It take a relatively short while to get used to switch if off, depending on if you are driving the car all the time, you would have an auto hand switching is off, merely 5mm from the start/stop button LOL......or if you forget to switch it off and at complete stop you face a "jerking" experience, then one must remember, you are BMW drivers, well known in the world for driving fantastically (though recently read complaints that BMW drivers are ' jerks' haha) surely can deal with just a small jerk...the bottom line is imho it is ok to keep the ASS that is if you can stand the urge to reprogramme - the irritation is small compared to BMW drivign pleasure.......but of course it is your decision, this is just my 1/2 cents bros.

Actually for me no real issue. Usually i will remember to switch it off after i start the car. In the event that I forgot to switch off, the moment it activates then i switch it off. No real issue for me .. can definitely live with it.

last user setting simply means car remembers whether the ASS was on or off the last time you drove it. so if you start your car with the ASS off, just turn it on shud you want it to, and it will remain on until you again turn it off; after 2 hours or 2 months. this is a much better setting than factory default.

having your car ASS recoded doesn't mean you're eliminating that feature. you make the choice when ASS is on or off, instead of your car.

That and when you change to eco pro mode, the ASS turns back on anyways.

its more of a preference.

I like the option to remember cause in the morning, i tend to be blur and I always forget to turn the ASS off.

When my car jerks at the traffic light, it irritates me :p

So for peace of mind and peaceful driving in the morning, i got it done :)

never been happier. hehe

Hi guys, has anyone done it at AB jb? I've just called them up, trying to arrange for appointment and was told that I need to write in for ASS decoding. Wtf???:motz:

Hi Christ,

Gosh this thread masih hidup aaa.....hahaha.

From what I was told, BMW as a company do not encourage this recode as they are officially championing sustainability in driving ie reduction in carbon ommision etc etc.. This recode will run counter to their co philosophy.

So to get it done you need to come up with a good storyline laa....car jerking when restart ke, engine mati ke....you know what I mean...

But for me so far, it has been close to 3 months, and you know what? I did get used to pressing the ASS off everytime I start the car, so it is actually no big deal really.

Your call bro.

Said re-code our ASS will cause problem is a good strategy...less work to do for pay-less job. After 24 months the warranty over they said: go far-far away to die, no time to Fxxx U!!!:aetsch::thefinger:
