I previously stay in Taiwan, every 5000 km is good but 10000km is the max. I usually go to "outside" workshop for oil and filter change and go back to BMW service for every 10000 km, this save some $$... But I am not sure if BMW msia would allow this or not. We even can bring our own oil and they just charge for the man power... The BMW oil is expensive, we can get higher grade oil at the same price.... Anyway, this is for Taiwan.....

When I was staying in Eurpoe last 5 years, I was fortunate enough to get 1 company car (new) . It was a fiat croma 1.9 turbo diesel. Additionally, I bought myself a used mini cooper s. When it reaches 10,000 km I told the company guy to do the servicing. He was puzzled, telling me they do not service the car until I return the car at the end of the year (they company change car every year). He says, with even heavy driving, the car will max average to about 30,000km at end of the year which is the recommended service interval.
For my own purchase car, I brought it to an independent workshop for servicing when it reaches 10,000km. Again, the service guy was puzzled and told me it was to soon to service the car and thus refuse to do so. I end up servicing the car after 20,000km. I have never ever open up the company car bonnet ever since (not even to check water and battery) and have no problem at all for the last 5 years I was there.
That being said, driving a car back in Malaysia I wouldn't dare stretching the service pass 10k. I guess weather play a major role. Plus I guess since car price doesnt cost an arm an a leg there, they do not care much of the cars as we do.

My old E46, service every 25,000 km, no problem at all, as relate to weather in Malaysia, I wouldn't think it will affect the engine oil properties, as your engine runs at a much higher temperature than our weather, I believe with all the R&D that BMW had, they wouldn't suggest 25,000 for service if they don't think the oil will last, my opinion....

BMW doesn't have to know... Just use the same oil and don't reset the service meter counter

They should be using Castrol Edge Professional A3 5W-40 but please confirm with your SA, they will gladly tell you.

I make appointment for service around 8k. So far no questions asked. These engine oils have long life as demonstrated in another thread with a link to a russian site. To play it safe, I use liquid moly's ceratec for extra protection and ummph!

regardless of mileage i just service every 6 months at an authorised SC. Of course need to pay myself but get peace of mind and prolong engine life.

Can also do it outside at cheaper cost and i doubt the SC would go to the extent to check the oil used.

They definitely won't bother checking the oil. But IMHO, I would maintain the same type of oil for consistency..

Do a search with the key words "oil sludge" and see the sludge problem faced by fellow members.

sorry guys. i think there is some misunderstanding here.

oil does not run hotter in Malaysia. ambient temperature is hotter but not the oil

oil runs the same temperature everywhere around the world.

the only way the engine oil will run hotter or cooler would be a change in atmospheric pressure.

Eg: boiling water in Malaysia, US and Artantica. temperature is still 100 degrees celcius!!

the only way it can be hotter is if there are impurities or change in atmospheric pressure.

so no our engine oil should behave like the engine oil in the UK and US and also Dubai.

FOr comparison I just consolidated the approximate first service under BSRI indicated by the OBC.
Thanks for the feedback and please copy and add to it.

If u check ur I drive..there are few things that needs servicing and at different period/interval..some guess what it shows in the service reminder is the earliest of all service/change u need to do..maybe if u use lotsa brake n wear outer brake pad faster,u need to replace it about after 8000-9000KM..

Hi..just some feedback from KK. Mine was 10k when I got it and now 8000 after using about 1400km. My SA told me to service every 10k. Can they set the interval at 10k coz thats what they seem to do here in KK FM Autohaus.
