What F30 model are you driving?
My car is 328i. I like the handling and it is fun to drive this car. But, the quality and reliability issues are very disappointing.

SA says Motor on water pump has failed and needs to be replaced. Ridiculous for it to fail within one year by the way.
Gauge temperature reading is 106 * Celcius.
Car apparently has a fail safe so that you do not boil the engine. At least that's good, would save a lot of damage to your wallet and engine.

Hopefully they sort it out for good.

Exactly the same error messages. Happened 2 weeks ago and SA told me was software problem. Yesterday, the car failed completely in the middle of heavy traffic. My car mileage is merely 9000km and 6 months old. This F30 is very disappointing.

I feel for you bro. Just so unlucky of you to get a lemon. I hope this problem is isolated and not affecting all the f30s. Keeping my fingers crossed for now.

My husband drives the 5 series same message came up so drove slowly to service centre. Under warranty so something replaced foc (sorry can't remember what).
Car was barely 2 yrs old.

Walau....this is getting too common. Anyone else having the same problem? I hope this is not going to be like the rusted seat frames issue.

Nowhere as common as rusted seats la.. queue to replace rusted seat at one of the smaller dealers in Klang Valley is more than 20.

Lets hope no other problem wil be as prevalent..

My service centre have not even started the seat frames replacement programme.... SA said still waiting for BMW Malaysia instruction.

I had my seat frames replaced by AB KL when I sent my car for the Drivetrain problem. I checked and noted the frames are painted black now. Though I suspected they were merely painted, SA told me the frames were indeed replaced. Hence, it took about 3 working days.

For my cars, the Drivetrain problem only happens when I am stuck in heavy traffic jam such as bumper-to-bumper for around 30 - 45 minutes. So, you might want to acid test your car.

Lately, I notice that my car's engine temperature gauge seems to swing more than normal (but not till 120 Celsius yet). What I do notice is that it tends to lean nearer to the 120 Celsius mark from the half-way mark between 70 and 120. Also, it tends to get hotter when traveling in high speed. Is this normal for you guys? What's your engine's normal operating temperature? FYI, mine is a 328i model.

I'll start a new thread for discussion on this topic. Please post your reply there.

AB KL did not solve the problem. I hope AB Glenmarie will solve the problem. Thanks for sharing the info. Which AB branch you sent your car to ?

I sent my car to AB Penang.

Bro, thanks. Will get AB Glenmarie to check with AB Penang. Have you tried further to see the problem resolved?

I have been driving the car hard for a few days and everything is ok. I notice the new batch of f30 has an electronic actuator to control the boost whereas the older batch uses a vacuum valve old school.

I did ask the Workshop Manager whether the problem is due to the valve or the water pump. After 3 days, they told me it is the radiator. They are changing it and I hope to get my car by tomorrow. Will ask more details about the problem.

3rd time drivetrain malfunction since Feb 2013, sent my car to AB Glenmarie last Wed. Was told a "reprogramming" was done.

I am not sure what went wrong, but I will refuse to collect my car until AB and BMW Malaysia fix the problem.

It is very frustrating that the same problem keep on repeating. For less than 1 year, I have sent my F30 to AB workshop 6 rounds! That exceeds the number of trips I sent my other car to the workshop for the past 4 years!

This F30 is a real disappointment. When I first received it in Jul 2012, windscreen got scratches due to manufacturing defects. After half a year, problems highlighted in the forum appear 1-by-1:

1) Rusty seat frame.
2) One-touch function for driver side window not working.
3) Knocking sound from steering

I thought of fixing the above when i send for first service. Then, the message "Drivetrain. Continue the journey at moderate speed. Full performance not available. Have the problem checked by service" appeared two days ago. Today, the message upgrade to "Drivetrain, High temperature...."

Call AB Glenmarie, booking is 1 week later. Want to act fast, call AB KL, no one answered the phone!

Search internet, found the problem. Bloody hell, buying a BMW, get a proton service + proton quality. :top:
bro i fully understand ur feeling as i'm dissapointed to my car as well. Just call or email to BMW malaysia and diu 9 them 99 ask them to give solution asap to ur vehicle!

I had this problem 2 weeks back in my 1 series. The car shuddered and the RPM dropped almost to 0. I quickly drove to the emergency lane. Luckily i was at the slow lane, else i think the car would have stopped in the middle of the road
Had the car towed away to AB Glenmarie. A few days later technician called to say that the fuel pump could be faulty (sigh, and my car is only 3 years old).
Now the car had been repaired, and it cost me 2.3K for the part

I had this problem also, drivetrain, RFT indicator, ABS sensor. It all came out due to the lousy sensor located at each of the wheel. Each sensor cost about 600 (with labour), til todate i have done replacing 3 nos (in 4 years), the technician told me its the signature problem for this model. Speechless....

Actually my story hasnt ended. After 2 weeks of having the fuel pump replaced, the car AGAIN kaput with the SAME error message. Had it towed back to AB..After checking, it was found that the fuel float sensor is broken. The fuel tank cannot be opened nor the float sensor be repaired. Amazing.. It is a component that is supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. Had to order the part from Germany. My car is still in the shop. Quoted 3k for replacement (down from 5k). Gasp

Sorry to hear about your incidents. I was lucky because my car was under warranty and AB Glenmarie fixed most of the problems in 2013. Everything seemed to be fine but I sold this car 3 weeks. The resell value was very very bad and very very low. Decided to switch to a GLC250 now. Miss the power of 328i. But, amazing that MB catch up with the handling and suspension.
