F30 - "knocking" sound from steering/absorber

Hi bro which AB outlet you went to? Hopefully not the Glenmarie one!
 
Bro.. 3 time to AB Glanmarie and 1 AB JB.. Today will be another round of checking of my car and not sure yet the way forward.. but still believed they will claim the same prob (steering rack again) that make me fobia gila..
 
by the 5th or 6th round to service centres, the warranty will be over and most likely the first time you visit an "outside" bmw specialist workshop, they'll fix it right away.. lol

ultimately, service centres work on SOP.. they have guidelines and checkboxes to tick to troubleshoot and identify the problems based on your complaints..

specialist workshops, you can straight away discuss the problem that you're having and they'll be able to pinpoint the exact fault after some testing.. this is what i've found out dropping by specialist workshops and talking to the owners...

even better, start buying some original bmw parts from ebay or internet autoparts sellers, and you can even cut down your "after warranty" costs even lower..

Wow AB GLenmarie famous for bad after sales service bro, you will need second opinion from other dealers regarding this.

They can't figure out because the sounds are coming from both the steering rack and absorbers. Both items are defective in my case.
They have finally decided to replace my steering rack to the latest version. Apparently this is the 6th to 7th steering rack edition. They replaced mine once which was the 3 rd edition early last year.
As usual , check sound 3 days, waiting for the rack now 3 weeks...... Problem solve? Hope so.... Or just wasting more time.

well yes and no... the sound is because the spring is too long for the shocks travel. i have posted multiple times in this forum on F30 bouncy no more i am surprised that BMW havent figured it out yet.. even with Videos..

OMG guys.. go to Titan and it will be sorted..

Ian.. if that is all you can post ... please try harder..
 
My 2014 320i has both the "shock absorber knocking sound" and "steering noise"... they have changed my right side front absorber and recently the steering rack.. hmmm... no luck.. lol...the knocking sound and the steering noise are still the same ... when I asked what is the next action should be, and suggested inspection by "expert mechanic" from BMW itself they quick to say that as an authorised dealer they are responsible to rectify the problems .... and askes me to bring my car back thus Monday.. I started to get tired of my car... :( never expect thus kind of experience with brand new BMW...

All in the package of owning a BMW here in Bolehland unfortunately...I was in your shoes with them appointing a senior tech to solve my issues after I told them I'm getting annoyed that I sent in twice and the car was in there for 2+ weeks and the problem is getting worse so the next visit took almost a month long in the workshop but problem is solved in the end...

I agree we customers should not be going through all these as we expect the product to perform well within its warranty period and beyond but it seems to be the norm for BMWs made here...

Damned its still there. strip it second time and and the streering rack as well.. bloody hell it is the thrust bearing on the top mounting of the suspension. it bloody made of plastic and made knocking noise!!!!!!!!!!!! straight away i changed it to the older version from other car that fits the size. lucky richard has it in stock.. wooaaaalahhhh... no more knocking.. i have been bashing the car left right center for a week now and nothing happen, regs

Well guys, i got my f30 320i right before CNY. i am having issues with the vibration noise on the steering column over rough roads. my car is less than 2 months old.

Does BMW take a long time to rectify the problem? or its a known problem that can be solve in 1 day ? planning to send my card to AB Sg Besi to fix it.

Am using F30 328m sport for 3 months now. I got intermittent knocking sound from absorber, i think, whenever I come across a pot hole or its equivalent. At the moment its a once in while kind of thing. Hopefully it does not persist. Quite a let down if it turns out to be the same issue that has been highlighted here ie steering rack etc.

I have been suffering from the same issue since 2012 and till now still no solution. Already claimed 2 steering rack version and problem still persists. Service centre claims this is normal for advance BMW steering technology woh. Don't know what crap they talking about. I have never driven a car with this kind of crap in my entire life. Even proton and myvi is better over bumps and humps honestly. Crap crap crap.
 
Can't say I have the knocking sound but if you all mean that slight/soft knocking sound from the front suspension when going over speed bumps I always thought it was normal haha coz even my 2 previous cars from different manufacturers got the same sound and the manufacturers mention its the way the shocks are designed.

As for vibration sounds in the steering column I got mine settled after a long and tedious time (almost a month) @ the service centre. They had to find the culprit and finally they found the bugger that is causing it and replace something in the steering column. All's good so far after 8 months.
 
same with me, already change steering rack 2 times but the problem still there. On march sent to AB Glenmarie and they hold my car nearly a month just to check the steering rack and change the oil pump and the funny thing is the did not change the rear brake pad even though the milleage is about 70km to 60000km. They asked me to collect the car drive for a few km and send back to change the rear brake pad.
 
the sound doesn't come solely from steering rack.. the main culprit is the absorber mounting plates / thrust bearing..
