Should you service a new car before its 10k km is due?

So the 1st free service for our cars is at 10,000kms ?

And every subsequent how many KMs after that ?

I just realised from the registry that you're not the MSport that we all know well. No wonder the newbie question about BSRI! :) Friend welcome, but you've taken someone else's nick and this is gonna be confusing.

Bro, if I'm not mistaken, for all 2009 models, it is 1st BSRI at 10k and subsequent BSRIs set at 20k intervals. For 2008 and prior models: for 325s and above, it was 1st BSRI at 10k and subsequent BSRIs set at 25k intervals; and for 320s it was 1st BSRI at 25k and subsequent BSRIs set at 25k intervals.

However the recent BMWM letter and my own experience at my recent visit shows that they've brought subsequent BSRI intervals down to 20k, and I believe that's for all models, all years.

Bear in mind that the interval is set at each BSRI visit, but your OBC can change it based on your driving habits and condition of your car. Eg, after my 10k BSRI, the interval was set at 25k, meaning the next BSRI would have been at 35k, but that kept dropping faster until my OBC showed BSRI due at ~30k. I went in at 29k and they accepted it without question. So my car set its own interval at 20k. I think if you floor the accelerator and top 160kmh often, your OBC will think you're a hot-dogger and will lower the servicing interval accordingly. Conversely, if you drive like an auntie, your OBC will fall asleep. :D

My feeling is that BMWM has recently upped their BSRI cover as they changed things at my 29k visit that I never expected. :top:

Thanks for the lovely explanation. I really appreciate that.

p/s. Yes I'm a newbie in BCM and I didn't know of another member named MSport when
I signed up. Is there a way to change my nickname ? I don't mind changing too.
Mods, let me know.

Cheers to all ! :top:

Very good of you. :top: You've only put in 4 posts so why don't you just start up a new nick and drop this one? You can amend your registry posting with your new nick.

Ha! Ha! No prob. Only wished that my mileage was reaching 10K km instead of what it is now....

Msports, meet MSport. That's his real photo in his avatar BTW. Handsome dude. :D

thanks for the info
my mileage is at 1.4k now, it states next service interval at 8k km

just found out im suppose to run in till 2k km, but i din
i tot 1k was sufficient, and was doing above 4.5k rpm as well as using the manual gears...

must be like gilajazz... cos of modifications :D

Maybe good also to rev hard during the warranty period. Then, if the parts are not well done, it should show up.

Parts cost waaaayyy more than servicing. So yes, tekan the car and see what 'surprises are in store....

i tekan mine a lot.. shit.. this beemer is changing the way i drive...

That's a good reason for buying a 3-er: to use and drive it, not to pose it. :top: With your M-suspension, I'm sure you notice how your car doesn't even tilt on corners that would make lesser cars roll and squirm. And the steering feedback gives you full confidence to handle it if you go too far. That's the most fun part of driving a 3-er! :top: :top:

Bro, recommend you change your oil and filter at about 3k at an SC at your own cost. The RM500 spent is well worth it.

tats the problem... im switching btwn rides... so sometimes its abit hard for me to get used to it

its ok if i tell them i wanna service earlier b4 due?

Don't think they will accept before 8-9k. Pay for it yourself if you want to change your run-in oil. If not, leave it until the 10k service. But to me, you've already paid 250k for the car, so what's RM500 to ensure longevity of your engine (and overall first love)? :)

sharp,

of cos its ok if u want them to service earlier b4 yr BSRI due, but the service oil change & oil filter change is at yr own cost la. Then after this 'unofficial' service, u just wait until yr BSRI countdown to 7000 or 8000km, then bring in for yr 'foc' BSRI service again.

As for me, i did not do any 'unofficial' service but i did consider it, but end up not doing it as i felt our UDMs should be able to take the punishment up to the 1st BSRI service. So my BSRI countdown to 7100km & then i sent to IA last week. No problem, car is doing great all the way until the 1st BSRI service!

ya, i just send my car for the 3m tape for the creaking sounds

he told me i can send in , but under my cost, some where ard rm 600

schwepps, i would like to send it in earlier, but wat are the suggested mileage? im reaching 2k now..

If you're going to change the run-in oil and filter, do it early. So send it in before it reaches 3k - then you have 7k to go before your 1st BSRI. Remind the SC not to reset your BSRI countdown, since this change is at your own cost.

BTW, I think to change oil and filter for a 4-cyl, it should be around RM500+.

alamak... in that case, i shud have done it today then? shit... wasted......
my 1st bsri written there 8k though

Your 1st BSRI is at 10k. You've done 2k, so your service indication shows 8k more to go.

are u sure its a countdown?
as i said b4, those days i did 1.3k its also written 8k wor

Come back again to ask us why? when it goes down to 7k, then 6k, then 5k. :) It's not a linear countdown. It's also calibrated by OBC input, that's why it's called 'Condition Based'. It's all in the handbooks that come with the car.

ok, noted with thanks

finally got my allignment done, and the door creaks settle... i may sleep at peace now....
good job AB JB
