WHAT!!! I am touching almost 5k km on the odo and planning to drain my break in oil in a week or 2 and now my OBC ask me to go for another 27k km!!

Amazing German technology!!!

My batch of E90 325i sports has software issue that it doesn't indicate the service/oil change interval properly. So now I did the first 10k service and another 5k service (at 15k) last weekend. Of course, other than the hassle of going to AB more frequently, I don't mind because they changed the oil for me :top:

AB informed me that they need to perform the software upgrade (anywhere from 2 to 3 hours) to fix this. Since I sent in the car on Sunday, they do have have the right staff there to do it other than simple service. So now my service interval is another 10k km! Theoretically, you don't need to do oil change every 25k km or so

It is german technology gone wrong. No oil is going to last that long

I would change now and every 10-12k km

mine gone 5k plus km.

but they comp says another 31,000 km to service. diao..

German fantastic quality

Astroboy, as I have told you last Friday that I needed an oil change....! I did it on Saturday with Torco - 5W30 (SM). So far so good......

I would suggest not to follow the service schedule shown in the OBC. For safety and to save ourselves from having to fork out more money for any engine repair later on, it is better to just do a service interval at every 10,000 km to 15,000 km. You will never go wrong with this service interval.

I agree with DY. My own rule of thumb is every 6 months regardless of mileage. Service and oil change is cheap and pain-free compared to the heartache and cost of repairs.

dun know whether it is the software prob. went back to fix the RFT recently. My SA told me have to do the software update. i asked how come never call me abt it. he said not urgent but need to do it. so im thinking abt 10k for the first service only go back and do it at the same time ...

who d hell delete all penang TT treat.
this forum got alot of rules plss keep it ur house dun let us play......fuk

What happened to your RFT? What fix job was carried out?

Anyway... back to topic..

Visited a friend workshop in USJ, he recommended me to use either Petro-Canada 5w-30 or Torco 5w30 (MB229.31, BMW-LL04) both also 100% Synthetic. For 4 liters, Petro-Canada is about RM18X and Torco is about RM240, while Mobil 1 0w-40 (MB229.3, BMW-LL98) is about RM22X.. all are SM/CF..

What is the difference between Fully Synthetic and 100% Synthetic? anybody know?

They SOUND the same and LOOK the same.. :D

I am not an Oil & Gas/Petroleum engineer so correct me if I am wrong. I believe 100% Synthetic refers to Group IV oils, which are developed without any mineral oil-based components. Fully synthetic oils still have some mineral oil-based components. I recall that Mobil 1 0w40 should be BMW-LL01 certified. The Castrol Edge 5w40 that we find in M'sian retail shops are BMW-LL98 certified.

Whatever it is.... I have poured in the Q8 Exel lio.. it was a more than 2 hours DIY job.. very tiring, very exciting, very satisfying... its like performing micro surgery to a royal patient... this has just push my DIY record to greater heights!!! now my whole body aching for over stretching my muscles to perform the "delicate" surgical procedure.... :D

... and because of the job, I was an hour late for the F1 party.. :D

... am compiling the photos now... will post for your reading pleasure soon!

Oh yes... while doing it, noticed there's a leak under my power steering pump... what a bummer!! Geezzz...... its just a 3 months old car! *&%$#@@#$%

So we should be at min looking at BMW LL-01 preferably BMW LL-04 right?

Lets start a list of oils which we have found to be LL01 or LL04 and where to get them (price would be good too)..

I just went to Eunos in Jusco yesterday, and both the Mobil 1 5W-50 and Synthium 3000 5W is not BMW LL certified.

Some info I dug up:

---
LL-98 - Must be ACEA A3 and API SJ and meet some sort of requirements after a 370 hour run in a M44 engine with reduced oil volume.

From datasheets I've found, these oils seem to range from a Kvis100 of 11.6 to 15.2, averaging about 13.9. HTHS averages about 3.8, TBN about 9.5, and density about 0.853.

From various VOA's found at BITOG, ZDDP levels seem to run from at about moderate levels, mag at moderate to high levels, calcium at very low to low levels, and boron and moly at only trace amounts.

BMW LL-01 - Like the LL-98, also required to be ACEA A3 and run a 370 hour test, but the test engine is now an M54 with compatibility with the valvetronic system being a specific test requirement.

From datasheets I've found, these oils seem to run a little bit lighter and the LL-98, with a Kvis100 range of 11.3 to 14.1, averaging about 12.3. HTHS averages about 3.6, TBN about 10.4, and density about 0.849.

From various VOA's found at BITOG, ZDDP levels seem to run from low to moderate levels, mag at trace to moderate to high levels, and calcium, boron, and moly vary tremendously from trace to high amounts.

BMW LL-04 - Basically seems to be LL-01 spec with additional test requirements for compatibility with particulate filters on diesel engines.

From datasheets I've found, these oils seem to run about the same as the LL-01 oils, but with a lower average TBN of about 7.
