Hi guys, I am new to this forum and know many similar thread are lurking around, still I would love to share on my upcoming process of buying this weekend car for me. Working overseas and borrowing car from sister each time coming back must come to an end. After weeks of looking and reading reviews during work hours (from offshore on a vessel actually!), I think this piece of bimmer satisfy all, considering its comfort, luxury, power, and its affordability now. The one I looked at was advertised for ~68k. Managed to cut down to 65k with the boss initially. Excluding the misc cost: Road tax 880, insurance ~2.2k, all other runner loan JPJ Puspakom fees ~2k. Tested drive it 3 times on 3 different days to make sure it felt good. It clocked 130km. I couldnt manage to find any issues with the car. Compared to other dealers that I tested drive, this one feels the best and least problem despite having higher mileage. But admit it its a SOP for them to tweak the mileage anyway.

So I decided it was ok. Please note that the dealership is one of the Cahaya group. I read bad review about them and turned sour. After much contemplation I decided to proceed.

Yesterday dealer agreed and brought it to my selected workshop eastcos bukit jalil for pre-purchase inspection. I prepared a list of common problems with e90 and brought it with me (attachment). As much as I worried on major repairs, but it turns out to be common wear and tear problems & accident free. Or mechanic is incompetent to spot all the problems?? Apparently the mileage showed on the diagnostic computer was really 130k, unless they tampered with the electronic as well? lol. Was quoted about 3.5k for the repairs excluding the tire. They confirmed the water pump wasnt damaged, only the thermostat which at least saved me 2.5k for now? Earlier I expected to have more problems than this. I dont have the service record and absolutely no idea on what the previous owner changed on sparepart. But anyway I have allocated 10-15k cash on post-purchase repairs.

Used this to edge the dealership (Good way is to talk to the direct boss instead. The machai all wont even bother to cut RM500) and he agreed to pull down to 63k compensating my repair cost. Right now I am still waiting on my loan status excitedly. Plan to put a 35% DP for 7 years. If cut back to 5 years its fine.

Still one thing that bugs me is that one case reported last time by one of this group of dealer, that they swap out ori parts to broken parts during the waiting period. And after selling, buyer have 1 month warranty, and they basically swapped back the faulty to ori part should they return with problems. After one month, your're on ur own. For my case, the dealership even suggested to me keep the car at that workshop for repairs after he done with B5 and B7 (And keep it there as long as it may need). After when official transfer of ownership, I will hand them the cheque of the car deposit. Then I can drive off the car and bring it back to their place to do polising.etc. One thing to note is I did not pay for any single booking fees. They actually agreed on this and proceeded with my loan applications anyway. I will only pay the deposit when 1) ownership transfer time comes and 2) re-check the status of the car at the workshop. All insurance, puspakom, JPJ fees they will bear for now. Is this normal? I am a cautious person and made it clear to them. I even planning to pitch them I have heard of this case before, but think of it, it is too much. After all, this ride is like one of the cheapest dirt they sell at their shop lol.

Any opinions/experience to share? I still have time to pull the plug

Couldnt get a good deal i guess.. Well anyway, I have already proceeded with the purchase. Right now its sent to the same workshop for fixing. Got the updated quotation and was charged 3.4k best price excluding tire. I guess it should be fine since the dealership waived 2k for the repairs. Lets see how

they let you drive the car without even putting down deposit? wow.
yeah tested 3 times as stated.
Tthey agree to bring to eastcos for pre-purchase inspection. After seeing all are wear and tear problems only then i verbally confirm
Then they proceeded and took my docs for loan application
Then, they did puspakom just recently and brought back the car to eastcos and started repairing already

Today, I went to their office and did the thumbprint JPJ for permanent ownership transfer. And i finally handed my first and full downpayment cheque to them. That also i post dated the cheque. lol. Sounds a little weird that they did not insist to take booking deposit earlier. Maybe that I convinced them too well, or this just a small fly at their showroom. In fact yes, of all the cars there, this is the cheapest. lol

After repairs done, they will bring it to do full servicing / polishing / cushion cleaning, etc and handover to me hopefully by next wed after road tax and insurance is out. Lets see.

Towards the end of the year, used car dealers are now quite desperate to reduce their inventory. Come 2016 January, the same car would depreciate at least 15%.
