FYI:

1. Teflon taping is temporary; it works for a few weeks but after some sun and rain a la chaleur de Malaisie, the noises will slowly but surely return. This is not a permanent solution but....get "gummi pfledge"(translates from german to 'Rubber Care') from Wurth of Germany and aoply it once a month of so on the parts of the door seals that come into contact with the teflon tape.

2. The brackets......I'd like to know who has changed theirs. I have also been given the excuse, feeble as it sounds, "Oh...the dancing lights are normal."

You can get bmw gummi pfledge from AB or Ingress but in a spray can. I've been using for a couple of years now with great success :D

quill

after reading ur adventures at Quill, i think i'd cancel my appointment with them :)
supposed to check my cooling system, under warranty.

any updates on ur problems?

anyone else have problems with Quill? Lately i find Ingress to be real sloppy.

Speaking of buyer expectations, I've experienced some build quality issues with Volkswagen during my time in Australia.

The South African built MK5 Golf GTI that I owned was utterly solid but the Wolfsburg built Golf R32 that came after the GTI had numerous problems - both electronic and mechanical. They were never properly sorted out despite repeated visits to the Melbourne VW dealership. I eventually sold the car on after a year or two along with the niggles and squeeks.

Its the luck of the draw. Sometimes you get a less than perfect car.

actually, being less than perfect and being a car that is not reliable and/or is a Pain in the A** is a HUGE difference. For the amount of money that we pay for a new car, i think we can expect an above average piece of german engineering. Some people say they can live with the idiosyncracies of this brand, but i would choose reliability anytime over performance. I love performance, but not if it means being stranded because the car feels like it, or worse still, being at the mercy of the so called Authorised Dealers Service workshops.
This would be my last bimmer :)

Do you guys actually know if these problems involve CBU, SKD or CKD cars? If the BMW cars in Malaysia have that, this problems but not in the UK, US or other country then who's on fault now? The 3-Series E90 in fact granted the most reliable cars in the UK surpassing the A4 and the C-Class but in Malaysia it seems like it's the most unreliable car ever by the looks of things. The question is now going to BMW Malaysia. Do they even realise, take notice and even take care of these issues or they just ''duduk goyang kaki'' and eat all of our money? If they're not working correctly then they cannot send any good feedback of issues to BMW Germany. So I think the starter of all issues is BMW Malaysia...

Of course I agree with you there but after having undergone two different ownership experiences from a single marque (MK5 Golf GTI = positive | MK5 Golf R32 = negative), as I did buy the Golf R32 solely on the basis of owning a very well built Golf GTI... I'm not so sure I'd be so quick to say that I'll never buy another Volkswagen car. I should mention though that it's build quality issues were not the sort that would leave me stranded by the roadside or detract from the joy of driving the car down Great Ocean road *whew*.

Perhaps its a matter of differing expectations when it comes to certain car makers? The premium one pays on BMW car is far more than what you'd pay for a Volkswagen or a Skoda. However, at the end of the day, no one likes to shell out hard earned money for a defective vehicle (I know of the frustration and disappointment, trust me).

Take for example my current daily driver. I bought my Audi Q5 2.0TFSI in mid 2009 and after a couple of weeks, I discovered that one of the speakers was defective. I brought the car back to Euromobil in Glenmarie and they sorted the issue out under warranty. The car has been faultless since then. I wouldn't say it spoiled my ownership experience but as long as the matter was rectified quickly and to my satisfaction, I'm more than willing to purchase another Audi in the future.

I hope its not a VAG thing hehe since Audi is under the Volkswagen umbrella ;).

Agree fully with you Loki, it's the luck of the draw. My E90 is an SKD (I don't believe they do CKDs here) 2 1/2 years old, and hasn't had a single problem to date. It's definitely the most reliable car I've ever owned, and I've owned dozens of cars, all new. This includes Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, VW, Honda, Toyota, SsangYong, et al. They all had one problem or another, but not my current locally-assembled E90.

It's the luck of the draw.

sure, some niggly problems are expected but if your brand new car starts acting up a few weeks or months and becomes a liability, then i think something's wrong. I suppose for me the definition of a premium brand means that the least we have to worry about when we buy these marques would be 'the luck of the draw'. I guess the QC just isnt up to the mark yet.

i think worldwide, bmw is having its reputation a bit under attack over reliability issues. But overseas, these cars dont cost as much as what we have to pay here, so its a different ball game.

I'm with you on this one even though mine hasn't had any major issues so far. If you actually decide not to buy another bimmer, make sure you make it known to BMW Malaysia and BMW AG. They need to know directly when BMW owners defect because of BMW reliability issues in my opinion.

that's exactly what i thought. If i only paid rm150k for the 325i, i will tolerate the small problems. It's very embarrassing when i tell others what problems my car has.

hi guys,

havin major problem with my brand new 320d , i.e, air cond water leaking causing whole interior to be soaked wet, heavily rusted engine parts & etc.

Car was in AB Gelnmarie SC for 6 weeks with only the air cond problem solved. Paid my first installment without even using my car. No compensation offered.

I've brought up this matter to my lawyers and a lawsuit it being filed against BMW malaysia, since it is a brand new car. Will keep you all updated in new thread in few days time.

I am puzzled. Isnt your car under warranty? I had major issues before with Glenmarie SC. Just do a search on this forum then you'll see the issues over the past year or so that many people had with that branch. I had my new car replaced after an engine replacement on the original car. Did you speak to the General Manager first and try to settle it? A lawsuit might take a long time.
