My fixed 4 times, same spot, changed the valve cover gasket and vacuum pump o-ring many times, while car still under warranty.

Wow, Andrew, u DIY?

astroboy
hope you can help me to understand the leak issue better
  1. what would be the average interval between the failure. about 15k km?
  2. each time they replace the gasket, o-ring, etc the warranty is also extended on those parts?
  3. what are the reasons only N46 engine is having this problem whilst the 325 is not

1. Was told its due to workmanship or material failure under manufacturer's defect. I am suspecting due to design of the part, not mileage, or at least not within warranty period. If the thing survive 2 years, it should continue to survive. Mine fail in less than 2 years and keep failing due to either wrongly diagnose the leak source or improper fittings [workmanship like screw not torqued].

2. Yes.. all parts replaced my the authorised SC comes with 2 years warranty.

3. I have no idea and don't bother to find out because as long as it fail within 2 years, I can keep returning to SC and get it fix FOC. I am suspecting something to do with the vacuum pump internal O-ring which SC fail to diagnose initially. That why my car had to return 4 times.

I called the SA yesterday and they seem to be fully aware of the issue and know what need to be done. However, i didnt get the part that they had to do the test to ensure where the leak is...

guys...my prob is exactly the same as AB...changed gasket cover once, vacuum pump twice and O ring twice, still the leak continues. AB, could it be the same batch of cars we got that has this prob? Mine Sep07...anyway, i've given up and lost faith with BMW. Despite me complaining all the way to BMW Malaysia and they sending in their technicians, the prob cant be fixed...

One more bad thing about leaking vacuum pump is....your brake pedal become very stiff (brake servo vacuum leaks out). Happened to me while driving, my brake suddenly "keras"! Literally was standing on the pedal to stop the car

Wah! That's even worst than the own self pedaling Prius  Tekan no brake! eeekkkkkkkk!!

I seldom brake, so hardly notice.. I usually watch out for celah2 to weave before deciding to brake.. :p

Yup.. many story la. Valve cover gasket la, valve cover gasket screws not torqued properly la, vacuum pump oil seal la, vacuum pump inner O-ring la, and last they say if jadi lagi, I get new vacuum pump.. but so far so good wor.. after the 4th time..

Since u are at it, do check your oil sump gasket as well. Can peep from the top, look into the bottom of the crank pulley. Mine pun tukar before, under warranty and huge job. Entire bottom assembly need to drop to make way to oil sump access!! Now damp lagi!!

Interesting car!

hey nickyow....I know what you mean by giving up!!! all these probs happening to your 2007 batches....gosh I wonder what my 2005 batch will further bring me....as it is it is already going to sit in the workshop for the next 2 weeks waiting for parts to arrive...."electric steering malfunction - details in my post"....stress perhaps I should stop reading all these posts in this forum...having sleepless nights!

Dear Megatnh, as most of the beemers (E21-320i, E28-520i, E39-525i - my parents) and I (E90 320i 2.2 JDM) owned are not purchased from any of the authorised dealers here in Malaysia so I have always sent repairs to my old time mechanic Ah Yau at Bamboo Garden jln ipoh. Recently I replaced my gear oil sump and O ring etc. and so far so good and very reasonable price. But then if your car stil has a good service history and particular abt where you send your repairs then I suggest stick to where you are a regular...my 2 sen worth

Hi
My car is still under the warranty and logically I ll be sending it to the authorized dealer. Interestingly, each dealer has different quality of services ..that's why I asked.
Anyways it's good to know the other place to go to outside of the authorized dealer to get the bimmer taken care of

Hi Astro :)

Sometimes i DIY , sometimes i pay to play , .. it depends on how brave i feel ;)

Hi Everyone, need some help. Recently i notice there is some oil leak near where we pour our engine oil on the silver metal. what is the problem? Fyi, i just bought this car (second hand E90 320 with 62K mileage with full service history with AB) should i sent to AB or do it outside?

Hi Bg22g22,

Mine E90 320 2007, clocked at 78K km, oso having the same problem as u. According to previous post whr most of the sifus here mentioned, its normal for our N46 engines. For mine, its not at a disturbing stage now. Later, if cannot tahan the leakage anymore will probably sent to workshop outside. i am oso quite new to the car. Now still surveying around for a reliable and honest workshop.

Hi Cslau, thanks for the reply. I read and I knew, this is common to our N46 engine but just cannot tahan to see the leaks lah. Btw, did u purchase brand new or second hand? Also, please let me know once u find the reliable and honest workshop ok.

How about other Sifus here.... your comment please.... thanks

Hi , i think you may need to change the item numbered "2"

Cylinder head cover - BMW parts catalog

Part nr 11 12 0 032 224

Br Andrew

The gasket should set u back about RM200. Comes in a set of 2, one big one small. Notice the small square gasket where the valvetronic motor poke thru.. :D
