Could be. Then why use VPower at 35 sen/km to crawl in traffic jams?

On VPower I can get 8.2 km/l, but then my lifetime average speed is 48.3kmh. I go into KL city centre maybe once every few months? :D

When u pamper your kids, even though they can't finish their milk every night, you still prepare them with the most expensive formulas available on the shelf. :D

Wow! I notice you are picking up in speed... moving from an high 30s average to now, near 50!! and its lifetime average!! u are lifting your first 2 years' averages! Amazing!! Living in Klang valley and manage an average speed of 48kph.. quite unbelievable if u ask me.. :stupid:

So now since VPower is RM2.43/L.. still economical compare to RON97 or RON95? What's the breakeven price actually to stay using VPower? :D

No AB, my lifetime av has always been in the high 40s from the start. As I said before, I make an effort to avoid traffic jams - it can be done if you try.

I'm still running my 3 consecutive tankfulls test of the 3 fuels. Will post the results when completed. VPower is RM2.43 now kah?

Yeah lo..he avoids Bangsar cos that Jln Maarof road traffic lights is intolerable.
Someone once told me, to ride on Jln Maarof, you need to be driving at 70km/h constant n u will hit green at every traffic light

Yes that is possible! :top:

I used to work along there, and I could easily make 70km/h constantly. Those were the days.... now crawling around to city centre... averaging

I don't avoid Bangsar, I just know the lighter roads to use. Eg, avoid Maarof by using Jln Ara, and you can still get into Telawi from the back, not from the McD.

323i here.

RM100 goes for 400km+- city driving.

RM100 goes for 500km+- which I tried driving to KL -> Malacca -> KL.

Had a meeting in KL today. Left early from Lumut to try and see what's the best range I can get in the 323 with a full tank of gas. Filled with RON95 Shell. Driving at 80 in 60 km/h zone, 100 at 90 zone and 120 on the PLUS highway. Acceleration bursts to overtake lorries on the trunk road. Route taken is trunk road from Lumut to Teluk Intan to Bidor, then onto PLUS and stopped at the Sungai Buloh R&R to measure the range.

Travel condition: Left Lumut at 10:30AM. Day was sunny throughout the journey. Traffic was quite smooth, although quite a number of trucks on the trunk road.

Results:

Distance traveled 221.9 km
Range with fuel remaining = 623 km
Therefore, total range is 844.9 km. Average FC is 7.9 ltr/100 km.
Fuel meter went down exactly by 1/4.

Quite good actually!:top: I think if I actually followed the speed limit, could get 900 km range, which is close to what one could get from a diesel.

Anyway, on the way back from KL, drove 'normally'!

Any of you guys did this sort of experiment before?

Had a meeting in Ipoh last week. Had ample time to reach there so i decided to perform an "economy" drive to see how good the consumption.

Tank all full and reset the consumption on the OBC just before Duta Tol.

10 minutes into the hiway, the reading showing 7.9 l/100km. I was tailing a W124 merc at around 140kmh at the most.

Suddenly there was a Hyundai Matrix coming up fast on the rear view mirror and getting too close to my tail. Then i notice a mazda 6 is the one putting the pressure.

Mazda 6, 2.5 v6 - this could be interesting I thought.
But the mazda has little patience, so he overtook on the left middle lane. Aaaah... S'pore number plate...

But the mazda didn't get very far and stucked behind some car ahead.

Then the traffic started to clear up and I was right behind him, but not too close to intimidate him.
And there was no v6 badge!!! Must be a 2.0cc. :-(

So i shifted from D to DS. :)

After he overtook a few cars and notice the gap has not extended, the mazda shifted to the left, incidentally a fast corner is fast approaching. Kept my speed (170 think) as he lifted his throttle.

The next straight I was stuck behind some car doing 130+ and the mazda got his chance to tailgate closely. This mazda is very ambitious...what is he trying to do?

The car in front then steered to the left lane and the road was clear.
And the answer from the Mazda was very, very bad! As if like no answer at all.
I expected slightly better.

By this time, my economy drive was already out of the window and by the time i reached Ipoh, the tank was half full.

Economy drive is just difficult....

Just did a day-trip to Sg Petani on business. Started my Journey Computer at the start of each journey to see the pure highway consumption for a 325i Sports.

Going up, with the needle hovering around 140-150kmh, the JC recorded an av speed of 124.0 kmh and FC of 9.7 l/100km. Coming back, the needle was hovering around 120-130kmh, and the av speed was 116.3 kmh and FC was 9.1 l/100km. Quite a big difference 20 kmh makes to FC, huh?

Haha! U should try 86kph, FC should be about 6.8l/100km.. :top:

Its nice that most of your models have OBC, my 2003 318 tadak.. But for fuel comsumption - I get the following

100% city driving with RON97 : 7km/l (14.2L/100km)
100% highway driving with cruise : 12.2km/l (8.2L/100km)

I find the car ok for highway driving but kinda underpower for city driving...btw - this fuel figures are almost the same as my old 1.6 Waja :p

Any car can get phenomenally good FC if driven slowly and lightly, so it doesn't really say anything to me. I'm only interested in my FC under my normal driving habits. The surprise to me was the gap in FC with just dropping ~20kmh in speed, which was natural as it was a pitch black night and it had been a loooong day.

It has been proven that the terminal velocity to push the car with minimal effort to achieve best FC is 86kph, no more no less. Anything more, you will be burning extra fuel to fight oncoming air resistance rather than moving the car. The fuel burn over extra kph achieved ratio goes up tremendously the faster u travel above the optimum 86kph, regardless of car design or engine capacity.

may I add:
86kph best FC is based on average final gear ratio, coefficient of drag, and factor out tailwind or headwind.
At 400km/h, air resistance is 16x compare to speed at 100km/h.

Drag = (p/2) x A x Cd x V^2

Updates:

I did a test with my E90 last weekend to perform "Cuci Kubur" ritual in Tg. Tualang, without my wife a.k.a. speed limiter.. :p

Car: E90 320i N46B20
Fuel: RON95 Shell
Time: 5am
Load: Me, my 75 year old father, and my 11 year old son, 3 generations in the car.. :p

First 120km on PLUS until Tapah turn off, average speed 158.9kph, FC = 8.8L/100km.

On the way back, only me and my son in the car, took the old nostalgic trunk road from Temoh till KL. After reach home, mileage travelled as 356km, FC = 10.3L/100km, average speed = 90.3kph.

Overtaking on the old trunk roads was fun (at least 3 oncoming cars flashed at me :p), especially the Serendah sections.. Only complain was too many yellow slow down marker on the road and some sections, pretty bad with random patches everywhere. Occasional 120kph~140kph whenever possible and the beating on my suspension from those uneven patches was real punishment, bone shattering to the car.. :(

Some photos from the road trip:

A visit to where I used to stay.

Important to note that drag is directly related to the square of velocity. Thus, drag increases exponentially with speed.

hi bro & sis here, why my FC shown only 2L/100km, izzit something wrong wrong with my meter? bcoz i can see most of yours is more then 7L/100km.

Maybe its supposed to be 12 L/100km and your "1" is not showing up.

Hehe.. if 2L/100km, our tank is 63L, that gives u (63/2)x100 =3,150km/tank :D :D
