hi guys,i was just wondering if any of u guys know the cost to maintain a Range rover compared to a BMW. i'm looking around for a BMW but with the heavy rain and the urban floods nowadays i was thinking about buying an urban full size 4X4. was looking at the price of the Range rovers and its quite affordable. don't know what model it is but its the 97 onwards ones which is around 75-80k. the X5's are damn expensive!!from what i know, BMW and Range rover are under the same roof rite? so from what i gather, they should share parts too. any sifus out there can advise???? thanks. can't find any forums that talk about the Range Rovers in Malaysia.

BMW is cheeper to maintain if you compare with the range, but if you want to do serioues off road than range is the way to go. The 97 range is comlete diffrent than the X5

BMW sell underwear to maintain.....

Range Rover sell bekside to maintain......dun playplay. my friend ended up in chowkit rd.

so choose your poison. basically u need money to maintain both makes. if u want trouble free, pls buy a iswara and drive happily in the wind :)

yucks!!!

ramsing not wearin' any undies.....

rain & floods? best bet would be a boat.....

BMW is cheaper though it is also Banyak Makan Wang, Banyak Masuk Workshop etc.....

nasib or pure luck...

so i presume that the range is a no no..... i thought that since i'm already committed to up keep a BMW, just wanted to do some research on the range rover!!!! and how much it cost to maintain one.

old school gentleman ride..

someone told me that the cost to maintain a range and a bmw is around the same:bird: Can't remember who though.......

Why not consider getting the diesel 4X4 pick-up trucks... i.e. Ranger, Storm, etc... more suited to wetter conditions.

no lah!
have u tried sitting at the back seat of a ranger or any pick up 4x4! it damn bumpy and behind no leg space. at least with the range with is a full size 4x4 it is a more comfortable.

Rangie if it still has the hydraulic suspension then it will be a headache and it cost a lot of money. My friend sold his 97 twin pipe rangie this week. On average he spent about RM20k a yr for maintenance. Of course all the maintenance was done by Land Rover.

My friend owns a range rover 1998 and he is complaining about the high maintenance. It is killing man. It's better to own a bmw. No way that the cost to maintain a range and bmw is around the same. Look at the other way round... BMW = Banyak Masuk Wang when you own it :)

Actually i heard that to maintain a range is high. i didn't know it was that high that BMW owners themselves are saying its high. man!!!!!!!

don't think there is much other cars out there that can beat that except the exotic cars from Italy and Europe..

I don't think 97-98 range rovers shared parts with bmw. Rangies are really expensive to maintain... top-of-the-line 4.0/4.6HSE will drink fuel like fish, whereas the 2.5 diesels are really slow and low spec. Most of the interiors are really "plasticky" by today's standards.

The V8s were really previous-generation with not much output given their capacity and consumption. The reason for all of that was really centred around the state of the company itself during the time those cars were designed/manufactured...

A good 4x4 will be 2000 Pajero or year 2000 Toyota Prado both are nice 4x4 to own..

Hi Bro,
Let me tell u….Land Rover maintenance even far far more expensive than BMW.

Most of the time, the thing that need to be replace is very stupid….eg, I have to replace the air filter box (NOT the air filter) like every 3 years because the bracket just tak tahan the spring that keep the air filter box shut…

Every 1 – 2 year, I have to replace the petrol hose because the nut leak….You just cannot replace that section, you have to replace the the whole pipe !!

I have Land Rover Discover Yr 03..and kinda fedup. Thinking of getting x3 or better x5 !

Range rover 97 use BMW engine. This model use air suspension developed by BAE (British Aerospace). Most of the owner that I know, they change to coil suspension. Handling not as good as air suspension...The air suspension just cannot tahan with our hot dusty air and very bad road.

hi bro,

it's just about what i think.
if for me i think i'll go for BMW.
not say the range rover are not good but abit costly to maintain...
my bro own a 1995 discovery, 1996 range rover and 2005 freelander.
every year must have a big problem coming out...
most of the time more than 5k...and sometimes 14k, 15k and the last time i saw the bill fax to my office from land rover was 24k! 24k man....! i nampak pun mau pensang sudahhhh. it was from the freelander...but luckly it's still under warranty.
but how if no more warranty???
it's just mu opinion...if you want to buy 4x4 i think you should go for Toyota!
if saloon car you should go for BMWwWwWwW............!
