Hi All,I am trying to arrange for Bernard of BVO Singapore ( http://bvoauto.tripod.com/id8.html ) to come up to KL for ECU Remapping. He informed me that he is willing to make the trip up if there are at least 5 cars for him to do. I've not got a price indication yet but I reckon the more cars we get the cheaper it will be. I visited projek euro tuning website http://www.projekteurotuning.com/E39/q?cid=295&doit=showclass ) and they charge about RM2,300 for this. Obviously, I am expecting Bernard to charge much less than this. So guys anyone interested please leave your details here so I can make the arrangements.1. Realred, how many more horses and torque do you expect to get from the remap for your 530i?

Mine's an 02 520i 2.2 and will certainly join your group buy if it makes a difference to the drive. Anybody's remapped a 520i 2.2?

Hi bro, check on the previous thread regarding this. Few M54 520i remapped before.

Bro,

Expecting about 5% increase. But what I was informed by a member who PM me the following:-

• The car felt lighter (the original mass is 1570kg), give you a feeling like driving a much smaller car like a 3 series
• Better throttle response smoother engine responses!
• Better pulling power and instant surge upon kick-down
• Even at 140kph, kick-down will pull all the way to redline
• Smoother idling and also at cruising speed
• Now, the best part.........I have been monitoring the fuel consumption and it improved! From the average 8.5km per litre to close to 9km per litre despite harder acceleration these days which really surprise me! Believe it or not?
• Overall driveability improved

Bro,

Will check whether they do diesel engines.

Nope. I am doing some research on the net and seem to only get positive comments on ECU tuning or remapping.

What about engine temperature?

Hi Realred,

I have heard that flashing a 'stock' car ECU is not recommended as it 'overwrite' the original setting. Hence it erases the optimum setting for ur car set by BMW themselves.
It is otherwise fine if your car has been modified before.(eg. change of intake/exhaust system).
Hence, a piggyback is recommended if you own a stock car. A piggyback will have the option to switch back-forth between the new setting and the original settings.

Anyone has experience on these two option before?

You are correct, when u flash the ECU you are actually erasing all data from the original ECU and putting in a new programme...normally they will save ur original ECU setting into a thumbdrive/CD so that you can reflash back to original settings if need be... anyway they will only tweak certain perimeters only and not evrything... ..but piggyback is just tricking/bypassing the original ECU but the BMW ECU is very smart and after it finds out that its being tricked it overrides the piggyback settings..
I may be wrong but this is what I was made to understand.

Realred,
XXX is correct, ECU remap is reversible. This means, if you are not happy with the new mapping, you could install the original one back. You need to be realistic on the ECU remap outcome as this will improve about 10-15% of the bhp and torque for NA engines. For turbo engines, the improvement is significant at least 20-25%
