Hi guys.. Just need some answers/opinions.. My E90 is 4 years old.. 3 weeks back, the engile oil indicator came on.. Went to the specialist to get it checked out.. When they drained it, it was only 2 1/2 L.. So went with the normal service.. Change oil etc.. Few days back, the indicator came on again.. Went to send it back and when they drained the engine, engine oil was.. Surprisingly 2 1/2 L! Anybody have this problem?? The guy said that engine already "makan minyak" and needs overhauling.. :(

Need some opinions or related stories... Or 2nd opinions.. Im about to lose some serious moolahs here!

Thanks in advance

There can be various reasons why the engine oil will leak, it could be a leak somewhere and perhaps the engine oil might even leak into the combustion area. Do you notice any visible white smoke from the tailpipe as well?

Dear Guys/Girls
My E90 absorbers producing snake hissing sound psssst psssstt when going thru speed bump, is this mean the absorber needs replacement.?
Should i replaced them with original abs or other branded abs like bilstein? A workshop qoute me rm500/piece ori abs.
Thanks

Guys, this thread is to share maintenance parts and labor done to your car to collectively build a database of maintenance cost and workshop info.

Please do not use this as a discussion thread because it will make this thread like rojak and difficult to serve its intended purpose.

All good absorber produces some sort of hissing sound.. please Google search first before asking.

Thank you.

Just DIY my air filter and micro filter. Got my parts from Eng Soon Pte Ltd and I must say even with the high exchange rate, it's still worth it to get from there. Maybe not a special trip down but if on the way/by the way, it definitely worth it. It's like a candy shop to me.

Air filter sgd16, micro filter sgd26. Both non original but oem, especially the air filter which is the same brand as the one I took out MANH.

Got a nice Crome silencer for sgd80 and well as original spark plugs for sgd20 each.

Thanks to Astroboy's DIY guide, it was a cheap fix.

the e90 led tail turn lights flickers and the turn light failure indicator comes on everytime this happened. i went to topspeed and the guy asked me to change the whole cluster (which i find very annoying). i read in this forum and some others that this is a frequent compain for e90. any bros here where to get the few led lights changed? thanks ya...

Bro Yoko9798,

Have you got the breakdown of the prices above? Btw can our E90 323i with less than 20k km mileage use 5W/40 oil?

Thanks

Bro Scissorhand,

To my knowledge, the BMW brand of engine oil (Long Life -98) is also 5W/40, thus I do not see why we cannot use other respected brand such as Petronas or Ravenol. In fact in some cases, to avoid the evaporation of thinner type of engine oil, some of the mechanics would propose higher thickness of engine oil such as the 10W.

As for the breakdown, it is as below:

1) Engine oil - 6+ L = RM330
2) Bulb = RM48
3) BMW Original Filter = RM 30
4) Labor = RM 45
5) Diagnostic after service = FREE

Discount RM3 :)

Hope the above helps.

BMW LL-98 standard was developed before Valvetronic engine is introduced. BMW LL-01 is formulated for BMW engines with Valvetronic system while BMW LL-04 are formulated for both petrol and diesel engines.

All BMW SC today uses 5w-30, more fuel efficient, better heat dissemination, more responsive engine, but lesser engine wear protection compared to 5w-40.

AB,

What LL stands for? Leng lui ka?

Hi bro
In malaysia its true and recomended for us to
Change the oil every 10k but in western when temprature is cold it is 25k

Our fuel rich with sulfur and during combustion.. it oxidized and turn sulfuric acid. When it mix with engine oil, it promotes the formation of sludge.. like cholesterol in our body.. :4:

Vios where got 5w-30? UMWT only carry 5w-40 lar. My Avanza been using since day 1.

Please keep this thread tidy because it's meant to be a parts and maintenance register to benefit all. Not suitable for discussion. Don't make it a rojak.

Thanks.
