Until now cant find the faulty y d aux fan isnt turned on although the aircon is on n the temp reaches the center..

Hope anyone here can help

Thanks in adv

Just replaced the ignition coil #3. Got it replaced at my usual mech at PJ taman Mayang (not BMW mech) and bought the coil from Bomin for RM115.

I also replaced all my 6 spark plugs(RM25x6=RM150) and oil+filter change (RM180+22).

Labour was RM170 all in.

Summary:
1)Ignition coil: Rm115
2)Spark plugs 6xRM25=Rm150
3)Engine oil=RM180 (7liters semi-synth german oil)
4)Oil filter bosch:RM22
5)Labour=RM170

Total damage today was RM717.

Cheers

Usually when 1 ignition coil failed, the other 5 remaining coils will follow soon. So be prepared.

next time it happens I think i know how to DIY. Not that difficult to replace myself.

oh forgot to add RM80 to diagnose and reset all the error messages.

Buy your own scanner (RM240) and save RM80.00 for each and every diagnose.

Based on my limited knowledge (pls correct me if i am wrong) :

1. If temp gauge is at centre than it is at normal operating temp ~ 80C.

2. For M52, the aux fan normally run at low speed when you turn on the AC (triggered by AC control unit). You may need to stand in front of the car and get someone else to switch the AC on/off to see if the fan is activated or not as it may not be obvious when the fan is running at low speed.

3. It only switches to high speed (very noisy) when the engine temp (controlled by a switch attached to right hand side of the radiator.) or the AC pressure (triggered by AC control unit) gets too high.

My aux fan used to frequently run at high speed whenever my car is stationary. After replacing my fan clutch, I seldom hear it anymore. So if you aux fan is not noisy, it is actually a good thing.

Problem fixed, but its like the aux fan is turned on as soon as i turned on the key.. N theres a krek krek sound with the aux fan.. I thought it will not turned on if the temp is cool?
:-(

bro, cars do break down.no issues..Regarding yr hunt, most problems should be identified before buying the car..estimate the repair cost, bargain the price, spend a little more initially on the faulty parts, but the joy is yours then...i have been using e39 happily for about 2 years and (touch wood) no major issues so far..wear and tear tu kes biasalah bro...hope this helps..cheers

thanks bro JFT63.. yup, about identifying the problems, what should i look at the car when buying? i dont mind bout the wear n tear parts. just the major breakdowns like failed engine or transmission is what bothering me the most.. hopefully this would be a joy for me.. thanks!

Get it diagnosed by reputable mechanic, the computer should be able to tell u the faulty codes..BMw engines are very reliable, some technicalities will avail but the software tool shall help to troubleshoot the kaput sensors..Be wary if there is a jerk in the transmission..upshift, downshift etc..let yr honest mech test drive and listen to his comments..

compressor 523i

guys,

anyone know what is the root cause for the compressor defect?
how long it will last if just recondition the current compressor?
or replace with the new one is preferable?
and how we want to know that the cooling coil is still good?

*just want to prepare myself before heading down to naidu and facing the nighmare..seeing my dashboard been stripped naked..:102:

It's cooling coil problem when you need to keep topping up the air-cond gas every few weeks. If the cooling coil is in good order, then it's the compressor. I suggest, you pay Naidu a visit as he is able to establish whether it's compressor or cooling coil. Yes, it'll breaks your heart to see the entire dashboard stripped naked. You will feel better to just drop off the car and come back in the evening as what you "don't see, doesn't hurt" :)

speeding at constant speed about 180-200kmh last weekend, and suddenly smoke coming out from the centre air outlet and the cold air was gone...but the blower still work and of course just blowing the hot air from outside...i tried to switch off the ac but didnt work..it automatically turned on by itself every time...

so i suspect that either the gas was low or the sensor became crazy...so i went to denso service centre and try to refill the gas...but found that my compressor kaputt already...got leaking when they tested it with water...and sooner will leak my pocket as well:40:

After spending whole day at naidu today, here comes the bills:

Receiver dryer/switch: rm 165
compressor (denso): rm 1430
Power Steering oil : rm 30
Top up compressor oil gas: rm 80
1 set oring: rm 20
condenser (behr) : rm 790
labour : rm 150

Total pain = RM2665

Feel so tired and now wanna go home...take my wife for a ride to show her that my car is not a "mobile sauna" anymore:top:

Car developed a weird squeaking noise about a week ago. The noise would start once the car's brakes had been used a few times and got louder the longer the car was driven.

Had Ah Wai's boys check inspect the car and turns out the brake disc was warped and deeply scratched from worn out pads.

Changed the brake pads (4 wheels), brake discs (front only) and brake sensors. Also took the opportunity to flush the brake fluid and replace it with new fluid.

Total with workmanship came up to RM1650.
