Maintenance cost for 4 years old E60

Depends on the car. I bought my 2004 Jap-spec 530 back in Feb (mileage 16,000km). So far had problems with the alternator and ignition coil, but those were replaced FOC as still during warranty period. Since then, I have had just one regular service (after warranty period), which cost me around RM500 I think. I also chose to change spark plugs at around RM400.

25,000km doesn't just apply to the E60 but to most modern bimmers. I have never tested that limit though. I always change at 10,000km (for my E46). But I do low mileage so takes me about 10 months to reach that mark.

But in general, I would say that given the premium of a BMW, the service is relatively acceptable. Yes, even a small part can cost 4 figures, maybe even 5, but for that to happen would be real bad luck on your side. Normal wear and tear parts are no different than any other premium marque.

i think the mileage is rather hi for a 04 model.. keep scouting for a good one.. you for sure will find one good!!

and like ezain mentioned.. better by new one with 3 years waranty!.. hehe

Hi Guys,

Just sharing, I bought my 525i 04', since got car from May 2008 till now, spent estimate of 14k for maintenance and repair and 6k for sport rims and tyres.

Changed most of the wear and tear parts, lower arm bar, water pump, fuel pump, water host, all fluids, active steering (which cost 7k)...etc.

Car is as good as new :) I bought mine @ RM 240k +/- a new 525 cost approx 350k, actually its still much more cheaper compare buying a new car.

Cheers!

fuh! i cannot imagine having this car...salary 20K a month would be still not enough to maintain this car....

Glock_8,good point..

it all depends on ur luck really.if u do get a good example,u'll probably be spending just for the reg maintainance which normally comes to about rm500.now,while BMW states 25k kms for the normal service interval,u'll find that most people would do it at 10-15k kms interval.this is due to our tropical climate where the air is hot and humid and the atmosphere being full of smoke, dust and haze what with us being a developing country.that is a given..

so if nothing goes wrong, this is what u will be spending on,essentially.if u were to get a 3-4yr old jap-spec car,i'd suggest u change the battery and have a good look at the alternator cuz these two items are known to fail on a lot of these cars especially jap-spec ones.this in turn might also spoil the ignition coils.so to avois additional costs and heartache,i'd have a serious look at these items.

another thing is to look at the tyres.these are without doubt the most important part of the car.buying a recond car,the tyres more often than not will be pretty old and of a type not normally fitted to the car as importers try to skimp on anything they can.so have a serious look..

in the end tho, given that everything goes right, the e60 can be a fantastic car to own.it drives wonderfully, the ride is fantastic, the NVH is exceptional.but when u get a lemon, its hell on earth..so get a proper BMW mech to have a thorough look at a car that u're interested in and leave no stone unturned.if anything is amiss, turn around and walk away..there are too many crooks out there.

been sending all my BMWs past and present to Bestness(ara damansara)for regular maint'work and Abg Mat(glenmarie)for troubleshooting..but this all depends la,whichever suits u personally.only way to find out is to send ur car to them and experience the service given firsthand.of course u'd get recommendations first la.. goood luck bro.

allow me to add some comments....

i did my bit in reseaching for a reasonable used e60, after checking a couple of dealers ,
i reckon it would probably a good idea to get those pre owned cars from the authorised dealers..got my recently, tip top condition, they did the whole diagnostic , ensure the whole record are proper and even sent to carnuba spa. the condition of the car is superb not a single strtch mark.

all this and a six month warranty ..sort of put my mind at ease. hmm...and a free wingard tint too.

523i 2005 for rm220k. what do reckon guys?

i did take a e60 2004 520i into consideration for rm180k however, with the differents of 40k , lower mileledge at below 70k, better engine magnesium ,a year younger, and the warranty part sort of put it a good deal..

juz my two cent

did you negotiate the price or that is their listed price? reason being, i did visit their showroom and the approved used car they;'re selling are really expansive...mind share ur bargain skill...hehehe

That is quite premature failure for a car that clocked 16k km....even proton parts can last longer than that....

to come extent, I agree that getting BMW from authorised dealer will make you at ease... at least they do diagnostic and check everything for you before selling... and in your case, free spa and tinting.. coupled with 6-month warranty.. who don't wanna buy??

But then... also consider other AP importers as well. Some of them have been in existence for long time.. and if they don't provide that kind of service, do you think that they manage to last all these years???
I've bought my E60 525 Japanese specs (Magnesium engine) from Beemers PJ (Jln University) and even though they provide just one month warranty on the engine plus gear box only, I have faith in them... they have shown professionalism from the beginning when I was looking at the car until I purchased it. The salesguy even showed me the workshop where his company sent all the cars to be serviced before the key handover to the customer...
The thing is.. not to condemn any company here... some of them actually buy a whole batch of car from auction company... such as Naza and other big importers... do you think that they actually have time to screen each car one-by-one? In this case, there is possibility to have some lemons inside every batch.
of course.. this is IMHO!

normally it's only one (1) month... but it depends on each importer... Naza gives 1 year though :D

3. MAF RM2500/unit
4. Air cond compressor RM5000/unit
5. Transmission oil RM1500
6. Front Rotor + brake shoe = RM1700
7. Micro Filter RM250/each
8. Diesel high pressure pump discount price = RM3500 (got cheated - the mechanic did not change at all but claimed, I waxed this mechanic upside down)
9. Engine overhaul RM21,000 (engine jammed during flooding)
10. Tyre ( 4 x 19") = RM5000/set
11. Wiper blade RM140/set
12. Turbo retrofit RM1200, if brand new RM8000
