hello guys,i've just put down a downpayment for a supercharged e39 528i CBU, still awaiting for my loan and finances to clear before taking over the car from the present owner. have the car checked by autobavaria and they say the car is good. from the records the owner provided, the car comes with full service history from day 1 it rolls off the ship. every wear and tear parts like the belts, bushes, absorbers, and cooling system were replaced within a year ago. the car was just serviced a month back with new mobil1 oil, new automatic fluids and filters. would there be any changes in the service maintenance routine of the car such as this with a heavily modified high performance engine and supercharger? i tried asking the owner on his service routine and he mention its just like normal

congrats on the buy. good car with very good hp. but u have a VERY big problem now. after this E39, not many other cars will be able to match it in terms of comfort and performance. :D

s/c cars are basically NA cars, with a s/c bolted on. other than the s/c itself, everything else is as per it is. only thing with gear driven s/c's is that it sometimes has a tendency to start leaking oil. so u have to watch out for that.

otherwise, don't drive too fast...give chance to the rest of us :D

You Are In Trouble, Cause You Wont Be Able To Find Other Car Better Than E39 ~~~~Untill You Find Another E39 M5~~~

Congratulation!

SuperCharged cars are basiically NA cars?
Other than SuperCharger itself, everything else is as per it is ?
SuperCharger sometimes has tendency to start leaking oil ?

No offence, but do you know how supercharger work ? What is Air-Fuel Ratio ? and Engine compression ?
If "everything else is as per it is" besides the SuperCharger.... good luck with the car

yes i know what is a/f ratio and engine compression. but for bmw's, usually the s/c kits are bolt on, bolt off. then u load a new map to compensate for the s/c. unless the CR has been lowered, then its a different story. and the newer CF s/c's are gear driven, hence u need oil to lube the gears. and it usually leaks in a few common places, near the dipstick and the bolt.
but of coz i'm a newbie in this area, lucky got sifu's like u around to share the knowledge :listen:

Congratulation, you are the lucky one, that is probably the best E39 you can ever dream of without burning your pocket off on M5, please dont drive too fast or else we will just have to smell your smoke only..

Before the senior come in to shot you, please go to the newbie for Self Introduction.

Happy Driving... and Safe!

hey guys , thanks for the kind advise. will remember that,.

ramsing, can you enlighten me on the area of oil leaks again? where is the dipstick and bolt you mention? will have to check it out when i get the car.

So long as the car has no issues with its DME and EGS parameters, you should be okay.

thanks leforte, i will keep that in mind.

just checked with the current owner of the car, he told me the car's DME and EGS has been retuned with a supercharger's specific performance tuning, so if possible, never let any local workshops or mechanics do any resetting or coding on the DME and EGS. he mentioned a few workshops that are very trigger happy on the full reset button of the diagnostic computer, so i am staying clear off them.

i'm not a user of oil fed s/c's, so i cant enlighten much. just do a search on some of the US based BMW forums, and u'll get tons of info + pictures.
but it really depends on your kit, some are fine, some leak like monsoon. and its kinda easy to spot the leaks. usually there is one joint at the dipstick, which is the stick u check the oil level in your engine. then there's the bolt at the s/c itself which might leak.
what model is your s/c?
cheers.

thanks ramsing for ya input.

honestly, i am not sure what supercharger model or brand is in the car. the owner just told me its a european supercharger system. overall, the engine bay is super neat, clean and black. no dirt or oil anywhere like those showcars you see in KLIMs autoshow. the supercharger was originally in a raw aluminum colour but he hated the sight of it so he took it all out again and send it for black ceramic coating, now the supercharger just look like its naturally there from the bmw factory.

maybe its an ESS unit. u might want to ask the owner for the model/make and u go check it out on the net. its good to know which model you have, for future maintenance and modifications :D
