Oh right it was RM250 indeed, my bad.

New original BMW alternator in Bosch box - RM1180

Labour - RM150

Total RM1330 duit raya to the workshop Jackson's Conversions Sungai Petani.

Bro,where is this workshop located at? I plan install my power window regulator change which I bought earlier at MK Kepong. Are they familiar with E39 electrics?

Cheers

Across the road from Sek Men Che Tom. You'll see a big BMW sign as you pass from South SP Tesco. He'll be open on Thursday, 2 days holiday for raya.

I'd say he is very well versed with any BMWs, from my observation and conversation with him. He has Autologic in his workshop and does troubleshooting for BMW Penang.

When are you planning to go? I need to go back to his workshop, to give him back a BMW battery he lend me yesterday. Maybe can go together?

Fuel Pump float

Today my car broke down right at the middle of Jalan Duta during peak hours! Luckily I managed to glide downhill just before the Indian High Comm where they are building the new Istana Negara new access road. So I parked just at the flyover entrance which is still closed to traffic. And boy it started to rain right after. Cut the the story short, called my regular tow truck which had to call another friend who has a flat-bed truck. He opined that BMWs are better towed using flat-bed truck.

Anyway the tow truck cost me RM150. And towed to Obermaier Jalan Ipoh just to gauge how much they would charge.

Lucky for me only the wiring attached to the right tank float snapped not the fuel pump itself. Obviously someone had soldered it and it was not the 1st time job. Cheaper solution was to resolder it back but if could be dangerous as it involves flammable liquid and combustion.

That last job was shoddy as it was soldered on a past solder joint. Accident awaiting to happen. It could have created a spark and that would spell a disaster for me. So I changed the whole new float mechanism. Better be safe than sorry.

The pump alone would cost me RM1250 according to Bomin. The float mechanism was RM355 by Bomin but Obermaier charged me RM365.

So total damages:
Towing: RM150
Float mechanism: RM365
Labour: RM160 which I found was very steep.

My regular non-BMW specialist would probably charge me RM50 or less. Well desperate times was an opportunity to perhaps squeeze more even tho the lady at Obermaier vehemently lamented that this is the standard labour charge they charge for a regular customer. No discount whatsoever.

Looked like an easy job and the mech at Obermaier only took like 1 hr (remove the clips and off went the seat bench) and you can see the whole float and fuel pump after removing 3 philip screws around the round cover. Sorry no pics as it was wet and my phone batt was low.

That's all folks. and of course half a day gone as all in was done at 12pm sharp (most of the time awaiting for the tow truck).

I havent had this issue before...fingers crossed that it wont happen when it's fully loaded with my family..or better change them before it's too late..thanks for sharing bro

Bro Zib, glad you had it sorted out. Sorry I wasnt of much help this morning, when you called I was still sleeping ler hahaha

Anyway, I've soldered that wire on my previous E36 float and it never gives me any problem again. Also soldered my friend's E36 float wire too. It can be done, but away from the tank. Its a good idea to change it anyway I guess.
