The 'again' was for visiting Bomin Auto (if you read a few post back I went there to replace my expansion tank last week) not for changing the arm again.

Did some wear and tear maintenance yesterday for my E39. Originally went in for an oil + filter change and replacing my leaking oil filter housing gasket, but end up doing some other stuff as well. Work carried out at Gen Power Motorsport in Desa Aman Puri, Sri Damansara as I is close to my house and I wanted to test the workshop's knowledge and work quality. Some items bought from Bomin Auto Jalan Ipoh, bought myself to be delivered to the workshop. Here's the damage:

Bought from Bomin Auto:

1) Radiator (german brand he says, no brand on the radiator) RM600
2) Thermostat RM150
3) Idler bearing RM75
4) Fan Belt Tensioner RM130

Item bought by workshop (he admitted he marks up these prices):

1) Oil Filter Housing Gasket RM20
2) Oil Filter RM40 (I knowwww!!)
3) Castrol Magnatec 10W40 RM110 each x2 = RM220

Labour

1) Fit new radiator RM80
2) Replace oil filter housing gasket RM100
3) Replace thermostat RM50
4) Replace fan belt bearing + idler bearing RM50
5) I think he forgot to charge for doing the oil change so the filter price is ok for me.

Total damage RM1515

What do you guys think?

The words "Fan Belt Bearings" click on me something...
As I quoted in Newbies today, my e39 was having noisy sound some where in the fan are? would there be related to any bearing as mentioned above? TQ

Tan,
Thanks for sharing. Just a suggestion. You could actually seal up the air-cond vents, between the external air-cond filter housing to the flippers with a sponge. Naidu, Jalan Gasing could do that for less than RM 50 and the end result you don't need to change air-cond filters for life! The best part, 100% no external smell, smoke...etc getting into the cabin!

If you have a high pitch screeching like those Proton sounds when cold startup then its maybe your bearing

steering and sound problem back area

whoes can explain about my car problem ;
1. Sometimes my steering locked and need times to unlocked, mostly when i start my car. Sometimes i can hear something sound like "crek..crek" when the steering rotate?

2. secondly...there are bad sound in the back place of my car...near the left tyre or maybe obsorber...when i driver slowly mostly when uneven road ?

For no.2, if the sound is clear to hear inside the cabin, the possibility is absorber mounting..

Thanks for sharing. Filter and labour charges appeared on the high side. It's not true that the maintenance is higher for M54 engine!. Even though it's only 2.2 litre but the power output is higher than the M52 523i. Suggest you stay with the M54 engine.

Damn my car just dead halfway just now under the HOT sun. Call the carrier and they only able to come to pick up tomolo.

Try my luck to start over and over, the car RPM just not stable but car still able to move. Drive 15km back slowly.

Fuel pump or crank sensor?

Bro I had quite similar experience, under the DAMN HOT sun, but is from stationary. Can crank, start but RPM unstable, press on accelerator wouldn't help, eventually dies off. Can repeat the whole process again but same result expected.

Petrol indicated another 45km RANGE. No error or whatsoever.

Buy RM10 petrol feed her then everything back to normal since.

Yeah some forummer suggest to look into fuel pump but mine was OK as it was relatively new. Anyway drove until the unfortunately day that I had accident, that's many months later.

Actually the car dead off after 1km i pump the petrol, so conform got fuel inside. What you have described is very similar to my situation.

Now using the scanner to scan the car..damn..too long never use and forgot how to use it..lol..

Just do the "clear all error" thing and see how it goes.

Just curious, do you have any intention to buy another car or sell off your E39? Your E39 merajuk-lah!!

Hahh..No error code for crank sensor, so fuel pump and fuel filter would be the next things to replace.
