1. Yes, the electric fan is original with "BMW" logo.

2. The fan attached to the engine is the "clutch fan". This clutch fan is different from electric fan.

Arghhhh...last week a message popped up while driving at the federal highway..car gave a small jerk and "Trans, Failsafe Prog" message popped up. The speedometer and consumption meter ( under the RPM ) failed to work and abs & asc lights popped up.the care was on the transmission safe mode too ( 3rd gear ). Lucky I was just 1km away from my regular workshop ( Bluegreen motor werks ).
Diagnosed the problem as a faulty ABS module. Will post the cost later as I haven't got the bill for the wheel sensors changed as well due to age.

Speedometer, abs, asc light on. Fuel gauge went empty (lights on)

replaced

2 rear abs sensor 267x2=534
labour 80 (2 hours job as the old sensor got stuck)
check the cable connected to the float, nothing wrong.

where : BM Works

now everything is fine.

Hi Jerman,
Everything is perfect now..btw, i used to have the lights coming on and off for the past 2 years..changed a sensor once and for the past 8 months or so no light and suddenly total kaput..hehehe

Bro,
My E39 torque converter just died on me. Mechanic recommends that I might as well change the whole gear box as the cost would be similar.

Anyone know how much is the Torque converter and how much is the whole gear box?

Thanks.

Was quoted RM8000 for the gearbox without installation. Is that expensive? Using a E39 double vanos M52

hi bishop, is it a rebuilt or reconditioned gbox? my friend here in batu pahat rebuilt his gearbox; new pump, recond t.converter n valve body at 5k plus if not mistaken..8k? sounds scary bro..

jft, care to pm me the number and address of your friend ?

my parent lives in batu pahat, maybe someday ( the dreaded day when my GB failed ) I will pay him a visit. I balik kampung once a month to BP too.......for Beriyani Mat Shah of course :D

Dear guys,

Before i buy this car i need to know about the maintenance. How offen does this model cause problem and is it expensive to maintain? I dont think that i have to worry much about changing the timing belt cause it uses timing chain.

Prepare RM6000 each year for maintenance. No matter how carefully u are, the money still need to spend.

Bro...changing the torque converter is usually cheaper than putting in a recond gearbox. Mechanics usually prefer the latter cos it's less work for them. Just take out old g/b and put in new g/b. Job done.

I recently changed my torque converter as well. While the gearbox was out I decided to have the whole unit checked, serviced and rebuilt using a ZF rebuild kit. Total cost came up to about RM6k, with reconditioned torque converter.

Hope this helps! ;)
