anyone replaced air temperature sensor (ATS) before? located under the pessenger/driver side of the front wheel, not too sure. Symptom, Instrument cluster will show a -40 degrees indication and ur AC fan will be running in MAX speed. This happened to me yesterday. Anyone replaced it before?

This is what i gathered from another source. Something worthwhile checking out if you have the AC fan running in MAX all the time..

deep, I had similiar experience. Try this first, unplug, clean it and plug it back. It works for me and it went back to normal. The sensor is located under the driver's side wheel arch. Just remove a couple of the screws. The entire process will take 30 min. If that doesn't work, replace with a new unit costing about RM 120.

Bro Jerman, thanks for the advice. I'm taking it to my mech this evening to put in on the hoist. I think, im not certain until later, mine would have flown off, because before the reading went to -40, i heard something knock the undercarriage, so i presume it is the sensor.

Mine also same case.. - 40 degree reading and aircon goes crazy during raining time.. replaced the sensor and everything fine after that..

bro rafa, when you replaced it, did the reading immediately show you the accurate temperature reading, or did you have to drive around for sometime till it came to normal?

Deep,
Flown off, loose contact or detached? Yes, when there is a break in the connection, the reading would show - 40C and a message will appeared in the OBD.

Diagnosed, the whole flap, where the sensor actually sits in flew off, due to wind pressure and some broken clips that left it to graze against the tyre and finally fly.

I changed mine too after the cover flow off...solved the problem immediately.

just got back my car from the workshop with a whole list of things changed but summarised below
1) rear upper and lower arms
2) brake hoses - 6 pieces
3) ball and universal joints
4) overhaul steering rack
5) absorber links
6) front brake pads and wear sensor
7) brake and power steering oil

the damage - rm5.4k, the result - sturdier, handling is better and the braking is smoother. should have got this done earlier.:top:

Today replaced following items by WP Auto Service, Pandan Mewah, KL

1. Front brake disc rotor (original) @ RM 275.00 x 2 = RM 550.00 ( I purchased it from Bavarian Auto)
2. Boot Gas pressurized spring (original) @ RM 60.00 x 2 = RM 120.00 ( I purchased it from Bavarian Auto)
3. Fan belt tensioner (OEM) x 1 = RM 140.00
4. Air-con belt tensioner (OEM) x 1 = RM 130.00
5. Labor RM 80.00

hi all, may not be directly related to e39 maintenance but thought i share as comparison. hope it's not construed as hijacking :)

i've seen some quotes here on engine mounting (plus labour) is approx rm200-300 for e39? that's a lot cheaper compared to audi A4 (B6 circa 2004 onwards).

engine mounting (both sides) + labour worked out approx rm800-900 for audi:39:
