bro isaac,

LDP from kelana jaya, take junction at DU to go to NKVE..means u r on sprint hiway. make a u turn at BU overhead...come down and keep left to enter the slip road before ESSO..follow the slip road and pass the furniture centre...go straight to the end. u shall see a god-forsaken shoplot on your left just before the road ends into a sungai. that's where it is. classic star is an intermediate shoplot whereas the corner shop has another BMW garage...called M Optimum if i'm not mistaken..

I send my car to Ah meng too
I don't know about the prices of most of them since I haven't touch them but I got my battery at 580, yours cheaper by 20 :thefinger:

Why did you decide to change these parts?
Looking at the prices, same like mine. Was labour charged in this? These can be quite a job.

I would suggest you fix the steering rack leak. The two hoses cost me about RM400. Check with other shops as well to give you comfort.
FYI, I spent RM12K at M-Speed for my first service. I also did almost similar to you (minus electric fan, adj unit, rev switch, headlight bulb, engine mounting, cam sensor, acc cable) and also included the subframe mountings(rear).

If you want cheaper, go and get the parts yourself and get him to install.

Hehe:top: actually begged, persuaded, etc etc not easy though.:listen: Had told him got major repair cannot afford etc etc. Anyways if you just battery then maybe he just give the usual price but mine maybe he got more to make. Well rm20 makan for 1-2 days can lor.

Meng told me he mark up a bit and there was no labour charge. Probably included in the prices already. U know lah business:wink:. Well as for steering rack he quoted around 1-2k. He just tambah steering oil jalan first lor. Cos my face already pityful.:argh: Which spare part shop to go to get reasonable prices roughly? What are the effects of not doing steering rack soon enough?

Thanks

Cos fan wasn't working. Plugged in the diagnostic terminal that indicated that parts listed not too good or it was not working and Meng told it is important to fix as it might effect the other parts. He told me he just fix the important relevant stuff only.

longestdrive bro: how is it feel after installing the electric fan?

Hey Tay, where u from? R u from Puchong too? Well it sounds quiter when accelerating at low revs. That's what I feel.:burnout:

for parts there are aplenty, most of them along Jalan Ipoh/Segambut area.
Suggest you check Bavarian Auto, Munich Auto (next to Bavarian Auto), Inner Power, First Division (Batu Complex) and Bomin Auto.

There are also Bavarian Auto branches in PJ, Cheras and maybe Sunway.

If you don't fix the steering rack leak, your steering rack might go kaput and it ain't cheap. Surprised if the cost is RM1-2K for changing the two hoses. Mine was RM400 inclusive of labour at BMWorld. Check if this is for replacing the rack. With lesser oil, the steering will get heavier and heavier until it will no longer function properly. I feel your pain longestdrive... once you fix all this, do go for a looooooong drive and enjoy the car. I did and went all the way near Ipoh and back :D

Hey Affan66,

Thanks for your input. I will change what needs to be changed asap. Where is BM Auto btw? Who can I speak to? I heard Meng also told me bout the steering pump. I hope need not big problem. I have no clue whatsoever though. :stupid:

You mean BMWorld? It is in Desa Pandan, next to the Caltex.
Do check the list of workshops thread. There are a number of good shops in many areas such as Kayu Ara, USJ, Segambut, Gombak/Batu Caves and so on.

longestdrive,
Thanks for sharing your joy & pain$$$..........BMW = Banyak Makan Wang!

This is a good forum to share with other E39 owners and as we could pick up contacts for cost savings on service & maintenance.

p/s: If you are in this part of town, you could try WP Auto in Pandan Indah (Albert Fang 012-2017792) or BM Works, Taman Industrial Bolton, Batu Caves (Vasu 03-61862006). Reliable & reasonable pricing!

Affan do you think if I get ah meng to do it would be cheaper? i buy the absorbers only from classic star.

Oh and how's the ride now? Comfy or Neutral or Hard?

Off-topic:
Close to Neutral. I need to do the alignment tomorrow to have a better idea. One thing is for sure, going over yellow stripes is not as jarring as before. I find Ah Keong of Classic Star to be quite okay. You may get it done a bit cheaper at Ah Meng but Ah Keong sent me back to the office and picked me up after that that I don't mind paying the extra. He did it all in about 4 hours.

Isaac, any other queries, PM me ya... or we setup a new thread. ;) Must keep this thread clean.

Welcome to the World of Banyak Makan Wang:smokin:
