I committed myself for another charity event on Dec 16 a month ago... This group don't have that many ppl so can't simply FFK..
On another note, i'm all for contributing back to the society especially to the less fortunate. Anyone who knows of needy homes which needs some hope whether in cash or in-kind or even gotong royong can always suggest.
There was one charity event I was involved with and it was an unforgettable one. It wasn't the donation collected that matters, it was simply a day we spent at the home. We helped to repaint the wooden house, laid cement at the chicken coop to make it an extension of the home.
It's not an ordinary home, it's a drug rehab home and also home for HIV+ patients. We spent half the day cleaning up the place, then in the evening, we got some HIV+ women and kids to join the BBQ dinner which we prepared for them. It was a special day for the residents, guests and everyone involved in organising and there for the event.
Initially, there was some hesitation due to it being a home for the HIV+ patients. Of course there are precautions. Actually, guardians from the home were more afraid that we bring virus and bacterias to their residents rather than we getting anything from them. the HIV+ residents are more susceptible to viruses and bacterias from the outside world.
We went back to the home a month later with more ppl and finished up what we didn't manage to do on the first visit.
A charity event is not always about the money, it's also the interpersonal relationship u experienced with the residents and the joy u bring to them. Something that money can't replace.
That's all the ramblings from me.. got other things to take care of for the AD and AGM this sat....
