Hey AB, you made me hate my 325 more nowadays...can say something else ka..except the nm...veli sensitive le

Spaceman, the inline 6 engine roar & exhaust sound is first class leh...:top:
I am very addciticted to it, but mine is a more louder version. e46.
E90 is more quiet but still nice.

But, I think I will have to really test drive a 320d these days & give it a try.

yeah... but no torque no fun le..

If I were the thread starter,
I'd get the Passat CC for RM 240+k, and keep the balance money in the bank.
Not happy with the performance ? Just a reflash would be sufficient.

All these cars are gonna depreciate badly anyways since you're gonna buy new.
Especially the Audi, rm320k brand new, use 2-3 years, surely it'll be around rm200-250k.

Furthermore, I heard now the Passat CC now comes with
5 seats, DSG gearbox, DynAudio sound system and unlimited mileage 5 years warranty.

Out of these 4 cars, the best interior would have to be the Audi followed by BMW.

But since the thread starter has a RM 320k budget,
just get the Audi 2.0T Quattro if you don't mind the resale value in the years to come.

Forced induction engines FTW ! Just love the low down torque. :top:

The Passat just doesn't cut it, in my books, in the looks department. I don't know ..it looks a little bit on the longish side...Techs, gadgetry and specs aside...surely looks also factor quite high up, right? Omegaman...what did you decide on after all this debate?

Omega Man, everyone can give input about specs, performance, looks etc but at the end of the day when you finally buy whichever car you choose, will you regret not buying the OTHER car? Not saying that any of the car/brand you stated is lesser but BMW is iconic man! I was in this analysis mode also before buying my 325 M sport. In the end, I just didn't want the feeling of standing in a hotel lobby and watching BMWs come and go and think.... wish I had a BMW! or seeing all the BMW magazines and writeup about the fantastic 6 cylinders, the brilliant chasis or the head turning styling and think...wish I had a BMW!! You being in a BMW forum, says to me that you may regret not owning a BMW if you chose another brand mate! Hope I'm wrong.

Now you can drive up and down all the hotel lobbies in Malaysia feeling very satisfied with yourself, bro!!All the gals will be checking your ride out, you sexy dude.... How many have you scored so far, dude, after buying the car? How many cutey birdies......? You da man....the Tiger and Rooney of the BMW club!!

I'm in the market for a sport saloon and I'm willing to spend up until RM 320k. I have shorlisted these 4 cars and appreciate all the sifus here to shed some light. Thanks !

Omega Man...which RM 320K sports saloon...did you pick? What's the latest update on that quest? Pray tell us...waiting......:stupid::hmmmm2::::41::41::driver:.

If power is what u want, get the Audi. Driving dynamic is paramount to me, none of the other 3 is even close in satisfying my need. Power is something that's never enough.. what's the use of power without control. What's the use of power when a smaller CC BMW overtakes u at every corner? NA cars are more suitable in powering out of screeching corner due to the smoothness in power deliver. A slight over power in a slippery corner can push the car into a spin.

If AWD is what u want, u should try the X1. Oh! u must take corners till the wheel screech, then only u can separate the men from the boys. Try feeling the torque transfer between the screeching wheels and the non screeching wheels. If straight line sprint is what u want, go test the EVOx or STi, they clock better times then all 4 u mentioned, at a lower price range.. :D

End of the day, your money your choice! If I buy car today, it will be the 320d, 0~100 in 7.6s, 380Nm torque, cheaper roadtax, cheaper fuel and u save RM100k !!

From what I understand ... u mean of all cars, BMW gives you better control? This is personal opinion or from car reviews?

Fellas,

I totally admire the new engine spec for the 320D efficient dynamics engine. What with 380Nm at such low revs, I can only imagine the joy of driving so much torque.

Coupla nights ago I was at Giant in Batu Caves, and while I was pushing my cart to my car in the parking lot, a loud clacking noise came behind. Thinking it was a 3-ton truck, I immediately push my cart away to clear the road.

Then I pusing belakang, I saw the E90 LCI 320D, in white, with liveries, looking for parking. I'm sure it is smooth and quiet from the inside, and definitely a joy to drive around with, but when one of those pass you by on an open parking lot, it just doesn't sound so bimmer-like.

So this bit bothers me. But for you, I dunno.

That ain't too bad. many years ago you would have to queue with Lori Balak & Buses everytime you fill up at the far corner.

I guess you havent heard the X1 diesel yet...for some reason i felt it sound worse then the 3er..

It sits higher from the ground, nearer to your ears. Plus, greater ground clearance, more sound transmission

If you;re that worries about the diesel sound, splurge some $$ on a scorpion exhaust. it'll drown the diesel engine sound but create a monstrous sound. It'll even reverberate low bass echo in narrow streets. Ppl would think you;re packing 600 horses under there. Trust me. I used it on my E36 and peoples head turned around everytime. Monstrous exhaust !!

Docrayboy,
All of us spend huge amount of RM to get our Bimmer, each bimmer has its pros and cons. We must be able to accept that. A diesel engine is still a diesel engine! Until the day BMW cure the diesel clatters sound, lets not pretend its not there. Tested both 320d and 520d, I like the car very much, what more the massive torque avail, economical and its a bimmer! But, the diesel clatters still there(albiet faintly in the cabin), from the outside its very obvious! So please stop putting ppl down who dont agree with you the wonderful 'd' BMWs. We must be able to agree to disagree instead of putting ppl down when they disagree with us. I do not wish to offend u, neither do I wish to see u offending ppl who dont think the 320d is such a good car! It is a damn good car but flawed!

There is no sound dampening material under the hood of the X1 but it exists for the 320D. That's what the Ingress sales dude told me when he was taxi'ing me to my office in the X1 and I commented it the engine sounded a bit crude from the cabin.

The best of both worlds is a 335i. The torque, whole lot more power and smoothness of a 6 cyl. Used 07 coupes are going for Rm250+k now.

ya the x1 doesn't come with the material that's why the 320d sounds quieter. the power of 6-pots 335i is just out of control!! and the roar is the fantastic...
