i just came back from JPJ padang jawa and tore off all my tinting on the spot..without any tint for the front windscreen is already 80% ??? i just changed to new MSG windscreen on friday btw.. what we can put that can pass 70% ??? fukerama !

Did you know you were going to JPJ today? If you knew why did you install the tint after replacing the winscreen on Friday? Nearly a sure thing they will koyak la, no matter pass the percentage or not.

brother...front windscreen got no tint la..i koyak all other sides coz didnt pass. just wanna make my point which brand can u stick when the original front, ...without tinting... is already 80%.. how their equipment is calibrated ? ish...

Original BMW windscreen already got heat resisting properties la..not sure about the MSG ones, but mine (sekurit?) i know it have some percentage already.

Its not the calibration bro, its the windscreen.

In my case, I am not disputing the failure of the windcreen VLT but the way V-Krap handked the whole situation. hey seem more intent on making it so difficult to claim and to completely ignore the problems I encouneterd with their tinte, like:

1. Smarttag
2. GPS
3. Autogate

They are still crap just like their product.

It is not the heat reistance that is measured by JPJ/Puspkom. It is VLT or Visible Light Transmission.

Almost all windscreens today does have some level of heat reisistant. Adding a film that allows high VLT and high heat resistant will not make it fail.

Having said that almost all windscreen today also have some level of tint. Adding a dark tint film may push it over the allowable LT.

The MkV Gti I bought for my son cannot put any tint cos it is already near the minimum alloable VLT. I also found that it already has a high heat resistance.

you all got me worried when i sent my car for puspakom inspection... mine was vkool elite tinted and i was prepared to tear.... but somehow, they din seem to check it much... and it passed with flying colours... saw another car with tinting pass too. have they changed the rules or the testing methods?

i read from their website that no peeling of tinting will be allowed in the inspection lanes (dated end feb 2010).

Actually the Pushpakom rule of no tearing in the inspection lanes is not new. This is to avoid inconvenience to others and any misunderstanding. The rule is to test the windscreen and if it fails, then the car is failed. No nego.

The Pushpakom inspector was nice enough to offer my agent a choice. They can follow the rule and fail the car. I have to take the car out and have the tint removed outside and then resubmit the car for another fresh inspection and also pay another inspection fee.

Alternatively, the Inspector offerred for the agent to voluntarily tear a portion of the tint and he will test the removed portion and pass it. Then I can take my own time to replace the tint. I chose this option.

Does anyone know if this Puspakom inspection is only required if the buyer is financing the car through a bank or it is required even if its a cash buyer through direct ownership transfer at JPJ (i.e. does JPJ need this Puspakom approval letter or the Bank?).

From what I know JPJ requires a certificate from Puspakom for all forms ownership transfers irrespective of nature of sale and purchase. The Puspakom certificate contains details of the car taken down durn g the inspection and its roadworthiness (in compliance go the rules).

i use lumar security tint, no problem with smartag. pretty good as heat dissipation as well. can check it out guys.

I just got my E90 325i with vkool elite inspected at Puspakom and it passed with flying colors. My E90 also comes with the OEM front windscreen purplish comfort glass, and a very transparent layer of tint applied by Vkool on it as well.

I suspect it's the VKool installer which selected the wrong front tints for Saat's E90 (as his car would also have the BMW Comfort glass on the front) which made it fail the inspection. Mine was done at VKool Center in PJ.

I wonder why JPJ won't relax the tinting ruling. The sun is getting hotter and hotter every year and these harmful UV rays aren't helping.

I have V-Kool as well and seriously it's not helping. I added another layer of tint over V-Kool and now I feel it's not sufficient anymore. Time to hunt for a better tint. Heard 3M is pretty awesome, anyone have that on their car?

Dear Saat, I'm getting a second hand E46 this weekend and want to do tinting. What is your favourite? What do you recommend?

Thanks very much.

Based on Specs, the Ecotint Raybarrier or 3M Crystaline tints are the ones to get. Good VLT readings and TSER and reasonably priced. Vkool is good, but it causes issues with GPS, handphone signal strength, remote door lock response, access cards/smart tag. It weakens these signals.

My vote for the best looking tint goes to Huper Optik Ceramic 40 (C40). Unlike Vkool, 3M or Ecotint, it's the most unreflective, and gives a deep soft color/hue. Very classy color as well. However, because it's not as reflective, the TSER ratings are good but not the best. I generally don't like reflective "hard" looking tints and much prefer a soft deep look. I am running Huper Optik C40 on my wife's car (white) and absolutely love the color of the tint and the way it looks! As C40 is also based on ceramics instead of metalized tint, it doesn't interfere with EM signals making it much more convenient vs. Vkool.

Here is a pic of an Apine white E9x with Huper Optik C40 taken from E90 post.

My recommendation is anything other than V-Krap. My favorite is Ecotint. It is not reflective and has the same soft deep look.

Although there are other subjective considerations e.g. Reflectiveness, look, color etc., As a rough guide see the comparo below:

Tint Comparo
TSER - Total Solar Energy Rejection
3M (Crystalline) 19-68%
3M (Ceramic) 59.00%
EcoTint (Ray Barrier) 58-64%
Huper Optik (X-T50) 29.00%
Huper Optik (Perf 3) 54.00%
V-Kool (Elite) 55.00%

UVRR - Ultra-Violet Radiation Rejection
3M (Crystalline) 99.90%
3M (Ceramic) 99.00%
EcoTint (Ray Barrier) 99.50%
Huper Optik (X-T50) 99.00%
Huper Optik (Perf 3) 99.00%
V-Kool (Elite) 99.00%

IRHR - Infra-red Heat Rejection
3M (Crystalline) 97.00%
3M (Ceramic) 80.00%
EcoTint (Ray Barrier) 95-97%
Huper Optik (X-T50) Not Quoted
Huper Optik (Perf 3) Not Quoted
V-Kool (Elite) 95.00%

I suspect as much. But what irks me is that both parties are trying to push this to each other. The installer is supposed to be quite a reputable one in USJ. V-Krap should get their act together. Dont they know that all these hurts them.

The fact that whilst there are many who has the same problem as me, there are just as many who does not have a problem. I suspect it is the problem is in the batches.

I am posting this so that many more people are aware of the iffy product, shady installer and unhelpful managerment of V-Krap.

I was told that if the tint doesn't pass and needs to be ripped off, Vkool is supposed to replace it for you for free. That's the promise, but from Saat's case, the execution is something different all together.

I am told by one dealer that V-Krap dealer support is the worst. Many dealers change any problematic V-Krap tint for their Customers without a second thot and then submit a claim to V-Krap. One dealer described their ordeal when claiming from them like begging for mercy. Invariably, they blame the dealer and dealer ended up absorbing the cost of the change.

That is the reson why some of you Managed to get the change without any problem. I went thru AB and did not deal with the dealer directly so I get no Customer support at all.

in any case, my V-Krap was installed by The Tintshop in USJ.
