Macheet...congrats on your new delivery....

Wrt to paint and exposure. All new BMWs (pre-delivery, in-transit) are heavily coated in cosmoline (like a very heavy wax) to protect the paint finish. Its good that AB did the necessary touchups like chaging the rubber linings/tires/seals etc.

I am assuming your are referring to rust stains not actual rust spots? The rust protection baked onto our cars are quite effective...

Just called the guy at BMW Malaysia to confirm. Definitely arrangements have been made. I will get a set of 161s from CBU car (unused) in exchange for my current wheels. I pointed out to them that all the brochures and web pages specified 161 rims and that what they were doing was misleading. Whatever the reasons, I have been promised a set of new (ish) 161s with mixed tyres by the end of the month! Or there will be hell to pay!!

Just called my SA at AB to query her about this matter of 161/159 rims. She says that there was rumour that the rims for the CKD were meant to be 161s, but they botched up the order for the first lot of CKD cars. That's why they all got 159s. The next lot should have 161 rims and mixed tyres as specified in the brochures. If this rumour is true!

Ahhhh.... you are absolutely right. I got it all mix up. It's 159 for the first 120 units of CKD. Anyway..... I would prefer 159 to 161 (just my personal opinion). It looks nicer overall. I was told that 159 is more expensive than 161. AB wrongly order the 159 rims for the first batch of CKD (the first 120 units). After the 120 units, all of them will be on 161.

FWIW...the 159s are standard fitting for US E90 2006 330i's and 2007 E90 335i's. The 161s are optional-cost fittings (part of the ZSP) for E90 2006 325i's and now 2007 E90 328i's.

The 161s look too much like the weak looking 156's (that I, unfortunately have on my car). The better wheel upgrade would've been the ellipsoid 162's.

I personally prefer the 159s for that classy-lux look. I think the 159s go well with the chrome-line package that is standard on Malaysia-spec 325i's. Another possible advantage is ease of tire rotation ... eventhough BMW AG doesn't encourage tire rotation

Thanks KL2DC, been following your postings, very useful...yes u r right, just rust stains (they made an effort to clean it up but I guess but the rusty bits still caught my eyes!!!)

BTW, anybody can offer advice how to configure the selflocking as soon you drive off. The manual only covered cars with idrive. I did not even notice (been buzy focusing on the drive bits) but missus noticed that the doors do not auto locked unlike my ex-E46. Any ideas guys?

pkw88, mine is 161. On the same token, you should also demand mixed tyres as per the brochures. Noticed CKD version has similar tyre size all around, CBU units have 255/40 shod at the rear, 225 fr. But come to think of it, may not be a big a deal afterall.

Cheers

Macheet...personal profiles are accessible via your OBC stalk on your left. To access the menus, you need to have the car on in P, then a simple toggling of the switch to cycle through the menus. Its the menu with the check marks and a picture of a key. I believe its the 2nd or 3rd icon down. Let me look up a soft copy of the page. Its 5mph auto-lock function, I have it on with my key settings but not the wifey's (not a fan of autlock).

edit: added pic...this should get you under way.

If you're horrified by rust, I suggest you do not take a close look at your wheel hubs when you have your wheels off. You might be shocked :D All e90s exhibit rust or rust-like conditions in the wheel hubs and also the brake rotors (after washing and in combination with certain detergents).

Actually I am looking around for the 162 rims. Checked with AB and it cost RM 22,000.00!!!! I like the 162 rims especially is 18".

RM 22,000  That's close to USD6,000....holy crap!!

Maybe I shouldn't mention how almost brand-new take-off 162 wheels/tires set are changing hands for 2k or less in the used parts market, then :D

I would like to get a set as well, maybe next spring.....:)

Donny, how i wish your bag is big enough to carry four units of 162 for me when u are back!! hehehe.....

David: LOL ... btw no replicas in Malaysia, yet? I hear there are some well-made Italian 162 replicas (no staggered, though).

I saw before few units of e90 325i with these rims.
It could be the first batch of CBU.
These rims are standard on e90 330i which is limited unit over here.
My friend was telling me to try my luck at Klang.
There are many shops selling rims.
Maybe there are replicas or maybe someone who trade-in their new 162 when they changed to other rims.
I will never give RM 22,000 for rims....

I prefer the 162s too. But like you I felt they were just too pricy. The 161s I saw on the CBU 325i looked more pleasing IMHO. Like all things, its different strokes (or maybe "spokes") for different folks. LOL

Agreed! Different spokes for different folks...

Aside from the 162s, my all-time dream wheels are BBS CHs in M3 fitment. In a perfect world, my car would look like this *drool* :p I am about...oh, I dunno...USD5k away between ACS parts, suspension work, wheels etc *sigh*

Very true indeed! :) What I didn't like about the first CKDs were the 159s shod with 225s all round. Just made the car look too dolly for me. And I was told that AB wouldn't change them for 161s with 225/255 setup ala CBU, so it's very interesting news indeed that pkw88 managed to get them to exchange his for a set from the CBUs!

Thanks for that tip pkw88! It should make me troop down to AB again and order a CKD 325, but in other threads KL2DC has enticed me to wait for the 2007 models which are already rolling out in the US :p

Schwepps, the 159s is only for the first 120 untis of CKD. After the 120 units, they will change all back to the 161s. Quickly go and book one unit now and we have another new member to our e90 comunity :)...... dun wait till 2007, feel like having it now, just go for it, dun wait..... every year & everytime there is something new coming out..... are we all gonna just wait ???

Is the 328i a replacement for the 325i?

Schwepps, AB didn't want to get off their big backsides to help me change the rims to the 161s. I actually went to BMW Malaysia directly. I should have asked BMW Mal if I could go direct to the 162 or maybe 195 rims for a discount. Then again maybe I should just be satisfied with I've got.

That sounds more like it. After delivering the car and having you drive on its wheels and tyres, why should AB agree to change them for you? You did very well indeed to get BMW Malaysia to agree. You must either have a big voice or are 7 ft tall ;) We should learn from you! Be satisfied...you now have a great car with the look you want. Enjoy!

Dunno whether the moniker will change to 328 here like it will in the US and other markets, but essentially it will be the same car. A facelift isn't due yet, am I right KL2DC?

Thanks for your "push" David  But I'm not in a rush. Already have 3 cars in the driveway, and the used car market being what it is now, I wouldn't want to sell any of them, so a 4th car will push one of them outside. Also have to pick a time when the missus is very happy with me or I'll have to sleep in that 4th car parked outside :D
