Yes.... maybe it is a little too popular.

But for Malaysia here, especially for the e90 and according to the BMW Malaysia, they receive the highest order on black color, follow thru with SG, Monaco Blue and Silver.

Maybe Silver is just too common. For me who is lazy to take care of the car (especially on the external part), I prefer to take silver....

David, thanks for the statistics...interesting to note the market preference. Actually, is silver even technically a color....? j/k

There is a reward/effort relationship between car color and maintenance. Case in point, there is no color out there that matches the beauty of a freshly washed/waxed black car but you're a slave to your car for as long as you own her. Trust me, I've had a black car before....

LOL Frankie, its not the size of the stick that matters, is how you use it ;)

Actually, as you know, BMWs are not about 100% brute power is the balance that they are famous for....:) I tell this to all the Infiniti G35 (280hp) and Acura TL (270hp) drivers.

U are absolutely right KL2DC.
I owned a dark blue color car before (my previous Volvo S80).
I can understand the painful feeling whenever I see scratches or stone chips on it. And it is not so easy that you can simply send your car (black color or dark color car) to a normal car wash operator. You will definitely see so many lines after the car wash.
At least silver color allows you to collect a week dust :) hehehehe.....

325xi: welcome to the list/BCM registry, thanks for joining us. Our first xi, congrats :D David, we have another TiAg....

I see you're in Boston, I'm your southernly neighbor here in the DC metro area (N VA). Say are you on e90post.com? ;) Are you a malaysian, as well?

Hi KL2DC,

Up here the xi is most practical in winter.
I'm not on e90post.com.
Malaysian.

325xi, yep I totally agree. VA winters are relatively mild so I'm good. What options do you have on your e90? How are you liking her, so far? Did you order or buy off the lot? When you have time, you should also check out e90post.com, its the definitive e90 site. There are regional meets held etc.

For all the e90 owners, sorry i dont have e90 but wish to know something. I quickly browse through the 'different of e90' but couldn't find information or maybe i miss. How is the e90 fuel comsuption ? I heard it's save petrol a lot more than e46 with the latest technology. But how different ? Full tank can go until how many KM if living in KL city ? How many litre ? when i heard less petrol comsuption, i raise my eyebrow. Tot wanna own one also. :)

my e46 328i full tank rm 120 or 62.5 litre run until 400-450km in KL city.

Dumeort: My 3.0l N52 engine unfortunately drinks like an alcoholic German (which is a lot LOL). In 95% city driving (rush hour in DC is very bad), the OBC tells me 14-17mpg and I think my range is 300ish miles. Sorry in metric, too lazy to convert. But once you take her out in the open, you can get high 20s - low 30s easy. This car is born to run and hates to be cooped up in the city.

But other e90 owners seem to be getting better than me. I have a feeling my gasoline brand is not that good. I have an account with ExxonMobil so that's what I use, but when I filled up a tank of Shell V-Power the other day, my avg MPG shot up to 18-19mpg. The jury is still out, but note that Shell is a top tier fuel recommended by BMW. Also, the increased in consumption might be due to the addition of ethanol (up to 10%) here. Ethanol is not an efficient fuel.

So far full tank on this beast at current gas prices is about $50-55....

p.s. you might/should get different/better results with your 2.5l engines.

KL2DC:

About the choice of SG- most folks decide on the car first, then color, trim level and other options afterwards. Me, I knew my E90 would be SG. Once I decided to take the plunge, 2 salespeople working at BMW dealerships in different states commented that SG was the most popular choice by far. So I opted for Black, then backed out not so much due to my old man's superstitions, but because my other car is Tarmac Black.

A year on, and I've been pleasantly surprised to see Black E90s outnumbering other colors here in KL. It's all good!

AlexC: Yep...there's a reason why they used an SG e90 in all their promotional media :D As mentioned, in my case, my first choice was arktis (its more special than TiAg but just as easy to maintain), but the day before my build slot entered production, I changed my order to SG on an impulse...it was just one of those things. I second guessed myself in the days to follow but fell in love upon first sight of my baby. I am glad things worked out well, granted its more involving to maintain but I love the color changes, although arktis has a more dynamic spectrum of colors.

.

Dumeort:

My 325i with a 60 liter tank averages 550-570 km per tank of regular Shell gas with a mix of 60% highway and 40% city. For city driving I'm pretty sure I've done over 500km per tank.

My record is 624km after which 61 liters of gas made it into my tank.

KL2DC:

My E90 has never consumed VPower. Not only is VPower substantially more expensive, but it also has the same octane rating as Shell Green (in Malaysia at least), so I don't see a performance benefit.

My Evo ran VPower occasionally and when the injectors were upgraded, there was some funky residue within the injectors. This is presumably due to whatever cleaning additive Shell adds to VPower but not to Green.

In the US I run Sunoco 94 which I'm sure you can get in the Mid-Atlantic. I remember filling up somewhere in CT with either Exxon or Mobil 93 and the engine starting detonating. My car was tuned on Sunoco 93, so draw your own conclusions. YMMV

AlexC....nope no Sunoco94 here, that's a west coast thing, I think. There is a list of top Tier gasoline brands compiled and tested by BMW, Honda, Toyota and such and from the list of 4...I recall Shell, Chevron, Sunoco and something else I can't remember, maybe Amoco BP. Yes, I do share your sentiments on ExxonMobil, I do not have much confidence. Will shop around...still better than Costco gas, though LOL. Thanks for the input.

AlexC, so new e90 oil usage are same like my Honda Accord 2005. Interesting. But now pokai cannot buy new car. Spend 20K for repairing and rims and bodykit my e46. Sigh.
