HI EVERYONE!! I felt compelled to write this for the benefit of those would be BMW riders that might be turned off just by reading a negative comment .. For your own benefit, please do NOT make your decisions based on hearsay.. It is what it is ..I Hear & I Say.. Please do not AssUMe things as it will make an Ass of UMe .. Else you would probably be missing out on what might have been one of your best experiences in life.. Ducatis are great .. I too admire them and have ridden 'em.. BMWs are great too.. but an apple to one might be poison to another. So, the best thing to do is to try 'em out yourself and then decide. So that you can pick whichever suits you and your needs best which only YOU can answer...Don't let trivial matters rob you out of what would have been your best experiences. Other makes have their own horror stories as well but don't make that as the sole conclusion.. I too have heard horror stories one way or another , even from those who have not even owned nor ridden/driven a BMW and these fellas even make comments about the ownership experience like they have owned at least one before, but NOoooo..they heard their friends' uncles' brother in-law's sister outlaw's cousins' brother said this and that.. Go figure...!!Some stories might seem true but please don't judge a book by its cover. If I had listened blindly , I would be probably missing on one of the best enjoyments of my life and I would not have even been aware of it. What a loss that would have been. I guess all makes of rides surely have their own problems. Lets face it , nobody's perfect. Just get the facts right before we make any decisions. Judge if it applies to us because a lot of variables are involved. Problems are bound to creep up but how we tackle the problem might make all the difference in the world... Like Keith KL333 wisely told me, "It takes 2 hands to clap"..and then there's the percentage of bad vs good experiences.. One gotta take into account that too.. I hope one would not make his decision based on lets say just for argument's sake... 10% of the 'bad experiences' since bad experiences are more often highlighted because of one's frustration. As such, those good experiences seems like it is lacking or maybe even seems to be that none exists.. because when one is content , one might not take the trouble to waste his time to share it. Well , let me be the first to make it here at least. Else YOU are the one who is going to be missing out on all the fun and not others..."karang siapa yang rugi.. mereka dan keluarga mereka" .. I too have had warranty issues , major and minor but both were attended to my satisfaction justly and professionally. I have never had complaints dismissed. And to me, these are minor setbacks if compared to my enjoyment. Well , I can't be guaranteed there won't be any problems either if I go for other makes. To me Garry, Fastly , Nik & Jef has made me want to buy another BMW bike. Granted the fact that sometimes the service can be slow but we must remember the fact that there are a couple hundred of BMW bikes out there and only this small team to handle 'em all but only sometimes not all the time. So, you cant really blame them, can you? Normal service are swift. You just have to book in advance. Heck, it's the same whatever make you go for.. so, it shouldn't be a deciding factor. However now they have added 2 apprentices to the team. A step in the right direction I am sure. Honestly , when we motorraders ride together and start to gossip like desperate housewives even, very seldom i hear complaints. The bikes are just so enjoyable and sooooo reliable. Just pour in fuel and when the times up, just service. That's it..Just like a car. To those of you who don't really know about bikes and quite lazy like me and a beginner and just like to have fun on it only, then a beemer is what u need if affordable.. Fill her up with fuel and whack her to your hearts content. If u know how to handle her , she'll give you enjoyment without trouble for years to come. I whack my K1200S above 200kmh all the time and i do it without hesitation and concern as i am confident of its ability and durability. I have peace of mind and no worries at all when riding . And that gentlemen , is PRICELESS! I regularly do KL-Simpang Pulai in 50-55 minutes without worries of maintaining above 200++kmh constantly. when i ride together with other makes, none can maintain what we K bikes can do... we can make Ipoh on one tank but others mostly till Tapah.. we are confident of riding fast coz the brakes are just phenomenal. That is just as equally important as being able to be fast. 0-100kmh in 2.8 seconds and still gives 40+ miles per gallon.. Maintenance very easy, change oil n filter .. each service cost between RM300+ to 500 depending on mileage . service every 10k. But I sevice my bike evry 5k coz that is my preference coz I like it to be tip top. Anyway, I never had any problem with Garry n team. They are very courteous and obliging. Sometimes even went out of their way to help me like fixing accesories etc etc.. before I bought my bikes , I came across several websites that gave praises to Garry n team for helping them on their journey around the world while transiting in Malaysia.. the most recent is www.pooleglobaltrek.com .. to quote "The final stop is to Auto Bavaria, the BMW dealer in town where we meet Sahran, the bike salesman. He was another very friendly and helpful chap who sold me another bevel drive bearing for only £46, I paid over £100 in Darwin! www.autobavaria.com. After a coffee and a chat we caught the mono-rail back to our hotel."and..."We arrived at Auto Bavaria's Motorad dealership at Glenmarie on the outskirts of KL and met Garry, the head of motorcycle after sales. He suspected right away that it was the ignition pulse generator.."" Next day I wake to find I have picked up a cold and sore throat which in this climate could take some time to shake off but I must soldier on. We picked up the bike which is now running sweetly again. The bike workshop here at Auto Bavaria Glenmarie is well equipped which makes it strange that it doesn't feature on the BMW website as a Motorad dealer? Gary tells me that it was the ignition pulse generator as suspected, parts and labour cost £252.72 and I also picked up another spare bevel drive bearing - just in case! We had a great three-day stay in KL and met some fantastic people but it was time to explore this beautiful country which has already gone to the top of my list of favourites." end quote..... so, as you can see Garry n team has done our country proud. Kudos! u guys might have guessed already .. if I weren't satisfied with their service and commitment , would I have 2 BMW bikes ..the K1200S & the R1200RT ..bought only months apart... So, this thread also serves as a WARNING to Fastly.... I want the S1000RR  :shakehands: :bike:and also,if service were SOOOO bad would there be over 200 bmw bikes sold out there by Auto Bavaria costing above RM100k each... and that is just the new generation bikes..not counting the older earlier models... all 20 of the new K1300S were sold out even before it hit our shores..GO FIGURE!! I guess the same argument could be used for the cars division as well... there is also a motorrad centre in Penang.. so, guys and gals , whatever decision u make . make it an accurately informed decision .. ENJOY and RIDE/DRIVE SAFELY WHATEVER YOUR RIDE MAY BE!! ANY WHICH ONE IS GOOD IF IT SUITS YOUR NEEDS WHATEVER IT MAY BE...P/S : I DO NOT WORK NOR AM I ASSOCIATED TO BMW or AUTO BAVARIA IN ANY MANNER... Just a concerned member not wanting others to miss out on the FUN I am having... lets have fun together gether :D

Thanks Nazrie, for your personal experience.. and a good one as well... cheers..

Nazrie,

Good write up and I really do hope other Motorraders get to read this...knowing for a fact that not many of them are forumers.

Being a past biker myself, I can totally relate to the 'sheer riding pleasure' you and other bikers experience.

Used to be wind in the face and hair until they made helmets mandatory...still get the wind thru the visor and that's a big big thrill... To be able to lean into a corner hearing the sound and the vibration of your knee slider grinding the tarmac is another highlight not experienced by many and especially car drivers.

Ooo...i better stop now...sigh..

Pleasure? Sure is.

Good write up bro Nazrie.

I have some fellow riders who questioned me with regards to the co$t of maintenance, poor aftersales services by Glenmarie clans etc. A number voiced their interest in having a beemer but the (borrowing Nazries) 'heresay' had put them off. And they are bewildered as to why i still stick to a BMW (well, this is my third BMW).

After explaining the pros and cons (and after unintentionally demonstrated the elegance of an RT munching up straight as well as winding miles in respectable speeds:bandit: ) a couple had converted and got themselves an RT. Some had even secretively behind other fellow biker friends approached me and asked about the tips, pointers, etc with regards to my beemer. Do not want to do it openly, perhaps afraid of being ostracized by fellow Kawis and Yammys riders.

Used to ride Yammys, Kawis and Hondi but I love BMWs. Like mentioned, this my the third. Planning to have the fourth if i hit the 'tail number' :19: and it would be the GSA. Will still keep the RT though. I just love the bike.
Problems with after sales service? Yes they exist. Frustrating surely. Feels like whacking some head? Offcourse. But once you get your bum back on the beemer and wheezes it through the highways, the bike will restore your grin back to your grimacing face.

The complaints on the service should not be taken to extreme on part of the complainer. On the part of the party being complained at, it should serve as an alarm buzzing wake up call. Yeah I did make some ‘nasty’ remarks myself about this aspect too in another thread here but it is to pay due respect to myself (hey don’t you respect yourselves?), the paying client. Not to mention through the nose sometimes.
Did it work? I think it sure the hell did. If you’ve ever sent your crotch rocket to Autobavaria off late, you'll notice the difference. To Garry, Jeffry and the Glen's clan, thumb up (three quarter way :) ). I noticed what you did on my bike even though none of you mentioned it(I am an avid observer) and I appreciate those ‘touches’ that I believe add values to your services. No more rattles and open holes.

The complaints on the bike? Heck there are a quite few too. Do not plan to hide it either. The www is full of information and everyone can google them and write tomes about it. Some valid and others are not. Many forums of bike of the ‘other’ makes also discuss beemers. Understandably many negatives and only some positives remarks. Interestingly many negatives end up with the statement that goes like “well I hate BMWs because I heard they are blah blah blah, BUT if I have the money I would buy it too”. Do not take my word for it, google it. That is what I did before taking the plunge. And it ends up as one of the few plunges I never regretted to take.

Beemers, like other bikes have problems too. It is only that beemers (being somewhat an ‘exclusive’ brand ) have problems that appeared to be exclusive to beemers too. To me it is called character. Some you like, some you don’t. Have to live with it. I like the crude look of a reliable engine design, the boxer. But I sure hate the rattles but since I love it more that I hate it, I like it.
I love the wheezing smoothness of the GTR1400 (test rode that one before deciding on my third beemer) but the seating position, nimbleness and elegance of the RT won me over. Both are ‘garang’ bikes. The GTR is like a ‘garang’ Godzilla while the RT is like the ‘garang’ Optimus prime of the Transformers’. [ehem! Even more garang is the GSA, heck why must BMW keep bringing in models that keep us drooling]
At this moment, I am still a beemer rider. Hit the ‘tail number’ 2 times I’ll buy 2 more beemers GSA and the HP2 S. The third time, then only I’ll be buying something else, a Harley.

One may ask, why such a brand loyalty? I would conclude as:
1. My Beemer gives me enough practical speed. Other bike can go faster, but is it necessary?
2. My Beemer gives me assurance of superb handling. The telelever and paralever is phenomenal. Ride a beemer, brake or downshift at furious speed in mind numbing winding roads (crazy I know) then you would thank them levers. No other bike have them.
3. My Beemer gives me the reliability. Yeah maybe as mentioned above, problems do exist but hey, they have made many long way ups , downs and rounds and continued to be the preferred bike for such purpose. Why? Because they have many problems? No, because they have much-much more reliability.
4. Beemers give me something that no other bike can. It is the indescribable feeling when, right after you have satisfied yourself on her (the bike I mean), you get off her and give a passing glance at her capturing blue eyes, the BMW logo. God I love those.

And one more thing, only beemers entitle you for free ranges of coffees from cappuccino to espresso and cakes and pastries when you drop or pick up your bike at Glen’s.

Beemer Riders, Ride safe bro.

don't know about the monster .. I ll ask my buddy who rides one later but another buddy of mine Asri rides the K12R to work EVERYDAY from Tropicana,Damansara to KLCC.. I stress the word EVERYDAY..come rain nor shine , he'll still be riding to work.. through all the jams watnot and the bike still runs perfectly with occassional rides with me on weekends as well, blasting at speeds above 200kmh. He has it for a year already & his mileage is 40k plus . So far maintenance has only been routine maintenance at 10k , 20k , 30k and 40 k. averaging about RM400 per service. No headache of changing chain & sprockets, oiling the chain etc etc... As I stressed earlier, take care of her n she will take care of u. That is money well spent for peace of mind. Beemer bikes are sooooooooooooooooooo reliable..dont forget.. BMW made bikes first before they made cars.. back in 1923. so far , normal wear n tear are only the tyres... for cheap tyres, just contact me lah... got lobang waaan... i ll update about the monster when I have the chance...

ye lar2 Nazrie, I will spare 1 unit K46 for you. But better b quick, AB BB took 5 bookings recently, all with competition colors. And I only have 10 units Dec prod.- March deliveries.

Welcome to PLANET POWER! S1000RR Power Redefined
