you can call it the noise or you can call it a blessing in disguise. a gentle reminder that you are driving a car powered by the 'd'ark side. when the engine is running at the proper temperature range, it's slightly less lorry sounding. if it's a turn off, you can always opt for aftermarket sound damping products/services. a better sealed car like the 520d doesn't sound as loud. E60's 530d's even sweeter sounding.

until we get Euro 5 diesel. cleaner and has more power.
i think the turbo-diesels are powered by the 'd'irty side. haha.

That's the reason why I chose 328i over 320D. Buying 320d in Malaysia is like compromising on the full capability of a modern diesel to suit the dirty diesel we have at our pumps. You don't get the best that you ought to get from a modern diesel engine due to the dirty fuel. I wish the petrol companies in Malaysia would launch Diesel vPower or something and I am sure the sale of diesel cars would pick up for sure.

opsss sorry Gendong.. i mean it was 320d e90 not f30, sorry for this misunderstanding..

Sorry bro, at this juncture i do not know as i am not an f30 owner.......just yet. Newer f30s comes with standard BSRI, so less hassle for owners.

agreed. i love turbo-diesel torque. but until we have cleaner diesel, i think petrol is still the way to go.

why compared between 328i & 320d ..
i drive e90 320i and test-drive both F30 320i & 320d and decided to buy 320d as the 380Nm turbo-diesel torque
is absolutely great fun to drive compare to f30 320i , n never feel regret

'd'irty or not, i personally have no prior experience driving any oil-burners using Euro 5 and have no clue or reference to what it really feels like to have that 'more' power, won't miss what i don't know. cleaner or not, on paper, it's supposed to produce less emission than petrol. then again, 'cleaner' isn't my priority. 'D'irty fun is my thang...

Am I happy with my car? Well apart from the rusty seats, I am very happy. It is the right choice for me without any regret.

kl_T,

Jump in, break in the engine and join our drives. Then you tell me whether it was worth it.

looks like a lot of happy bimmers here...
Yes kl_T...despite the rusty seat hinges & wind noises, F30 rocks !!!

Gendong ... faster get the F30 la then you can say you know! Hahahahahaa ...

Im happy with my car. I was driving the E90 previously and my first impression when i test drove the F30 was the surge of power delivery from the turbo engine, car feels lighter and reacts to throttle quicker, steering feel, unless you switch to sports mode is also light, somewhat reminds me of the MK5 GTI. I miss the inline 6 engine from the E90 but performance and driving pleasure, its still the same. It all boils down to what you want from a car and whether or not the features it offers fits you personally and economically.

The F30 made power affordable!

true, true.

rusty seats, knocking front right, mysterious driver side power window suka-suka auto suka-suka anti-pinch.. it's given me nothing but big wide naughty ear to ear grin each time you floor the pedal.

Yes, diesel engine got bigger torque...but what i worry is after few years there will be huge black smoke come out from the exzos. And every time see a road block have to hide just like the diesel lorry.

IMHO, you are comparing an award winning innovative Diesel engine against conventional wisdom about a lorry engine. Not saying there's nothing to worry about Diesel engines using sub-par quality diesel, we worry about rusty seat frames or squeezing more juice out of the motor than anything else.

Yes, BMW may produce one of the best Diesel engines in the world. But you still can't run away from the fact that Diesel engine produces more carbon soot than a petrol equivalent.

agreed. diesel in Malaysia for your car is like a person drinking unfiltered water.

hey, short term wise, both dudes are not thirsty and function normally. but long term, i know who will fall sick first.

IMO 320D is only for those few people

- who want extra 300km mileage per tank
- who most of the time speed less than 230km
- who love low end torque
- who believe that diesel carbon emission is cleaner than petrol in actual fact
- who dont mind the diesel clatter ( it is not like lorry lah!). It is still very quite from inside
- Who dont listen to unsubstantiated rumours based on negative perseption abt diesel usage in malaysia.

If you are one of those few, then I think you are ready to get the goodness of the N47 engine
