i think u should not worry about resale value when considering a BMW. we know for a fact tht moment u drive ur car out frm d showroom, depreciation starts badly unlike toyota or honda.
yeah, its worse for a diesel..
i buy 320d because the driving experience it gave is more important thn d resale value :)

Bro, if resale value is your priority, then in all honesty forget the roundel. Get yourself a jap.

This is just MHO. i m using e90 320d over 3 yrs already. Compared to e90 320 and 325 I think the d is better in performance wise and fc. Onresale I also had a doubt when I made a decision to buy. But bcos of the gd discount and msport spec, I bought it and very happy with the car so far. But compared to the F30, I would say all 3 are equally good and have their own advantage. I wont go wrong If i buy any of them. On resale I dont think there will be much loss for the 320d compared with 328 coz fuel saving will compensate partly. But the best winner on resale will be 320 I guess

The thing about F30s whether petrol or diesel, they are all forced induction now, which can be very satisfying. I keep harping that even the 320i is no slouch and can give more satisfaction than E90 325i. I also 'friendly' and safely (if that's such a word) race test a F10 520i vs. E90 325i once and it was so marginal with the former having better torque spread earlier on. So, quite rightly, you won't go wrong even with a 320i and at the current price, it's quite worth it :)

Bro, both the 320i and 320d are great cars. After all it's a BMW.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this BMWCM. but i been reading and watching this forums more than 6 months.

Need opinions and advice from all the pro's in the forum...(i already intro my self at newbies )

I just book my F30 at BMW Tun Razak( first car of my dream car). but i didnt choose 328i or 320d.

The issues im facing right now, I have no idea to choose 328i or 320d. I never use Diesel car before and no one in my contacts list using diesel, so i have zero knowledge in diesel.

My side 65% to 320D ( cheap, rm270+/- ) and 35% to 328i ( tight budget but can work on it. rm320+/-).

what i heard, people always talking about the loud sound frm the car for 320d, resale value not higher as petrol..

need badly information on maintenance, pick up and biggest difference between diesel and petrol.

please, i will be happy if you can get just spend 5 mins of your time to advice me.

Thank you everyone.

PS: docrayboy, i have to tag you cuz i see you full of information on f30.. seems like u are inside guy of bmw msia.. hahahah

328i i much more powerful than the 320d. 6.1s to a hundred vs. 7.6s to a hundred. performance point of view no comparison.

you should be toying around between 320i and 320d. both have similar comparison. BMW diesel fans will tell you Diesel has more "fun", petrol heads will tell you its "dirty"

in the end, it is up to you.

economy is more important. go diesel.
resale value is more important. go petrol

if only BMW came with a variant of their 320d to have 328 or 335 options in there.... i think there would be a market for that..... :D

Then they won't make as many sales of the 328i or 335i. It's all a marketing strategy I think.

haha.... true also.... or maybe bring in the 330d and 530d.... that would give diesel enthusiast the option for a more premium version....

Unlikely unless the government upgrade the quality of our diesel fuel.

Does quality of diesel fuel improves performance? Or more related to just meeting emission guidelines for our mother earth?

better quality diesel will improve performance.

the 0-100km/h times quoted are all using the best quality diesels and petrols.

eg: golf GTI's time of 6.9s can only be achieved with ron 98.
F30 320d's time of 7.6s can only be achieved with Diesel Euro5.

how much poorer performance you are getting now? nobody knows, but to use your car's potential, you have to use the right fuel.

Has anyone tested their century sprint time? Are we getting the official sprint time as claimed by the manufacturer? Anyone dyno their car to check the hp and torque?

I think we are actually getting better than 7.6 for the D compared to the UK version. The reason is because the DPF has been removed. So logically since there is no firewall, the performance will be better isnt it? The better performace is at the expense of the environment. The euro fuel standard are emission standards and not measuring performance. For them the better the standard the lower will be the tax coz they are related to environment.
