with CVT Transmission, most of the torque is missing. I have tried the Nissan Shelphy n the Mitsubishi lancer, no feeling, just press the throttle flat down n the car just moves..no fun to drive.

I too was considering the A4 when i was hunting for a new ride to replace my aging civic.
I did my research n tested drove few cars with the f30 n a4 1.8T being shortlisted as d final 2.
I chose f30 based on 2 main reasons, 1. Limited option on dealership (monopoly by euromobil) plus long waiting period..2. Driving dynamic of d f30 (in my case the 320d) is far better thn the a4
Even with all issues associated with it, to me it still worth it :).

The f30 lets me drive the way i like to drive...regardless of the teething issues faced (which will be resolved eventually), the thrill is still intact.

Cannot compare to the f30, the a4 (the current b8 model) has been around since 2008 so teething issues would have beensorted years ago..

And the use CVTs and FWD....definitely not a blueprint for a performance drive. Not my cup of tea...

yup yup ur rite

this a4 has a brand new engine. with the same gearbox of the old a4.

this engine has tons of torque and good efficiency. it even has more torque than the 320i. slightly lesser than the 328i.

if you want no frills driving. this a4 is really good. shouldnt have many problem in the first 4 years of owning as it is CBU.

but parts can be a bitch after

also, the a4 has more specs than the measly specced 320i

a4 has:
- electric blinds
- 10 speakers
- paddle shifters
- 6 CD changer
- Damping control (ours is only throttle control?)

Euromobil's after sales is horrendous. Forget about after warranty, these buggers don't even have sufficient stocks of fast moving parts! Honestly, the F30 is a far better car. IMHO these teething problem are common with newly launched BMWs. Remember the F10 issues? Pretty quietened down already right? I can live with some rusty seat trays and dash trims that are a few mm out of line. Doesn't fundamentally alter the fun a BMW brings. But hey, that's just me. You pay your money and you take your chances.

cannot agree more with you bro. I still remember my very first visit to Eruromobil, i was asked to come again next time as they are closing the shop already (yeah, i was late but there are still few people around when i arrive). If some think that BMW have poor service pre or post sales, no offense ya but I think Audi have worse.

Thats why Audi Group wants to establish Audi Malaysia to start running their dealerships here. Apparently their target for Euromobil was to have 100 dealers by the end of 2012 and they only managed 3 or 4.

with the F30 prices I pay and feed almost 200% more of the actual price to the goverment, yes I would jump on my dealer or SA.

it's like buying a durian that claims to be musang king but does not taste like it.

Is it same like you pay for ah moy but getting ah kua rite?

Go for a long test drive..don't take the round the block drive, most SAs will accommodate if you are serious. For me the A4 was not even anywhere in the same class where driving dynamics was concerned. The Merc C Class was much closer to the F30 and much better than the A4 .

In terms of inside room, F30 wins over both C Class and A4. The A4 feels absolutely cramped inside. Some call it cosy.

In terms of teething problems and I have had my fair share, they are all being sorted out, just that we need to give some time. A4 since 2008, C Class has been around for some time too. The upside is the F30 will be around for much longer.

In terms of wind noise, F30 is not as good compared to the C Class, I didn't bother with taking the A4 to high speeds after driving it for a few miles. But the F30 could be comparatively quiet, depending on what you are driving right now.

It boils down to what turns you on where cars are concerned.

Wah...that's a good testimony for F30!

To me though, 3 things that really stand out in F30: i) power/speed - just to try it, I finally reached 200km/hr without any effort at all, beyond that I didn't dare, not too mention had broken the law...so now waiting for AES summon to arrive, ii) the look - it is quite contagious, the more you look at the rear or front, the better it look comparatively, beside I have a German style plate no, also pasted a Bayern Sticker on the circle :) and last but not least iii) the braking system - it's so confident and obedient....well that's my testi bro!

Yep. Audi SA very bad attitude. Just early last yr my fren looking to replace ride. Went into showroom, SA not only not serve had to say to my fren this car A4 can you afford it. Needless to say he left showroom immediately with disgust. He end up with good deal the of the e90 stock clearance but kicking himself shouldhave waited for the f30 :)

Concur depends on what you favour more drive dynamics - power n handling or comfort. Up to the individual, your money ;) how best you want to spend

CVT very smooth for town driving and new generation of CVT give great fuel consumption. Only issue with CVT is when rempit, you feel its like rubberband. RPM up fast but speedo not as fast.

Is it just me, but don't y'all find CVT to be an absolute sacrilege...?!! No respecting Conti with sporting pretensions should come with CVT. Leave that for the Hybrids! To me lah, the A4 1.8T is a no-no coz CVT is a deal-breaker. The 2.0T with S-Tronic (DSG) is a totally different ballgame. The 8-speeder on F30 320i (even non-sports) is still ahead of the curve.

So the points in favor of F30, better gear box, better engine, newer look, and yes, better dynamics. On the quality issues, I recall my brother had a problem with his B8's engine that took not weeks, but months to resolve, firstly the technical bit, then the bill coz it was so terminal (timing belt snapped), he rightly felt Audi Malaysia should foot the bill. They eventually agreed to pay half. I have owned the E36, E46 and E92 for years without enduring the heartache he had. As for the F30, there are issues, but it hasn't robbed me of enjoying its wonderful dynamics.

CVT can out accelerate torque converters most of the time. people are just not used to it (rubberband feel).

it is not as involving as you cannot switch the gears manually (or hear the shifts). traditionalist usually will hate CVT. but CVT in theory, is much much more advance.

Your fren should fuck the SA off la. I hate dealing with car salesman. Most of them are stupid and snobbish

when my bro to see and buy his a4, i was with him. service from the salesman was very good.

got free coffee and also hardcover booklets.

we went to the one at Imbi. not sure if the bad service was from another branch or person?
