I think he's adding a heavy tinge of sarcasm in his posting hehe

I guess it's common courtesy that when one walks into another's home, you can offer an opinion or two but you do not go out of your way to criticize the host's design, choice of colors, furniture etc.

Good to hear you agreed. You should take the lead by changing your avatar first, which is NOT the obvious choice. And it doesn't jive with you name as well.

In case you missed it, I believe E46Fanatic's statement was firmly tongue in cheek.

On a separate note, wow Audi has closed bookings for the A6h? Shows how much wealth is still around when 900+ units of a 280k car can be snapped up in 3 weeks.

Well it is a very good value. I'd have probably booked one too, if not for the fact that there is no Audi service center in Perak and I'd have to go to Klang Valley to service it.

It should last longer than a Ni-MH battery in Prius or Insight, since this is a Li-On unit. On top Audi has built in 2 cooling system into coolling the battery. So it should last long enough, I hope. Anyway the warranty is quite good at 4 years, as compare to other premium makes.

In fact the 900+ orders was snapped up in 12 days, not 3 weeks.

my 2 bits are:

In all honesty the replacement cost of the battery is more than offset by the import duty and excise duty exemption... plus in 4 uears time it maybe a new generation of batteries doubling the capacty of current batteries....

plus i just do not know why the importers of the hybrid cars in malaysia do not add the solar panels for the roof like they have for the USA Prius... i mean if there is any country where this would be great it would be here....

According to my SA, they were briefed in training that the battery, under normal usage (no major accident or flood affected), Audi Germany has guided that the battery pack should last the lifetime of the car circa 10-15 years.

I think it's believable as the low end NiMH pack in Prius is famously reliable tho' used as a taxi in the States, able to provide faithful service beyond 8 years without replacement

Just wondering, would the heat in our country actually affects the lifespan of the battery? I bet Audi conducted all their tests in the EU, which average temperature over there is much lower than ours.

heat is the major challange for the batteries in normal use and that is why the local CBU hybrids has at least 1 to 2 vents from the car to the batteries to keep them cool.

There is no such thing as batteries that lasts 10 years. Even at a 0.5c discharge rate it will not last 15 years. I dealt with lipo batteries. Does not exist.

Even if the "actual" battery lifespan is halved 5 years, the price looks very attractive.

Well, if you read Paul Tan's review of the Mitsubishi I-Miev, the japs have guided that at the end of a 10 year lifespan, the battery will still retain 70% efficiency

You can also google stories of Prius battery durability too, so its no myth.

With Audi A6h employing Li-Ion and active cooling capabilities, Audi has claimed better endurance and performance of their hybrid interpretation

From Audi web

The lithium-ion battery is cooled by air in two ways, depending on the requirement. At low-temperature load, it draws temperate air from the vehicle interior by way of a fan. If its temperature exceeds a certain limit, a separate refrigerant circuit is activated. It is coupled to the climate control system of the Audi A6 hybrid and uses a separate evaporator. This powerful active cooling system greatly helps the sedan to travel relatively long distances on electric power alone.
