hi there.. FYI, I just change my gearbox oil.. to answer your question

1- when? any time.. if you competent enough, you can DIY.. heheh... no la just kidding.. it's about time to change.. ZF oil.. 7 L..including transmission filter. My specialist recommended to change oil every 20k and transmission filter every 50k.
2. engine oil.. after googling around, finally I chose Petronas Syntium 3000 5w40.. you can use any brand engine oil.. mostly recommended fully synthetic but honestly speaking, semi synthetic 10w-40 will not cause any harm if you keep changing engine oil every 5k.
3. Please use internet accordingly. I gather all info regarding E90 mostly by searching.. My car also 325i E90 but no m3.. hehehe

TQ bro.................

Bro, do you seriously believe your 325i E90 is an M3?

M3 is an M3, 325i is just that. Different car.

M3 = BMW 3 series mar.. :24:

Or... maybe his is a real M3 but detuned the badge to 325i.. if M3, your engine oil should be TWS 10w-60.. :4:

E90 M3 = 4,000 cc V8

Please check your engine, if M3, should look like this,

Hi,
Since my car has clocked 52k, I decided to carry out an ATF change + replace filter + do flushing (using a flushing machine).

Could feel the gear change is smoother after that. Subsequently read a post by a forumer in E90post that it is a big NO NO
to flush the automatic transmission! Now a bit perplexed, worried that damaged could have been done. On the other hand,
could not comprehend how a flush job could cause harm to the engine.

Any input from sifus here? My car is a 325i N52N on GM gearbox.

Regards.

rayncc,

Since your car has only clocked 52k km, it should be ok to flush your GB. Cars that has clocked high milelage and had not had any ATF oil + filter change at all has a higher risk of when flushing is used. Contaminations or residue from old AFT oil may get stuck at the solenoids / valve body as a result of the flushing.

Hi,

Can recommend me which shop do good job for flushing of gearbox n engine using machine n chemical / flushing oil etc? Not those normal flushing using standard ATF oil. Thanks.

I think flushing is not necessary; some say it will do more harm than good. Maybe just a normal oil change will be suffice.

i also heard of that too. but normal oil change cannot solve some of the problem.

Unless your GB is throwing out error codes and/or experiencing problems, an ATF flush may or may not resolved these problems. If your GB is operating normally, I don't see a need for an ATF flush other than to fatten the wallet of the workshop.

I'm going to do the 2nd change soon. Mileage now is 150K. First change at 70K, done at Ingress. Went to AB KL last week, they seems reluctant to do it, saying might create problem. Quoting many cases before. If proceed, will not be responsible for any mishap to the box etc. Feel a bit annoyed with the statement. Despite a week advance appointment, I have to wait for another day since they don't keep stock. What a crap!

For your info, BMW and its authorised dealers do not repair gearbox nor do they replace the long-life ATF fluid (long-life is a matter of interpretation). Hence, the reluctant of dealer to replace ATF fluid. If any problem arise with your gearbox, dealer's SOP is to replace it with a new one.

Yup the ATF fluid can last a lifetime la. Just like how BMW advises oil changes at 30k and end up changing new engine. LOL

i previosuly posted a bmw brochure i found at AB that BMW recommends that the so called their "lifelong" ATF be changed at 60k intervals. if done diligently i think should not be a problem and not to be too worried about it.

My other car, a year 2002 made Toyota Altezza (5AT) with current mileage 195k has changed ATF numerous times; averaging 15k ATF change intervals (regular change as preventive maintenance some more Toyota Type IV ATF not too expensive). Auto gearbox smooth & no ill-effects. Aisin Seiki manufactured that gearbox, maybe BMW should source gearboxes from others instead from ZF or GM...
