steering rack rosak !!!!

AB Glanmerie did mention another batch of upgrade steering rack will be available somewhere end june or mid july. Im waiting to changed for 3rd time and really fed up. just ignore the sound lor.. anyone facing the same prob make sure to change during ur warranty since the steering rack is really costly (12k)..

pls share any update on this matter. I hate the a-la 'worn-lower-arm-bush' knocking sound. after driving other F30s, I can confirm all cars make this sound; only some are louder than others.

Ain't the warranty period 3 years? If BMW does not fix the problem, I think it's the same no matter how many times they change the steering rack. It's probably a design fault.

P/S: I got my steering rack changed twice too. I share your feeling.

I changed mine twice and it is still as bad if not worst. Especially so when go over uneven roads and turning left. Terrible sound like worn bush and arms..... Can't really accept it as it really spoils the ride tremendously. I don't know how all you brothers can still tahan it and praise the car so much. The UDM is only applicable if it's drive perfectly and in this case, much as we adore the engine power etc, the ride is spoilt by the rack and suspension system. Not fun at all

I just had mine changed yesterday, and the SA told me is version 4 steering rack. The knocking sound got much improved but Still early to tell whether it is solved.

Leoabp, can you describe 'much improved'? Is it gone or still can hear the knock going over speed humps? BMW should be recalling this part but I have a feeling that they don't have a definite fix, hence don't dare to announce to its customers.

I drove around my usual path, where usually I heard the knocking sound, and so far I don't hear the knocking sound yet. The noise on uneven road also much quiet now. Hopefully it is really gone.

I got mine replaced in quill pj. They took about 3-4 weeks to get the part from Germany, and only 1 day for installation.

i collected my drive on friday after changing the steering rack.
the immediate feedback is steering become heavy and more bmw-ish response, knocking sound still there but very minimal. hope i dont need to claim 2nd time..
currently the annoying part is cabin rattling noise which only can hear occasionally. i couldn't find out the exact source of noise, and the noise totally disappear when the mechanic was testing the car.. :motz:

Seems like a design in need of improvement. Mine still once in a while....

I couldn't agree more, what kind of enjoyment is there when there are knock sounds going through every speed hump, now there's even clicking noises from the steering boss when turning, it's not acceptable whether it's a BMW or Proton.

It seems to be many version of stories from bmw SA from different dealer as well..mine saying that there is no new version of steering rack produced by bmw yet..what bmw did was try to fix d problem on 2013 model onwards but not by replacing d steering rack with newer version..my 2013 f30 still having d same issue having said that

I did not get my old one back. What I did notice after the change is similar to the rest. Steering feels heavier and noise is minimal but still audible.

So that's mean they probably just tighten the steering up, make it harder to move around. Quite sad huh..?
