wondering if a garage specializing in drift cars can do some magic mod on this...adjust caster / camber etc etc...coz it seems like this issue is within their area of expertise...coz im sure steering is surely an important component for drifting

anyone knows a good reliable garage / workshop that probably can do this...do update :)

Silbi, I sent you a PM with all the info a while ago lol. I have sent you another one. Would cost about RM550+ for the column. This part will fix your freeplay but it may not fix your tramlining issue. There are way too many variables for us to diagnose over the internet. You will need to go to a reputable shop for them to diagnose your tramlining issue. MPS auto will be able to help with alignment.

Can you get us the specs of your alignment? If your toe settings are off it can cause your car to tramline. Toe-out gives the car better turn in but does become more twitchy at high speeds.

There are a multitude of things. Were you already running 17's previously with no issues? I can't really remember what parts you changed. Were the front control arm bushings changed? Maybe they put in the wrong ones. One has a central hole and one is offset. Could cause your suspension geometry to be out. The offset bushings were only used on the 95 M3. However, if everything was fine before and this only happened after your "new" rack was changed then the rack is the problem. Were you having tramlining issues before? If you were not, changing the steering rack only change toe because the tie-rods would have to be taken off the old rack and onto the new one. Was the alignment done again after the new rack?

Have you spoken to the shop that installed the new rack? Tell them the problems you are having and question their rack. If anything, they can try to reinstall your old rack and see if it is the same. I still think your freeplay issue is the bushing on the column. You wont fix that no matter how many racks you change.

I am just throwing ideas out there, I can't give you definite answers but I hope it helps.

thx for the detailed reply bro...

will check...and yes, i've done alignments a few times already...just recently found some good places...one place uses that old skool green type metal alignment machine...no fancy computer diagnose tool...heard only 'experts' uses this type of machine...sadly they can't really fix the tramlining for now coz they suspect the rack is the culprit

silbi, I don't get why your car is tramlining more with less play lol. This rack has less play than the previous one right?

If possible, ask them to check for play in the steering column. They have to be holding the column itself and not the wheels though. Will be misdiagnosed if done this way.

better already actually...i guess i'm jsut being nitpicky now ...just need to enjoy the ride and complain less lol

btw - did my alignment here... Tai Soon in Batu Caves...it did improved my alignment., sadly they can't perfect it if a car has poor components..saw some Audi,Porsches and Ferrari there....an the price is very reasonable...

just check out their alignment ol skool machine...if i'm not mistaken it's from Spain butonly experts can use this i guess ...no need for computerised stuff here :)

highly recommended! :)

oh another thing...they really take time to align your car....they'll test-measure-test-measure....until they get the perfect alignment ... and they do on wheel balancing too to get the perfect balance....really still impressed with the service until now...

just did my old honda jazz for alignment + balancing earlier... cost around rm100+ coz they needed to do some camber change etc there....but the result was worth the price ... will be back to send my other cars for sure. Sadly my E36 has some issues so i can't really be purely saved lol :)

silbi ...can let me and some members test your car out .... :) a couple of wheel spins and drifto will get ya car back in shape .. :)

mana itu SLYDER ...

haha....drift?? for real...

ok je...as long as can 'improve' it and not thrash it lol

but i beginning to 'accept' the 'handling' now....although im not sure if it's normal or not :p

Yes Iceman? Silbi already have good advices given here. but like what iceman says perhaps coming and meeting us to compare the handling would be a good reference check.
