I have been driving my BMW E60 525i with N52 engine for more than a year now. So far I have not encountered any serious problem related to this model. My grave concern was the makan minyak hitam issue but after more than 60000km drive with engine oil change (Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40) every 10000km, I'm very satisfied with my JOY :top: :rock:But after a while, I started to get itchy :D wanted to do something different to my already perfect (well, at least to me) ride. Knowing the fact that there is about 218bhp under the hood, I can't help but to think of ways to further ENHANCE its performance hence this thread. Maybe the input from all the forumers (no matter you are E60 owner or not) can help to shed some lights to those who want to add extra hp :wink:Apart from aesthetic enhancement - Hamann front lip (sudah pecah.. no more coz got problem going into carparks with steep slope), Hamann diffuser (to accommodate my quad exhaust), Angel iBright v3 white angel eye ring marker, chrome front grille, some customised stickers...... I feel like giving it extra horsepower. So what do you think? So far I have only added Remus Quad Exhaust! With significant backpressure reduction, my E60's pick up and acceleration has improved compared to when using stock twin exhaust :top: sounds nicer ie. deep sporty yet non-intrusive sound. It is claimed that performance gain as high as 3-5% is achievable (Factors like car make, model, engine size, exhaust restriction and rev ranges play an important role). So... what else can be done in order to add extra oommpphhhh??? I have actually listed a few:1) Supercharger - ESS, G-Power, etc... but it's way out of my league. I can't afford these stuff which easily cost more than 5 digits2) Light weight crank pulley - last time I checked, there was no pulley available for E60 with N52 engine. But for M54 engine got lah (take note). Gain of 10% is claimed!3) Exhaust Manifold - Have been looking around for a custom exhaust shop that can convince me to do this job as I don't want any potential problem. so far I have listed a few shops such as JFA & Torque Gear (Sunway) but haven't got time to approach them yet. Places like Xin Exhaust advertise for about RM1800 for stainless steel (I wonder what grade) but I am sceptical about this shop. Anyone can share some info here? What is the performance after changing the manifold? 4) ECU Remap - I think this has been discussed extensively everywhere by almost everyone. My research conclude that there are many BMW specialists around Klang Valley that can get this job done. Damage? RM2500-4500 (different place quotes different price) :D performance gain about 5-10%P.S: for those who want to do re-mapping, do all the modifications before the re-mapping ok? So they can do dyno on your car before determining the optimum setting for your car :top: this is what told by some friends of mine5) Drilled Slot Front & Rear Brake Rotors - well, no gain in power but definitely will improve your braking. Cross drilled and slotted rotors are engineered to provide maximum heat dissipation for dependable and safe braking under extreme braking conditions. The combination of the cross drilled holes and slots enables the braking surface to be cleaner thus providing improved friction bite under wet and dry conditions. Also don't forget to replace the stock rubber brake hose with Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Hose (lifetime warranty). This brand is said to be the OEM supplier for Brembo performance brake kit. Cost about RM500++6) Air Intake - normally our stock air filter does not offer the optimum performance to our car. That is why companies like K&N and BMC offer drop-in air filter to replace factory stock, which in turn offers small gain in power. Of course, for more performance... high end stuff like Gruppe M which cost somewhere in the region of RM4-5k can offer the desired result. But it's too expensive (to me). That is why I have ordered this aFe Magnum FORCE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake System for E60 525i and 530i (year 2006-) from the US. FYI, the product number is #54-11042 so those who are interested. Have been googling around and so far the feedback has been encouraging. That is why I have ordered one unit of this from a shop in US... damage? RM1700 including custom and tax... sigh! Should have asked the shop to declare lower value in order to save the tax... below is the picture

Basically that's all I know for the moment... any input will be highly appreciated. Hopefully this discussion will serve as the base for those who want to beautify and enhance their current ride!

7) H&R anti roll bar - improve handling

8) Coilovers - improve handling

9) lighter wheels -

p/s: for N52 (magnesium engine) there is no force-induction offerings at the moment

thanks for the input bro... forgot to add the anti roll bar tim :D my bad my bad!
as for coilovers... my current stock M-Sport is already hard enough! my wifey has been complaining everytime I drive from Pahang to KL.. sigh!
As for lighter wheels.. well, I am quite picky with sport rims... for the moment, I am satisfied with the stock BMW Type 168 M-Sport rims but drooling over the Breyton Race GTS 18" (not that light but somehow I love it..) which cost about RM8500 for original and RM3.8k for Taiwan replica. Can't go for 19" or else it will be more bumpy plus the road condition in my place doesn't allow for bigger rims :D

As for your claim that the N52 has no force inductions offering at the moment.. I have asked the a few sellers in US and UK and they said OK wor... don't know la... will receive my product in these few days. Let you know about the result later ok? Also will try to capture video to put in YouTube :D

try power box. new piggyback add on similar like juice box. You can have 7 different maps to choose from.

bro,
PM me the retail price. and if I am interested (of course has to be within budget) I will try to exercise my bargaining skills with you :D

Bro thule,
Have you got your order and installed the aFe intake? If you can share your impression would be great. I was tempted to get aFe intake before but ended up with RPI air scoop.

Hey Kazuya,
I am currently waiting for the aFe intake to be released from our very own blood-sucking Kastam Malaysia :thefinger: should be arriving sometime this week or next I think
No worries, I will definitely post the result in this thread to be shared among E60 owners :top: after all, good things have to be shared

Hey guys,
I have installed the aFe intake on my E60 & may I say that it sounds great when accelerating :D
the car is being serviced at M1 PJ now & therefore I don't know the exact performance yet but wait until it's finished :top:
YouTube video & pictures will be posted up soon!

"the car is being serviced at M1 PJ now"

Ha ha, that's why you have the time now to read and post in the forum while waiting for them to finish their job. I am sure we all will gladly collect back our keys from the mechanic once the job is done and happily drive our machine away with a wide grin on our face. Everything would always seem to be tip top and good at that moment - our feeling always play on us this way.

Just to side track a bit, even when i just asked my mechanic to check whether my car's suspension needs to be changed or not, without any works being done, after he passed the key back to me and I drove the car, somehow or rather i felt that the car drives smoothly as if the suspension has been changed. Again it is the feeling playing on us :burnout: (until reality strikes )

Just be careful whether there will be any side effect of the MAF running extra rich now that there are more air coming in.

I have to say that it's very boring waiting for them to finish the job. But it's interesting to see them working. At least I know that they don't toy with my car :D
as a matter of fact I don't know when my happy face will show, as they seem to encounter some problem in replacing my rear wheel bearing!
Don't worry I will monitor the MAF carefully..

Hey guys.. I'm finally back to the office! Last week was torturous for me coz I was so nervous if the aFe Power intake wouldn't fit into my E60! Turn out to be GREAT :top: and as promised, here are the pictures (ENJOY!):

aFe Power Logo with parts number on the bottom right corner (this is for N52 engine only so for M54 it's different)

Engine bay of E60 (can you spot the aFe intake?)

Closer look at the air intake... it comes with a casing to protect it!

From the sideway...

MAF sensor! Fits just nice!

After the installation which seems to take forever, my car was finally ready to be tested! Significant improvement to the pick up (from standstill) and acceleration to this 1.5 ton beast :top: on the performance gained I don't know... I'm not that technical but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to FEEL the improvement right?

downside??? hmmm.. my wife still doesn't know that I've installed the air intake yet, but she somehow commented that the car is noisier everytime I accelerated my car :D I just brushed this aside and told her that it was from my Remus Quad Exhaust! For those who can't accept the GROANING noise of the air intake, please don't install it ok? But I've got to say this... it does sound GREAT! I've yet to take a video to be posted on Youtube,, so give me some time ok??

P.S: And I've been told that there's no air intake that can fit into E60 yet :thefinger:

Best regards,
Leo

Hi Thule, great to hear that. So it did bring a mighty big grin to your face, stretching from ear to ear.:D

try this as seen those e39 guys smilling away after the ECU remapping done by bernard from BVO singapore ..

After filming the video secretly while my wife's not around... and the long time taken just to upload onto Youtube, I present to you... about 1 min but the objective is to listen to the Groaning sound right?? Enjoy...

Thule,

Tkns for posting the video & the clear description. Its a nice hissing sound at idle, and increasing to a groaning sucking sound when revved. Fitting looks perfect too. Im sure many 5-series owners are drooling...Take the wife shooping & buy her a pair of shoes...she won't notice any 'hissing' sound after that!

Cheers.

Ah gilajazz,

The groaning sound really gave me goosebumps... better than the MOANING sound when watching certain a-movie :D
Yeah.. that's the idea. I have been going to a few shops such as Exotic Mods, Eurocar Motorsports and Redzone... but they told me that there is no air intake taht can fit E60 except for Gruppe M which easily cost RM4-5k! So I just utilised GOOGLE, did some research.. ask some questions and wah lah... I've got myself a rocking air intake which cost more than half of what Gruppe M's damage!! Could have saved more if I asked the US seller to declare lower value for the air intake.. sigh! Oh well... will be wiser next time I guess :D
Lastly... good idea on the shopping thingy :top: that might just shut her up once and for all :D
