Agree with you on that. There again older cars have their radiator fans on all time those which are belt driven and not electrically controlled . W124's trademark is the noisy fan.. Can hear it from very far away hahahaha...

The really really old RWDs are running a fixed fan attached to the crank pulley while the Merc is using a fan clutch (a little advance) that only locks it in when temperature is up and this clutch in the Merc is pretty problematic because often fail and result in overheating.
