My friend just bought a UK 07 E60 523i with the DI engine. He didn't realise that this engine needs fuel with less than 10ppm sulphur content. I told him that our fuel may not be suitable for his car. He is now panicking as he has just paid over RM290k for this car just weeks ago. Anyone knows if the engine will survive our 800ppm sulphur content Euro2 petrol???

i dun think the N53 is suitable here as it uses a very high pressure piezo injectors that requires low sulfur content fuel...this is the reason why BMW Malaysia introduce the e60 LCI with only the N52N engines and not the N53's that certain country with low sulfur fuel only get for their LCI...just my opinion though...

Scaling will form around the injector and clog it up real fast. Australia also don't get this engine due to their high sulfur content petrol.. same here.

You should write to Bosch and ask them what will happen to there piezo injector and how to overcome if we die die want to run the engine here. Can frequent use of injector cleaner get rid of the sulfur deposit on the injector?

anybody else who has this engine in their car and would like to share their experience. My friend says that the VW Passat actually runs the same DI engine in Malaysia and there seems to be no problem. Perhaps it is too early to tell.
