Recently, I replaced the top wind shield rubber surround. The original rubber had cracked and some parts had broken off. To my surprise, it's much cheaper than those for E34. In the case of E34 similar replacement there were 2 piece item which cost around RM350.00 each.

My usual painter cum wind shield expert, said this E38 is very simple and can use Honda's wind shield rubber. So he took some recycle (old) rubber from Honda and installed them. They are Honda Authorised Panel Repairer and the rubbers are actually quite new looking. The end result very good and very original.

Cost : FREE.

He said just buy me lunch.

So here is a good tip for the rubber replacement for E38's

Not necessary to remove the windscreen. But have to remove the two side panels.

as usual....where's the shop, it should be good as always..care to share?:love:

Bro, you are right. They are good but they are also pricey too. Remember my award winning cars like Ferrari Red E34, my Cheyene E32 plus my Electric Blue M/Benz 300CE24V were painted by them.

Anyway it's CMS Express in USJ 7 Contact Mr Chong 012-3993168

There's also an E32 repair manual here

http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E32/Index.htm

Thanks for link Vincent! Really good information. :top: That site probably summed up all the niggling problems my car used to have, or those I might look out for. Haha. Good DIY tips too, although I shouldn't dabble with fixing the headlights myself in case I might mess things up...

Just installed a front strut bar (Ultra Racing) in my transporter over the weekend. It has made a noticeable difference in the handling of the car - the front is a lot more composed and cornering is more precise with less body roll. I would highly recommend this relatively cheap and simple mod for the E38.

Thanks Vincent - might get Albert to try this this Friday if he has time. I have also done research on this and the permanent fix would be to replace the ribbon that connects to the back of the MID. Not too sure if this ribbon is available here in Malaysia though online it retails for approx EUR25 - it looks like quite a delicate job to replace though. I wonder whether they are any workshops here in KL that have done this before as any mistakes would permanent damage the unit

Max, I think those ribbons are sold on as is basis meaning without the connectors. It's probably best to get someone who is good at delicate electonics soldering to attach the connectors. Once that is done the rest is easier i.e. just plug & play.

Missed my E38 badly. Albert collected the car from my house on Sunday morning to do some work like replacing the power windows (3), all window glass, chrome trims, side mouldings and door rubbers.

It's a really very expensive fix if one is buying new parts. Anyway I found a good Japan half cut car and bought all the four doors.

Maintaining an E38 isn't so expensive if you know where to send your car and where to get your parts. So far my cost has been very minimal.

sweet - is your car still at Alberts? - will be heading over there tomorrow am.
