Thanks for the tip. My first time there hence used their stuffs.. Would allow if you were to bring your own stuffs? Ie purely labour / service charges?

don't just look at what is being paid for if its ur first or second or even third visit. build a relationship with ur mechanic, then u'll see the difference it makes.
Concur with abang gendong. Build the relationship and you shall see the difference. Anyway, I do recall that Optimum doesn't allow you to bring your own parts.

finally after owning my 320d for 2 years i've decided to put on the power kit..

does anyone know anywhere that gives a good deal and how much the power kit cost now so i can go do some comparison and haggling?

Check out Quill or Wearnes. Should be around RM7k range.

Not sure if they have many sets left at that price. If you are seriously interested, best to check with the dealers ASAP.

Hey dudes.. Just did a service in Optimum. So just FYI on the charges.

Ravenol 10w60 RM285 (4li) needs 5 (they only stock 10w60 variant for Ravenol
ATF Ravenol Dex3 RM69/li needs 6
Oil Filter RM105
AT oil pan RM 445
AT adaptor RM94

Inspection and svc RM180 and... Ada service tax
That is a very heavy oil to use on a 320d. Do you feel that the car is sluggish?

I cant exactly feel the difference honestly. But then I did poured in a bottle of Tufoil... probably compensated for it someway...

That's the only variant of ravenol available in optimum

Hi guys,

Been awhile since i posted here. My car is already at 100k and will be sending for service at gloriang (new sunway shop) this saturday. Any advise on what i should ask them to check for??

So far i got no problem with the car, it still runs smoothly. ATF have been changed at 70K so next change will be at 140K.

Pls let us know ur feedback on gloriang's services & price. Im looking forward to service there as well

I send my car there to be service, Jack is good. At 100k km, should ask him to do a full diagnostic check.

For me I would replace all fluids, brake fluids, hydraulic steering fluid, rear differential and of course the standard engine oil change with the filter.

Ask him to check the timing chain as well.

Thanx bro Mavik for the tips. Will definitely remind jack to check everything.

FZainol, this is going to be my fourth time sending my car to Jack. He is good like bro Mavik said. And he's easy to get along. Price wise i would say he is reasonable. I sent to him also after reading comments from guys here, mostly all send to him :)

Hi Mavik,

I thought that the whole engine needs to withdraw from the engine bay to inspect or replace the timing chain? I think I read it from other section of the forum. Please shed some light on this because I also like to know more about this.

Yes to replace, inspection can be done without withdrawing the whole engine. That is according to the BMW Service Advisor who informed me when they changed mine last time.

How many of you guys experienced timing chain problem? Its scary as it will not pop up any fault message prior to the failure of the chain. Of course the best preventive measure up until now is to get it inspected each of service interval. Listen carefully to your car is maybe a good thing to do too. But is there any permanent solution to this?

ck82,

Permanent solution is to get the car checked & replace the following items under the warranty period. BMW has came up with revised versions of the parts in 2011. Badboyz3 & Mavik has got theirs replaced under warranty. An out of warranty job + parts will cost around RM7k at the SC, with chunk of the cost coming from labour alone (RM5k).

Timing chain (3), sprocket (3), chain guides (4) and chain tensioners (2)

It is however should be noted that fault is not the chain itself but excessively sharp sprockets which causes the chain to wear & fail prematurely. Excessively sharp edges were present on the sprockets, the chain does not flow evenly over the guides.

Engines affected are those produced from 01.03.2007 to 01.03.2011.

Of course one can always listen to the engine to check for potential signs but problem is unless one is an expert, what you hear will only be the diesel clatter.

Thanks to Wingzee for detailed explanations.
As mine was produced back in August 2011. However, I'm still a bit concern regarding the durability of those improved version parts. Furthermore, I can't be sure if these improved parts were installed in my ride. I think the best solution for me now is to get it inspected by experts.

Hi Mavik & Badboyz3,
Was your timing chain replaced upon request prior fail? Because I doubt BMW will replace them if they think those parts are still in good condition. Anyway, did you guys face any problem after the replacement?

Thanks all sifus.
