How are your 320d doing so far?

Hi all, driving a 2012 F30 320d currently. I noticed after my oil change the engine clatter has gotten much louder at idle or at low revs when ur taking a slow turn. Right after regular service, I poured in a bottle of Tuffoil, supposedly works on petrol and Diesel engines.

Initially I thought its my own psychology but just this evening I tested another 320d at idle and it was much quieter than mine.

Could it be after service, the oil hasn't really break down?

Could it Tuffoil?

Could it be Petronas diesel brand?

Most of us 320d boys use Ravenol 5W 30 motor oil and engine becomes very smooth and quiet. 57 ringgit per litre. We go to Gloriang's in USJ 1 Mechanic's name is Jack. Supergood n superhonest mechanic! His HP number is 0166603181. Speaks very good English, Malay and Chinese. He has whatsapp too.

Since I did mine at Ingress Segambut, they definitely had used Castrol and I believe should be 5W30. Guess next service might try Gloriang. The car is still under BSRI, so if I were to do one outside of BSRI at my cost, just wanna make sure Gloriang would use genuine oil filter or whatever stuff that would not give BMW a reason to void my warranty?

good news ?

[h=3]Can BioPro Diesel be the green energy alternative?[/h]

Few days ago Bernama carried an interesting article about BioPro Diesel, claimed to a breakthrough fuel invented by researchers from University of Malaya. If it is true to what the BioPro is billed for, this could probably solve the issues of palm oil wastes and pollution related to wastes disposal.

The super-clean diesel

BioPro diesel is derived from palm oil waste through bioprocess, i.e. using enzymes in a low pressure, low temperature process.

Codename : Biopro Diesel TM, or BPD100
Cost : RM1.50/litre
Unique feat : 100% from palm oil waste (compare: biodiesel is 80% diesel and 20% palm oil)
Compliance : Euro 2M and Euro 4M emission standards
Acid content : 0.2 mg/KOH/g
(compare: other EURO 2M/4M compliant diesel have recorded a max. 0.25 mg/KOH/g)

Comparative studies between BioPro Diesel and conventional diesel

Vehicle used : 10-year-old Mitsubishi pickup
Method : driven to travel 100 km
Using conventional diesel : costs RM28 (US$9)
Using BioPro (BPD100) : costs RM16 (US$5)
Saving : up to 45%
Engine RPM : lower by 500rpm when using BioPro Diesel

Others advantages:
- lesser soot, less polluting
- will not clog fuel filters
- can be used in any diesel engines with no modification needed

Big potential

Malaysia currently has about 420 palm oil mills mostly located in Johor, Sabah and Selangor, the potential is huge. UM scientists estimated that based on BioPro price of RM1.50/liter, total revenue from these palm oil mills could be up to RM40 billion per year.

The investment? RM12 million is needed for a palm oil affluent process plant to produce 25 tonnes of BioPro diesel daily. The byproducts created during the extraction process can be used as fertilizer and water, which can then be reused at other industry applications.

I think it's just a study by some university students on the feasibility, that's about it. It will need some massive action by the government to kickstart this BioPro diesel.

If they're serious about diesel, they would have at least upgraded the diesel to Euro 4 by now. Reality is, most diesels are used for commercial reasons such as fishing, industrial equipment and industrial vehicles which does not require Euro 4. Us diesel car owners represent a miniscule percentage of the nation's consumption and there's absolutely no reason for the government to push for Euro 4 urgently. Wouldn't say they won't push for it but not so soon.

Besides, nobody's gonna bear the cost of upgrading equipments to facilitate Euro 4, not in these times where our nation's finances are kinda on a deficit.

Lastly, it seems the government's is moving towards hybrid/electric vehicles, which is another stumbling block towards cleaner diesel. They'd rather splash money to facilitate and increase the use of EV's.

The 320d is more efficient than Prius C plus great power.
I have read some newspaper about the same report, it said the biopro diesel can run 4x the mileage... Really bullshit.
The about saving of 45% is by cost, not by efficiency

Hi all, Isit recommended to chage your ATF?? My car is already 80k now.. I asked AB service guy before, they say they dont do any ATF change, just reset gears.. So what do sifus say?? Btw, am sending my car for service at gloriang tomorrow

change.. not just change... do a flush.. i did a comprehensive explanation in one of the 530D atf thread earlier today.

Hey guys...just want to check what is the average fuel consumption on your E90 320d? Mine one is 9.8l/100km as I don't really impress with the result. Mostly drive in city with gentle as well. Hope to hear some feedback from anyone on how to improve the fuel consumption.

That is rather high, I am getting on average around 8.0L/100km and that is pure city driving and getting stuck in traffic jams.

Hey Mavik. Yeah that's why I'm getting frustrated to see the fuel consumption is getting bad. Any idea to share what is the root cause or any method to improve it? My 320d is original stuff with none modification at all. And use to pump mostly Caltex & Petronas.

Try sticking with Petronas. I get poor FC as well with Caltex.

Also what is your car's current mileage? 40,000km? Or more? Or less?

Try using a can of injector cleaners during your next refill.

My current mileage just passed 73k. I find that Caltex is pretty smooth driving that's why I often take Caltex so I try switch to Petronas and observe it.

By the way, any brand recommend for the injector cleaners and any idea where to get it? Highly appreciate with your advise.

Actually any brand is ok, can get from places like ACE Hardware. Find those for diesel only ya.

Otherwise if you check at Atmosphere motorsport vendor section, they do a jetronic cleaning, I did it once at 40,000km but didn't feel any difference.

Was reading thru some US based truck diesel forums discussing the use of various injector cleaners for Diesel engines. Interestingly, some opinioned that injector cleaners are gimmicks added with some ethanol(or some fuel boosters) that's meant to give the wow factor after you poor some into the fuel tank. With the additive, it makes you think the injectors are cleaned since you're getting the extra oomph. Their reasoning is that there are various filters between the fuel tank all the way to the injectors hence it's not easy for gum built up at the injectors.

Again, it's their prerogative considering the types of fuel they get. On our side, we are getting Euro2M fuel which we all know the quality.

That being said, I recently poured in a bottle of injector cleaner into my 20,000 KM 320d. There's no noticeable difference in FC and responsiveness. Maybe it's still new.

hi Guy

Im from Brunei and just bought a used e46 320d 2002 model last sept. I know this topic mostly for E90 series, just want to share my experience with this car and to be honest Im impress with the power and fuel consumption with this car. My average fuel consumption now is 5.0L/100km with speed around 100 - 140kmh.

Yeah don't do it at 40,000km and 60,000km as well. No difference in FC and responsiveness. This includes cleaning it using jettronic
